Cowboy books...I’ve had shops refuse to sell me any more over the years as they’re hard to get.
Also John Wayne and Elvis memorabilia

NewAndImprovedNorks · 23/05/2019 00:12

I bloody LOVE mumsnet!

nannytothequeen · 23/05/2019 00:18

Nativity scenes. I get them out at Christmas. Used to collect snow globes. I have only a few of the prettiest now.

Dragonlight · 23/05/2019 00:23

Enid Blyton books, the old copies. I have far too many but I love them.

KissUntilTheyDieOfRabies · 23/05/2019 00:30

Those pennies you pay a pound to get squished with the name of where you are, on them. You already own the penny but you pay a quid for the privilege of having it squished.

Bouledeneige · 23/05/2019 00:33

My family appear to have decided I am collecting Orla Kiely stuff so I have a lot of it in my kitchen, washbags and make up bags. I do like it but don't feel the need for any more!

I collect things from my travels - they often end up being animals or other interesting folk art items. I got a beaded skull in Mexico, a leather ugly dog from Sweden, carved and painted birds from Kenya, a buddha head from Cambodia and three white ceramic little people from Japan.

babyno5 you must get a cello then a double bass yippeeeee! This is all I need to hear! 🎻🎼. Would you fancy playing again?

Hope the photo attached (3rd try already) it shows less than 1/5 of the violins I now own and my 1st mandolin. You MUST ignore the 1998 decor.

@IncyWincyGrownUp definitely encourage him to collect as almost always a good investment if his interest in them declines.

Maybe I should think about photographing all my instruments, well over 100 in total, no idea jusr how many though.

I started collecting when I had to stop playing. The plan was to restore them and resell but that plan backfired! I only sold about 10 because I had put so much work into restoring I couldn't see them disappear!

DSHathaway I know a Kevin with a full-face tattoo. Looks a bit scary but absolutely lovely. He’d make a great addition to your collection I think!

AlunWynsKnee · 23/05/2019 00:37

Dead people. I'm the family historian. I'm into tens of thousands. It's like a never ending jigsaw puzzle. Or at least it is with some bits of the family who stuck to one geographical area for centuries.

AbstractConfusion · 23/05/2019 00:40

@Dragonlight I have about 20 Enid Blyton books. I don't want them but I don't know anyone who may like them. If I have titles you haven't got I'd be happy to donate to your collection.

cheesenpickles · 23/05/2019 00:40

@Bouledeneige we've got things like that. A carved ostrich egg from South Africa, a soap stone (is that a thing) statue of a couple embracing also from SA, some traditional Mexican throw, numerous sugar skulls, porcelain swallows from Portugal, a 1920s glass French Bulldog from a flea market in New York. Really random odds and ends Grin

MummyParanoia101 · 23/05/2019 00:41

Novelty Teapots! Including Emma Bridgewater!

AbstractConfusion · 23/05/2019 00:42

@babyno5 pleased you liked the photo. Its making me want to get up and catalogue them all!

Boulezvous · 23/05/2019 00:46

Cheeseand pickles - yes it sounds like we enjoy the same things. My kids laugh about sone of the things I bring back - particularly the animals.

I love them but realise I was always a bit snobby about my parents touristy nick backs. Mine aren't the same in the sense they don't have the names of the places I picked them up in but I guess they are touristy items!

cheesenpickles · 23/05/2019 00:57

@Boulezvous I know what you mean. My dh has a tradition of finding the most hideous (and I mean HIDEOUS) item to bring home to his mum to see if she displays it. She always does. My face was the chicken made from nuts and bolts he got in Bulgaria. You could see her desperately covering her horror as she said thank you and put it on her mantle. Grin

cheesenpickles · 23/05/2019 00:57

Dinosaur things Smile

Boulezvous · 23/05/2019 01:10

Love it. My Mum has terrible taste in gifts (bless her) plastic tat from the market, that they were so bad they were good!

One Christmas I didn't know what to get my Mum and my sister (who also has horrendous taste) so I bought them the nastiest items I could see in the John Lewis gift department. They loved them.

cheesenpickles · 23/05/2019 01:12

@Boulezvous that's amazing. My bil does that... but in reverse... I've had wine glasses with my name bedazzled on and it and all sorts. Him and his wife are also big fans of things like clocks with room for pictures and quotes like "our happy family" Envy

cheesenpickles · 23/05/2019 01:13

They're always thoughtful but my god SO not our taste. I accidentally broke our wedding present from them and my dh thought I did it on purpose (I didn't but maybe subconsciously!)

Dragonlight · 23/05/2019 01:43

Abstract that's so incredibly kind of you, thank you. I am not in the UK though so fear postage costs may be too much.

I do love your collection though, it is indeed a thing of beauty!

Mum2OneTeen · 23/05/2019 02:35

Constantly collecting:

Art Supplies
Silversmith Tools
Jewellery making supplies
Book Making Materials
Paper

...and so on!

*all with good intentions not carried out

HennyPennyHorror · 23/05/2019 03:16

Vintage fabric. I have tonnes and I never use it for anything...I just fold it up and put it away in a chest of drawers which is specially for the collection.

I take it out regularly to look at and admire. Half of my wardrobe is full of vintage clothing...dresses mainly, which I would never wear....too outrageous or small or in some cases....almost antique...I just like them Can't sell them as I adore them.

The weirdest one is a vintage clown costume. I love it and so does my elder DD....my younger DD finds it terrifying.

HintOfRaspberry · 23/05/2019 04:18

Pint glasses. We have loads of different branded ones and fancy ones... some of them are "souvenirs" from pubs we visit Blush
