I want to put together a playlist for my DD as she has a horrendously difficult time ahead of her (you can search my username to see why) I am hoping it will help her in some way...calm her. Take her mind off things.

I love Grieg's Morning from the PG Suite.
And the big aria from Mme Butterfly if that counts?

Usuallyinthemiddle · 19/05/2019 18:53

Greig?

Pirandello24 · 19/05/2019 18:53

I can really recommend the whole of the "if Beale Street could talk" soundtrack. So so beautiful and incredibly relaxing.

KingaRoo · 19/05/2019 18:57

Luduvico Einaudi's album called Islands. Beautiful piano music and I find it very comforting and relaxing. Think warm summer evening with a glass of wine feeling Smile

Ronsters · 19/05/2019 18:58

Grieg, Morning. I first heard it at school and have loved it ever since.

RowenaCoxwell · 19/05/2019 18:59

My current favourites are Finlandia and Fingal’s Cave, both about 9 minutes long so not hugely long but long enough to lose yourself in for a while. Hope you find something that helps your DD.

I love Vaughn Williams, The Lark Ascending. Lots of beautiful Debussy also.

KingaRoo · 19/05/2019 18:59

Also Beethoven's moonlight sonata.

mimibunz · 19/05/2019 19:00

Beethoven sonata Pathetique (No 8)

Driftingthoughlife · 19/05/2019 19:00

Pachabel cannon but it has to be the right version

MsCupcake · 19/05/2019 19:00

The Pearl Fishers Duet by Bizet
Nimrod by Elgar
Clarinet Concerto in A Major by Mozart

IJustLostTheGame · 19/05/2019 19:01

The finale to the firebird by Stravinsky.
It's pure beauty

Daffodil2018 · 19/05/2019 19:01

The Girl with the Flaxen Hair by Debussy
Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis by Vaughan Williams
Miserere Allegri by Gregorio

MockerstheFeManist · 19/05/2019 19:01

The Allegri Miserere

Then pretty much anything else by the Tallis Scholars: Tallis, Byrd, Palestrini, Taverner etc.

MrsSpenserGregson · 19/05/2019 19:01

Pachelbel's Canon definitely

DpWm · 19/05/2019 19:01

I find baroque harpsichord really dramatic and invigorating
(I know you've asked for classical) but I'd really recommend Rammeau harpsichord work.

Myworstnightmare123 · 19/05/2019 19:02

@King yes.....that is beautiful. My DD saw him in London last year. She said it was amazing.

I am busy checking these out. Thank you

Rachmaninoff Concerto 2.

Catquest1 · 19/05/2019 19:03

I love some the suggestions above (Tasmin Little's version of Lark ascending is wonderful ).

I'd add the Pastoral Symphony by Beethoven and recently ive been playing a Summer Suite by Eric Coates which is lovely (and a new one for me!)

PuppyMonkey · 19/05/2019 19:03

I'm seconding The Lark Ascending and also adding Barber's Adagio for String.

RustyBear · 19/05/2019 19:03

The Benedictus from Karl Jenkins' The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 19/05/2019 19:03

Figlio perduto

Bigfanofcheese · 19/05/2019 19:04

If I need to either pick myself up or celebrate doing something hard, it's always Beethoven's 9th

JassyRadlett · 19/05/2019 19:05

The second movement of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No 5 has brought me calm and strength in difficult times.

What a lovely idea OP.

Shinyletsbebadguys · 19/05/2019 19:07

Sibelius Valse triste is wonderful for relaxing even if the story behind it is a little dark so I wouldn't tell her it
