To think that Deliciously Ella is unbearably smug?

Just that really. I used to be a fan. However recent pregnancy updates are incredibly smug and found her podcast awful - constantly interrupting guests. Am I being mean? Not sure why it annoys me so much!

But cozy, she makes bollox health claims and advocates restriction of various totally normal foods. Delia or Jamie don’t.

Are you kidding? I have to schlep bloody miles to my nearest Waitrose now to get lemonade that doesn’t have artificial sweetener in it thanks to Jamie fucking Oliver and his fucking sugar tax. Apart from Coca Cola there is barely a soft drink available that hasn’t switched from natural sugar to IBS triggering, foul-tasting sweetener since it came into effect. All because an ironically overweight fading, self-righteous TV chef wanted to stay relevant so he decided to become a health campaigner.

As for “Deliciously” Ella... I don’t follow her or any instagram influencers on principle, but anyone who is going to give their brand a name like that deserves every accusation of smugness that comes their way. And to everyone going “waaaahhhhh stop being mean to a pregnant woman“... I’m pretty sure her smugness predates her pregnancy. This thread wouldn’t have gone any differently if had been started a year ago, now it just appears she has something else to be smug about.

elsabadogigante · 19/05/2019 22:54

so it’s refreshing she puts morals above money

Haahaahaa! She's a fucking heiress, you know. She never needed the money.

Can't believe people fall for such bollocks and yes, Jamie Oliver, definitely motivated by the common good, the cunt.

@AngeloMysterioso

Well said, @Bluntness100.
These types of threads are foul, they're real people and I can't understand the mentality of starting a thread and everyone piling in for a kick.
She's likely to read this.
I've not heard of her, but these Insta threads pop up regularly having a bash at some one or other.
Not a good look and says a lot about some posters.

pandarific · 20/05/2019 01:11

I can't see what she's done wrong, exactly? Her post is full of optimism and she's an Ina May Gaskin, Queen of Childbirth fan - good for her! Bitter McBitterpants abundant on this thread.

don't listen to the bitter ones about the hypnobirthing if you're reading this Ella, it's fecking great for staying calm and aware of your options even if it goes sideways

augustusglupe · 20/05/2019 01:14

God yes the much hyped almond butter filled balls!! They’re rock hard and have a tiny bit of filling. I make my own now

DarlingCoffee · 20/05/2019 06:27

I think she’s great. Her latest cookbook has some fantastic recipes in it and her instagram always has great ideas to take away. She also always takes the time to write back to people which I really respect. If you’re not a fan, why don’t you unfollow her. No need to be mean.

NicoAndTheNiners · 20/05/2019 06:28

From what, deciding which chef to hire or which dress to wear?

I think that's a really ignorant view about mental health issues/anxiety. People with outwardly fantastic lives can suffer anxiety and depression. Taking the piss that all they have to worry about is what dress to wear is awful.

What about Robin Williams, what did he have to be depressed/anxious about? Counting his money, deciding what car to drive? 🤷‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

ukgift2016 · 20/05/2019 06:35

Sorry but anyone with the name Deliciously Ella, is a smug person. I couldn't bear to read the Instagram post, full of cringe.

Sux2buthen · 20/05/2019 06:43

Wow what an incredibly bitchy lot of posts. And they say women do each other down....

NoSauce · 20/05/2019 06:47

I usually hate the “you’re just jealous” nonsense but I think it fits here, even if it’s subconscious with a lot of you. Why would you be so spiteful and nasty?

NoSauce · 20/05/2019 06:49

elsabadogigante why on earth would she be immune from anxiety and stress? You sound extremely ignorant.

EssentialHummus · 20/05/2019 06:53

I think the entire “clean eating” movement is harmful or at the very least disingenuous, Ella included. I wish her well with pregnancy and birth.

Barbarafromblackpool · 20/05/2019 07:02

Just had a Google of her, I'd heard of her, but think the revoltingly twee name had subconsciously put me off. Top story was about how she made up a diet/fad eating movement, and has made fuck load of cash off of it.
Amazing. Rich white woman becomes richer.

longwayoff · 20/05/2019 07:09

Isn't smugness the point of it? 'look how smug I am, you too can be as smug as I if you follow me carefully. Just let me guide you . . .'

ReadWriteDraw · 20/05/2019 07:09

I don’t think it’s ok to be unkind about somebody you don’t know. As I said before, I like Ella, she seems nice. And she’s built a great business - she probably employs quite a lot a people and contributes very nicely to the economy. All great things.

My post about hypnobirthing was simply from a please don’t assume it’s going to make your birth a lovely happy and safe occasion because that is down to luck. I’ve been there - DD1 I did lots of prenatal yoga and had a simple straightforward healthy birth where I felt like superwoman. DD2 was a near disaster. Birth can be a dangerous business and a safe delivery is luck and a being lucky enough to have a good midwife/doctor/healthcare.

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 20/05/2019 07:13

she refused to work with the charity for her medical condition, and spouted off some quite dangerous stuff about how she "cured" the condition with healthy eating (she's since backtracked on that I believe). But her "inspirational" story consisted of "I ate rubbish, dad came home one day and took me to the top private consultant in the country for this condition that I didn't know what it was, but still found the right guy, I started eating properly and now I'm totally better", when the rest of us battle with not knowing what's wrong, trying to get doctors to listen, trying to get referrals to the right doctors, and taking on average 10 years to get a diagnosis.

Not a fan in this household, sorry

SallyWD · 20/05/2019 07:17

I think her food is delicious and I always feel fantastic after one of her meals. She doesn't tell people what to eat or that they should follow her diet, she simply encourages people to eat more veg. She's worked with nutritionusts on many of her recipes and I find them very healthy.

ArgyMargy · 20/05/2019 07:18

@AngeloMysterioso so much anger! You don't have to drink soft drinks you know. Water from the tap is quite safe.

Agree there is too much venom on this thread. Ella (whoever she is) is not the first woman to share her pregnancy experience/thoughts with everyone. If you're not interested then just ignore her...

Barbarafromblackpool · 20/05/2019 07:18

Is it unkind though? To have an opinion on a public figure and discuss it in a public forum? Calling someone smug is hardly tearing them down.

longwayoff · 20/05/2019 07:32

Agree with Barbara. If you make your life public, draw income from it and seek to influence others then criticism, obviously, comes with it.. As it should.

ApricotExpat · 20/05/2019 07:35

Wow, this is so mean. I think Ella is completely fabulous.

Just because her family has money doesn't mean she has access to it. She and her husband have built a great brand, aiming to get people to eat more vegetables. It's stressful running a business, employing people, turnover, paying wages etc.

Most people before they have their first baby have their ideal birth plan. For some it happens and for some it doesn't! But you don't have to be mean about her aspirations!

And no - I'm not Ella! And I'm not 13/14 year old girl with an ED as another post wrote. I'm 45, plant based munching generally and enthusiastic about un processed healthier eating for my family.

UnicornRainbowsRain · 20/05/2019 07:37

First time I've heard of her but having a quick look - she doesn't seem any different to any of the rest of the lifestyle shit on Instagram. It's usually fairly privileged people who seem like they are in lala land.

Her pregnancy post sounds like lots of first time Mums, you want to feel like you are in control, that's totally normal- most people make plans to try and control the uncontrollable. After a traumatic birth myself it doesn't make me angry it just makes me worried for her that she'll get her expectations so high that if it doesn't go to plan it will be traumatic. Like I did! I hope she gets the birth she wants though. Only bit that really annoyed me was the stretch marks nonsense, I think you are either prone to them or not, no amount of slathering something organic on you is going to change that. Grin
