I want to put together a playlist for my DD as she has a horrendously difficult time ahead of her (you can search my username to see why) I am hoping it will help her in some way...calm her. Take her mind off things.

After reading The Pianist it was Chopin’s Nocturne in C-sharp minor, but mainly it’s Erik Satie’s Gymnopédie

TimeForDinnerDinnerDinner · 01/04/2020 03:33

Anything by Mozart and J S Bach.
All Chopin and Elgar.

AlliKaneSon · 01/04/2020 03:48

Either the Prelude and Liebestod from Tristan and Isolde, by Wagner, Alpinesymphony by Richard Strauss or Fantasia on a theme of Tallis, by Vaughan Williams.

@Myworstnightmare123
You haven't been anyway, ever since they introduced playlists at radio stations everywhere you get the same 20 tracks day in and out. It makes it very hard to be exposed to different (& newer) works.

I just love:
1.Ca'azapa - Berta Rojas

  1. Alleluia and Fugue Op 40b
  2. Stabat Mater - Movement 2
  3. Danzas De Panama - William Grant Still

Love the thread OP !

Thank you for the recommendations

JoyceDivision · 01/04/2020 07:44

Not a huge piece, but Myrtle by Debbie Wiseman is a lovely piece. Just don't get the Alan Titchmarsh version!

Sertchgi123 · 01/04/2020 07:52

Shostakovich 2nd piano concerto, especially the second movement, it’s divine!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 01/04/2020 08:10

One of them anyway,
The Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana, by Pietro Mascagni

Can I just say thanks for starting this thread @Myworstnightmare123 and thanks to everyone who has made recommendations.

I start chemotherapy next week after a whirlwind 10 days since diagnosis and I'm shitting myself. I'm making a playlist based on this thread

I haven't read the full thread so I may be repeating as I am not a classic fan but I absolutely love holst the planets. It brings a chill to my spine and makes my hair stand on end.

steppemum · 02/04/2020 10:48

Sorry, I haven't read the thread, but I just wanted to say I love Elgar's Cello Concerto, very emotional moving piece I think.
