And if so, how will you vote?
I want to vote tactically against the Brexit Party so I am thinking LibDems. But knowing mn and it’s very politically engaged (not to mention intelligent) posters, I thought I would put this out there Wink

I may have to go SNP at the last minute though...

MaudesMum · 20/05/2019 16:33

Green. I'm in the SW where Molly Scott Cato has proved an excellent MEP, and also appears to be talking sense whenever she was interviewed about climate change.

user1480880826 · 20/05/2019 16:36

Yes, I’ll be voting Lib Dem.

This is the website that recommends who to vote for based on where you live:

Remainvoter.com

However, if everyone votes tactically based on some parties already having “safe seats” then those safe seats won’t be so safe. According to this site I should vote change but Lib Dem’s are a far more credible option in my opinion. I can’t take Change very seriously I’m afraid.

ControversialFerret · 20/05/2019 16:56

Yes, I like the concept of Change UK but there doesn't seem to be anything concrete with them at the moment.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 20/05/2019 17:01

Yes. Had to hold my nose and vote Lib Dem.

Posted my vote today so no chance of changing it now.

Tiscold · 20/05/2019 17:08

Lib dem for me.

Couldn't vote for change, it seems to be just be in total chaos at the moment with their candidates in scotland saying don't vote for me and i don't think I've seen any solid policy ideas

tisonlymeagain · 20/05/2019 17:08

Checked out the link posted earlier and it recommends Green. The candidate clearly believes we should remain in the EU and so for the first time ever I will be voting Green.

FourEyesGood · 20/05/2019 17:50

Green (card-carrying member).

BrillyPribble · 20/05/2019 17:55

Echoing a PP, this is a proportional representation vote. Each region (I'm in the south west) has an allocated number of seats depending on population, eg we have 6. The parties will be allocated a number of seats depending on the proportion of the voters who vote for them. They will be allocated to candidates from that party in a specified order. So eg, in our area If change.uk get 50% of the vote, they get 3 seats and they are allocated to their first three candidates (Rachel Johnson, Jim Godfrey and Oli Middleton apparently).
So it's not so much of a problem the remain vote being split this time as it would be in a general election as we should still end up with remain representation

Nottheboreworms · 20/05/2019 18:10

Does anyone know anything about Change UK's stance on sex based rights? I can't find anything on their website.

I don’t but they may not have a manifesto passed simply remaining in the EU? The Brexit party hasn’t got one.

Thanks Fink. Why does NI have STV and everywhere else just one vote?

Alaimo · 20/05/2019 19:02

Probably Greens, although I do like Alyn Smith (current SNP MEP) and SNP is getting better on climate change.

TheGoogleMum · 20/05/2019 19:10

Planning to vote for green :)

Fink · 20/05/2019 19:11

NeverPutAWetFootInABirkenstock I don't know why, but the RoI also uses STV, so the whole island of Ireland has one system and Great Britain has another one. I'm not well up enough on the history of it to know why.

emotionalaffair · 20/05/2019 19:16

In Scotland and Voting Lib Dem. Could never bring myself to vote SNP as every vote is counted as a vote for independence.

holdupthere · 20/05/2019 19:17

I'm in wales and the site recommends LibDems as Plaid already has one safe seat?

Biber · 20/05/2019 19:24

Of course I'm voting! We must all vote. Apart from any sort of tactical voting it is getting the number of voters up that counts. www.remainvoter.com/ recommends Green as needing the smallest shift in numbers to gain another seat in my area.

tinytemper66 · 20/05/2019 19:32

I am and I don't know who to vote for to be honest. Not Tory, UKiP or the like but torn between Plaid, Lib Dems and Labour.

SoCallMeMaybe · 20/05/2019 19:34

Lib Dem.

I will never vote for the SNP. Completely agree that it’s a vote for an independence referendum and they can swivel for it

everythingisginandroses · 20/05/2019 19:39

Yes, Labour.

Sculpin · 20/05/2019 19:54

Thank you for the link to the website on the first page - I've just shared it on FB and will be following the tactical voting advice (Green in my area).

www.remainvoter.com

jcyclops · 20/05/2019 20:20

Oakenbeach seems to be one of the few who understand the subtleties of the voting system, the fact that the remainer "How to vote" websites are totally based on (inaccurate) opinion polls and the danger that if the wrong number of remainers follow the advice it will NOT have the desired effect. Let me give you an example.
Yorkshire & Humber elects 6 MEPs. These are elected using the D'Hondt method from party lists. If the result is Brexit 40%, Labour 35% and Liberal 25% then Brexit will have 3 MEPs, Labour 2 and Liberal 1. If a few Labour voters switch to Liberal so the result is Brexit 40%, Labour 32%, Liberal 28% then all three parties will have 2 MEPs each.
With 6 "main" parties and the whole shebang depending on predicted results, following the advice of the websites is pretty pointless.

Mrsorganmorgan · 20/05/2019 20:26

Yes live in Wales voting Plaid Cymru

ethelfleda · 20/05/2019 20:28

It is my understanding though that rather than actual seats, the difference will be with remain having the largest ‘voice’ so that Farage can’t start claiming a huge victory. I posted a link upthread to a YouTube video with Gina Miller explaining it.
