Mobile phone ban in spa

Whilst I fully expect a spa to have a silent mobile phone policy, why is it necessary to have a blanket ban? How is reading an article on a phone different to kindle or book which are allowed? How does me sending a text disturb anyone else?

I have a spa day booked but having just read the ban on phones (according to their info you will be asked to leave if caught with a phone anywhere other than the changing rooms) I am now wanting to cancel. I have a 2 month old baby and a 2 year old and would feel very uncomfortable about being uncontactable all day.

Need a ban in Cinemas and theatres too.

'Op I am going on a spa break tomorrow, with the same rules. I have 3 toddlers at home and one has chicken pox and I am quite worried.”'

Well, presumably you have an excellent carer in charge of your sick toddler and other two toddlers.

Pop back every now and then to view your screen and call to make sure they are ok?

I'm presuming the dc is almost better as your leaving them anyway.

LoafofSellotape · 20/05/2019 08:35

MarthasGinYard yes!

The whole point of a Spa is the ambience and everyone in their phones, even on silent, checking the screen, creates an atmosphere. It takes away from the ’away from it all ‘ relaxation.

In truth OP, I would leave it longer. I wouldn’t have been happy being separated from mine all day at 2 months.

Wait til you can’t wait to get uninterrupted time to yourselfWink

Kindles have cameras

Kindles have cameras

Kindle ereaders do not and they are not banned anywhere that I can think of.

Kindle Fires do, but that's because they are just another tablet, and would be banned, I'm sure. I've never understood why Amazon give two completely different products the same name, tbh.

SoupDragon · 20/05/2019 08:49

Only the Kindle Fire which is really a tablet not an e-reader.

”Need a ban in Cinemas and theatres too.”

Yes. Went to see the Avengers with the DC the other week. There was a woman three rows in front who had brought her kids and obviously wasn’t that interested in the film, so every so often kept checking her phone. She only did it briefly each time and probably thought she was being subtle but it was like bright searchlights suddenly being beamed into the cinema every time she did it, because it’s obviously dark in there, so it was incredibly distracting for everyone behind her.

MrMakersFartyParty · 20/05/2019 08:57

@marthas and @flowery yes mostly better and with my mum, I'm just anxious with the overnight bit I suppose. I will do as you say and pop back every couple of hours just to check and give the number to the spa. Thank you

”Op I am going on a spa break tomorrow, with the same rules. I have 3 toddlers at home and one has chicken pox and I am quite worried.”

If you were that worried you wouldn't be going.
Surely people can sit for a day without their phones. You have people looking after them who can contact you. When you're having your treatments you wouldn't be able to answer anyway

ForalltheSaints · 22/05/2019 18:40

I agree with the cinema and theatre ban, but a bit easier to enforce one in a spa when you change out of your clothes and have a locker.

Heratnumber7 · 22/05/2019 18:49

What do you think us going to happen to your DC?

And as a PP said, what do you think people did in the olden days only about 15-20 years ago before the mobile phone became affordable and pocket sized?

CaptainBrickbeard · 22/05/2019 19:01

My FitBit vibrates if someone calls me and shows texts briefly on the screen. It makes no noise and is waterproof so could be worn in a spa. If you had one of those, OP, you’d know if whoever is looking after the kids is ringing you and hoof it to your locker. No disturbance to anyone else and peace of mind for you.

DianaT1969 · 22/05/2019 19:26

Out of interest OP, how much time do you spend looking at your phone when you are with your DC? You sound incredibly dependent on it. I wonder if many children today grow up feeling of less interest than the screen glued to their parent's hand.
I say this as someone on the sofa, scrolling Mumsnet, whilst watching TV 😂. But I don't have young DC living at home.
