I want to put together a playlist for my DD as she has a horrendously difficult time ahead of her (you can search my username to see why) I am hoping it will help her in some way...calm her. Take her mind off things.

HeronLanyon · 29/05/2019 20:01

Or perhaps gregg’s cheese rallentando ?? Grin or was it grieg’s New Zealand cousin ?

Pipandmum · 29/05/2019 20:08

Sentimental Walk by Vladimir Cosma. Gymnopodie No9 by Eric Satie. Both so heartbreakingly beautiful. I used the latter in my wedding and again at my husband’s funeral.

(the whole opera is not bad at all either, but a bit long and slow at times)

Just booked a ticket to see ludovico einaudi-very excited after reading these!

Walkingthedog46 · 11/08/2019 22:32

Gabriel’s oboe is simply beautiful

Mytupenceworth · 11/08/2019 22:41

Haven't read the full thread so I'm not sure if vivaldi The four seasons have already been mentioned. I've loved it for over 20 years and it encompasses such a wide variety of emotions and feelings. Imo it's a piece that either speaks to you or doesn't. Hth

Recently heard a snippet of The Sea Interludes, from Benjamin Britten’s Peter Grimes. It really does make you feel the sea! Haven't hear the whole thing, but I found it very relaxing/soothing.

Don't know if this 'counts' as classical, but I always feel better listening to Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue.

glittertissues · 11/08/2019 23:37

Shameless placemark

ChopinIn10Minuets · 11/08/2019 23:57

Can I add some Schubert? His Unfinished (number 8) is one of my favourites. If you're after something a bit more vigorous and uplifting, then his 9th is pretty good as well.

I would also add some film/TV music: the theme to Band of Brothers by Michael Kamen always does it for me, and also the music to the Lord of the Rings films.

altogirl · 12/08/2019 00:17

Mozart's "Ave Verum."

Keepthebloodynoisedown · 12/08/2019 00:23

Probably already been mentioned, but Debussy- the girl with the flaxen hair is a favourite of mine and very calming

Old - 2nd movement of Beethoven's Emporer Concerto. Huge source of comfort in difficult times. Utterly serene
New - Bluebird by Alexis Ffrench. Divine, calm yet whimsical. Please have a listen

La Gazza Ladra by Rossini is stirring and beautiful.

NomDeQwerty · 12/08/2019 01:08

The Overture to The Marriage of Figaro conducted by Yehudi Menhuin is life affirming

For me, the most beautiful piece I've ever heard is Delibes Opera.

Erik Satie's "Trois Gymnopedies" would be my top choice, with the slow movement from the Mozart clarinet quintet in A coming close second, and Rodrigo's Concierto d'Aranjuez in 3rd place.

LakieLady · 31/03/2020 17:15

‘Soave sia il vento’ - from Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte is beautiful and the one piece of music I’d save from the waves!

I was lucky enough to hear Cosi at Glyndebourne a few years ago, and this aria made me cry. It is heart-stoppingly beautiful.

LadyofMisrule · 31/03/2020 17:17

Debussy’s Clair De Lune

Hennypenny95 · 31/03/2020 17:25

Chopin's Ballads Numbers 1 and 4
Adagio from Beethoven's Emperor Concerto
Claire De Lune - Debussy
Gymnopedie no 1. Satie

Hope your DD finds comfort in our suggestions.

Ashkovan farewell.

MitziK · 31/03/2020 17:30

Faure's Requiem.

Especially the Sanctus and In Paradisum, but to appreciate it fully, listen to the whole thing. It's sad, yet ultimately uplifting.

And Luis de Victoria's Requiem. Same principle, centuries before.
