My family think I must have shares in Sudocrem because i recommend it for almost any ailment 😁😁

Latest proof: friction burn from dog lead walking accident (don’t ask)... medics recommended keep clean, loose dressing, leave it to heal naturally.. 1 week later, no better.

3 days of Sudocrem - virtually fixed, almost expect new foot to grow shortly !

who will join me in the Ode to Sudocrem - or even recommend new potions with magical powers that I can add to my list?

When I was a student nurse I was asked to pop over to the hospital pharmacy to collect a tub of Sudocrem. I didn't know what it was, so wrote on my piece of paper 'Pseudocream', thinking it must be some sort of cream like substance.

Little did I know its wondrous healing abilities and pleasant smell. The NHS no longer prescribes it for us to use within the care homes. We have soulless stuff now which lacks character and doesn't inspire confidence due to its insipid appearance and lack of clinical smell.

I once applied too much to my young son's sore willy and had to shamefacedly go to see the nurse practitioner to get it washed off - I was too frightened to - and to have something more appropriate prescribed.

Healed my csection scar after 12 weeks of soreness

flowergrrl77 · 19/05/2019 18:41

@MadisonAvenue I was first sold it when living in Vienna 15/16 years ago, the pharmacists there don’t let you ask for what you want. You have to describe symptoms and then they tell you what you need!

Like if you wanted paracetamol, you’d talk about having a fever maybe.

I went in with my toddler who had been blowing his nose so much it was cracked and bleeding, it was her that sold it for that, making sure I knew it was good for nipples too!

I had NO IDEA that it was actually a nappy cream till I moved home and saw it with English packaging! Grin

I have also used it for tattoo’s!

listsandbudgets · 19/05/2019 18:45

More love for it here. I'd never heard of it until met DP but he swears by it and there's pots in random cupboards all over the house. I am not even sure how many we have - 5 I think in various sizes and states...

that reminds me I've got a spot on my chin and a small cut on my finger :)

YoThePussy · 19/05/2019 18:46

Sudocrem is the dog’s wotsits, great stuff. My other favourite is Savlon cream. The smell takes me straight back to childhood and having it smeared on grazed knees.

nuxe1984 · 19/05/2019 18:46

Discovered Sudocrem when my children were babies (they're now in their early 30s) - still use it. Although have to admit I also favour Germolene.

endofthelinefinally · 19/05/2019 18:47

It is wonderful for when your skin gets all sore around your nose when you have a streaming cold.

It won't come off with soap and water, but you can wipe it off gently with a little bit of coconut oil and a soft tissue or cloth. It is intended as a barrier cream so water won't work.

My youngest is 21 and I still keep a tub in the bathroom.

Edda09 · 19/05/2019 18:55

Lansinoh is magic too! Heals sores and cuts practically overnight!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 19/05/2019 19:06

It's bloody brilliant stuff, it really is!

HypatiaCade · 19/05/2019 19:06

I know 'Sudocreme' isn't available in Australia, but there are loads of zinc oxide products available, for sun screen, skin care etc. What do you think the white stripes were on the faces of cricketers back in the day??? (For those of you who were around more than a few decades ago!!) They then became colourful stripes that supporters wore in the colour of their team.

TheFormidableMrsC · 19/05/2019 19:08

I LOVE SUDOCREM! I recommend it everywhere, to everyone. It is totally magical. Makes a fantastic face mask. I even used it when I had a dodgy toenail and it cleared that up too. Marvellous stuff!

It is a magical and amazing thing to have in any household!! My dog had the most awful rash on her and blistered ears, no idea how it occurred. Smothered in Sudocrem, 2 days later completely cured, all gone and no scarring. Some of you might say that was irresponsible but over a Bank Holiday, short of funds and emergency vet access expensive it was a light bulb moment and my dog was fine, and not in pain.

Justgorgeous · 19/05/2019 19:15

Good for sun burn too.

Stravapalava · 19/05/2019 19:20

I'm allergic to Sudocrem, but my magic potion is Savlon. I love the stuff and the smell of it . My best tip is to put on on any spots you feel brewing under the skin and it makes them go away and not appear!

KipperTheFrog · 19/05/2019 19:24

First discovered sudocrem when it was recommended by the vet for a lick sore on DDog's leg.
Used it for both DD's for nappy rash. Now using it on DD2's chicken pox.

Ticketybootoo · 19/05/2019 19:25

I am an ex nurse who used it 30 years ago and still use it now - completely agree with you OP . I think for the price it’s amazing .

Ilovemylabrador · 19/05/2019 19:31

Sudocream, Savlon, Metanium, Vaseline & Metanium -best products ever! They go in the suitcase and car for emergencies before water and suncream! Antisan is also darn amazing too!

MashedSpud · 19/05/2019 19:32

It’s also great for preventing rowers bum and other exercises that might cause skin friction.

Rosieposy4 · 19/05/2019 19:33

Disappointingly my horse is allergic to it, but it’s great for mud fever on most.

Hollyhobbi · 19/05/2019 19:40

Eloise how can you live in Dublin and not have tried the auld Sudo? When I worked as a nurse years ago it was always used on the ward (largest teaching hospital in Ireland). You also used to get a mini pot of it with your baby pack in the hospital too. My mother always used it and now me and my two girls use it especially for spots and rashes!

DeadDoorpost · 19/05/2019 19:48

Savlon worked better than sudocreme on DS's sore bum.

I like Zambuk for broken skin especially on my face. Just remember to make sure your skin still isn't green in the morning before you leave for work...

manicmij · 19/05/2019 19:49

I too love it, usually the go to solution. I did though develop a horrible rash over neck, arms and chest. Applied the miracle cream - no result. Tried for a couple of days but eventually landed up at a pharmacy seeking advice. Was told the miracle stuff kept moisture in underneath it and was continually causing the redness and itch. I need sonething to dry the rash up (completely nondescript type rash). Stopped using the miracle stuff and beyond the rash disappeared. Another crop if the rash was suspected sensitivity to lanolin. E45 a renown culprit. Stopped that, now use oat based moisturiser. Still wouldn't be without a tub of the miracle stuff in the house.

Lovely13 · 19/05/2019 19:51

Over on gransnet, someone recommended it for hard skin on feet. I’ve yet to try. Will get some tomorrow.

PantsyMcPantsface · 19/05/2019 19:53

Reminds me I might try it on the cuts on DD2's hands that are being really slow to heal up.

We use it on the dog who gets a grass pollen allergy and licks her paws raw - sudocreme on, socks over the top and it heals up well. Nowt else has bloody worked after £100s at the vets.

FreezerBird · 19/05/2019 19:55

Sudocrem is wonderful and I am a fan.

However when it comes to sorting out sore nose/upper lip skin when you've a streaming cold, bepanthen is where it's at. It has no rival.
