I want to put together a playlist for my DD as she has a horrendously difficult time ahead of her (you can search my username to see why) I am hoping it will help her in some way...calm her. Take her mind off things.

Fauré's Elegie in C minor

Also Vaughan Williams' Fantasia as numerous posters have already mentioned.

Fudgecakes · 20/05/2019 23:09

I've not read full thread so sorry if already suggested.. I adore Clair da Lune by Debussy...it's on the Twilight album. Played on R2 Ken Bruce this morning... picked by Saara Larsson as one of her Tracks of my Years....so beautiful and so relaxing. Loved it ever since dd was a baby... I had a lovely CD back then which I used to play when breast feeding called Classic FM for Babies. Also love Arrival of the Queen of Sheba...I walked down the aisle to that one. It's quite up tempo though...very jolly and stirring!

Redbedheadd, thank you so much for making the playlist, I found it and have followed. It's just fantastic to all these suggestions compiled together.

VoteJadot · 21/05/2019 09:10

Can someone link to redbedheadd's playlist? It's not coming up in searches for me. Thanks.

Just place marking

Figmentofmyimagination · 22/05/2019 18:28

There is a lovely choral setting of Nimrod (Elgar) - Lux. Aeterna - which I really recommend - www.amazon.co.uk/Aeterna-Choral-Setting-Nimrod-Variations/dp/B002DHJY6Y?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

Not sure whether this is the best recording (I see that voces 8 did something unaccompanied to mark the centenary of the armistice which is probably amazing - www.classicfm.com/composers/elgar/news/voces8-nimrod/).

Va pensiero / Nabucco/Verdi

RollaCola84 · 22/05/2019 18:58

Pachebel's canon, the soaring strings section is the most beautiful thing I've ever heard. I chose the music for my grandmother's funeral and chose it, it was a beautiful part of the service but it now has a tendency to reduce me to tears.

MogThoughtDarkThoughts · 22/05/2019 19:08

Mendelssohn string octet - the most joyous piece of music that I know.

floraloctopus · 24/05/2019 20:33

This song:

really, truly a beautiful piece. I've ordered the CD.

Corneliawildthing · 25/05/2019 08:20

Grin at Pachelbel's Canon - a cello player's nightmare!

Poshjock · 25/05/2019 14:57

I meant to add one earlier but forgot. Who remembers the theme from the Onedin Line? To be honest I was so young it’s the only thing I remember about it! Khachaturian’s Spartacus.

greenelephantscarf · 25/05/2019 19:41

pictures of an exhibition. both the orchestra and the piano versions are lovely,

bbc proms coming up. just go to one of the concerts if you can. it's cheap (ish) in some seats and the experience is awesome.
they are also broadcast live on radio 3

HeronLanyon · 27/05/2019 19:29

poshjock saw this at royal opera house (think it was summer Russian company) as that theme started there was a ripple through the house but only from a certain age and above obvs.

RoseQuartz222 · 28/05/2019 00:13

sicilliene opus 78 by faure

OutOntheTilez · 28/05/2019 00:17

My favorites are “Daphnis et Chloé Suite No. 2, Part 1, Lever du jour” and “Pavan for a Dead Princess,” both by Maurice Ravel.

More recent beautiful compositions are the theme songs to the movies "Schindler's List" and "A River Runs Through It.”
