I want to put together a playlist for my DD as she has a horrendously difficult time ahead of her (you can search my username to see why) I am hoping it will help her in some way...calm her. Take her mind off things.

I love Debussy's Clair de Lune, Barber's Adagio for Strings, Pachelbel's Canon, Beethoven's Symphony No 6, Strauss' Blue Danube and there's a piece of music in The Truman Show called Father Kolbe's Preaching which is just beautiful albeit not technically classical.

JulesJules · 31/03/2020 18:14

Bach cello and Debussy Clair de lune.

MitziK · 31/03/2020 18:43

@ScribblyGum and @BadMoon, don't suppose you'd appreciate what dissenting tenors my section call it in my choir.

Whales in the Onions.

And O Magnum Mysterium is 'The Lost Choc Ice'.

We have a Sad Disaster Squid Section instead of Libera Me. (Calmitatus et miserie).

In Bach's Johannespassion, we've got, amongst others, the Fecking Song and 'Wo-Help Not This One Again'.

VeryQuaintIrene · 31/03/2020 18:43

Thomas Tallis - Spem in Alium (40 parts!!)

Buttybach · 31/03/2020 18:47

I love 'je te veux' by Satie. Great thread!

Standrewsschool · 31/03/2020 19:11

Not usually a classical music listener.

However, had classic fm on the other day and they played :

Seven Wonders - Stewart Mitchell.

Recommended!

RandomLondoner · 31/03/2020 19:17

Another vote for Albinoni Adagio in G Minor

Good music for a funeral! (A long funeral, it might be a bit long for the shortest slot at a crematorium.)

There's also a good story behind it, it's not really by Albinoni.

FredaFrogspawn · 31/03/2020 19:19

Sublime Oboe

BadMoon · 31/03/2020 19:20

ScribblyGum - it always reminds me of my dad - we saw it performed in Ely Cathedral and I remember turning to look at him to see he had tears pouring down his cheeks. It was played at his funeral.

haverhill · 31/03/2020 19:21

Vaughan Williams’ Lark Ascending and variations on Tallis.

Holst, Planet Suite - Jupiter particularly. It’s so uplifting.

BadMoon · 31/03/2020 19:22

MitziK - Whales in the Onions? Noooooo...
