I want to put together a playlist for my DD as she has a horrendously difficult time ahead of her (you can search my username to see why) I am hoping it will help her in some way...calm her. Take her mind off things.

SerenDippitty · 19/05/2019 19:49

The Moldau by Smetana

redbedheadd · 19/05/2019 19:50

There's a Vaughn Williams of Greensleaves that I absolutely love. It's so beautiful

thegreylady · 19/05/2019 19:50

Morning is top of my list I also love Mozart clarinet quintet and Brahms violin concerto.
Morning is beautiful. I used it when I first headed an assembly in my first teaching job and followed by the hymn ‘Morning has Broken’.

redbedheadd · 19/05/2019 19:51

Someone should put these on a Spotify Playlist and share the link !! If I'm up in the night feeding DS I'll do my best to if anyone is interested?

GorkyMcPorky · 19/05/2019 19:53

There's a slow movement from one of Mozart's symphonies (39, 40 or 41?!). It's gorgeously relaxing, all ascending strings and descending woodwind.

Areyoufree · 19/05/2019 19:53

I've always loved Mozart's 40th Symphony, and Albinoni's Adagio in G minor.

Gth1234 · 19/05/2019 19:54

slow stuff - these 3

Pachelbel;s Canon
AlbinonI's Adagio
Barber's Adagio

Loladisco · 19/05/2019 19:54

Einaudi is absolute favourite here.

Yiruma - river flows in you, may be, reminiscent, spring time

Joe Hisaishi - Summer

zen1 · 19/05/2019 19:54

Tschaikovsky Piano Concerto no 1

GorkyMcPorky · 19/05/2019 19:56

The Pearl Fishers' Duet is very personal to me. Beautiful.

Fortheloveofscience · 19/05/2019 19:56

Sorry, keep on thinking of others.

Faure’s requiem, pie jesu is my favorite but also the Agnus Dei, and libera me if I’m in a bit of a darker mood.

VickyEadie · 19/05/2019 19:56

Fur Elise.

FreiasBathtub · 19/05/2019 19:56

Preludes to Tannhauser and Lohengrin by Wagner.
Britten 4 Sea Interludes
Sibelius violin concerto
Second the recommendation upthread for the last movement of the Firebird suite
Prokoviev Romeo and Juliet suite, especially Balcony Scene and Death of Tybalt
Tchaikowsky White Swan Pas de Deux from Swan Lake

All the best to your DD OP

Any of the Mozart piano concertos.
Schubert string quartets or either of his piano trios.
Ravel piano sonatine/ Tombeau de Couperin/ string quartet/ mother goose suite/ Daphnis and Chloe. In fact almost anything by Ravel except for Bolero.
Bach double violin concerto.
I think that maybe smaller scale/ chamber music is more intimate and calming?

FreiasBathtub · 19/05/2019 19:57

Sorry! There were paragraphs when I typed it!

Gth1234 · 19/05/2019 19:59

I think the 23rd Psalm Crimond melody is one of the nicest hymns. (Vicar of Dibley tune)

DieCryHate · 19/05/2019 20:01

@redbedheadd fantastic idea!

SecretNutellaFix · 19/05/2019 20:01

Someone else has already suggested Benedictus from The Armed Man by Karl Jenkins which is stunningly beautiful.
Look on youtube for a version of The Mountains of Mourne by a pianist called Phil Coulter- beautiful arrangement of folk music. Also by Phil Coulter and James Galway, the Ashokan Farewell. Although not strictly classical, it's soul stirring.
I also love Tartini's Devil's Trill sonata, as played by Itzhak Perlman- there's something about that version that gets me every time.
If she wants some vocal music- Ombra mai Fu, as sung by Andreas Scholl, is lovely. As is Mozart's Exultate Jubilate and Laudate Dominum.

amysaurus87 · 19/05/2019 20:01

Not typically classical but Northern Lights by Ola Gjeilo is beautiful

WhiteVixen · 19/05/2019 20:02

I’ve not listened to masses of classical music, although I do like it. Probably not the most original but I’ve always loved Debussey’s Claire de Lune.
