How can a supposedly 'civilised' society pass such a retrograde law?

And other states following suit?

agnurse( What is the purpose of an abortion? It is the death of the unborn baby. That's the whole intent.

No, the whole point is to end the pregnancy and in some cases top save the life of the woman, or to prevent her being forced to give birth to to the child of a rapist.

If a person who is in kidney failure or needs a blood transfusion is made comfortable, they will die. But that's not the intent.

The intent doesn't really matter if they're dead. Why can't they legally compel someone to save their life? Why does the law not compel people to provide blood and organs to newborn babies?

And I'm still dubious about your qualifications, your knowledge of biology is incredibly lacking.

Dottierichardson · 15/05/2019 20:37

Agnurse It's not just us, what you clearly view as "slutty pro-choicers", advocating sex untethered to reproduction, NHS guidelines promote sex as a means of health and well-being -

AngeloMysterioso · 15/05/2019 20:37

If you don't want to be pregnant, all you have to do is wait 9 months. But of course you don't want to do that.

All you have to do is wait 9 months?! Are you for real??

9 months of exhaustion. 9 months of your body constantly changing, feeling uncomfortable, if you’re unlucky enough to have HG, 9 months of constant vomiting, nausea and dehydration.

Then of course there’s the small issue of fucking giving birth at the end of this 9 month “wait”, which comes with its own delightful host of potential complications and dangers.

There’s no way you’re a nurse. No nurse would be that blasé about the effects of pregnancy on a woman’s body.

FermatsTheorem · 15/05/2019 20:40

Even if a woman has several abortions - still her body, her choice.

If all the posters on here who oppose abortion are serious about reducing the number of procedures taking place, the statistics are unarguable:
www.guttmacher.org/fact-sheet/induced-abortion-worldwide

The lowest abortion rates are in countries where abortion is free and legal and contraception is free and legal.

Making abortion illegal only means women die, it doesn't actually reduce the numbers of abortion.

Making abortion illegal and making women pay for contraception sends the rate of illegal abortions through the roof.

AngeloMysterioso · 15/05/2019 20:40

Are you against sex trafficking? How much time and money do you invest supporting victims of sex trafficking? Do you take them into your home? Do you help them to learn skills so they aren't forced into the sex trade?

What on god’s green earth does sex trafficking have to do with being pro-choice?!

SaskiaRembrandt · 15/05/2019 20:42

agnurse Are you against sex trafficking? How much time and money do you invest supporting victims of sex trafficking? Do you take them into your home? Do you help them to learn skills so they aren't forced into the sex trade?

Ha, the irony - as it happens, I spend a considerable amount of time on this issue, not going to out myself but I suspect it's a great deal more than the time than you spend caring for your adopted children.

Now, stop changing the subject, and answer the question I have repeatedly asked.

agnurse · 15/05/2019 20:43

My point is that your example is disingenuous.

Please tell me, did anyone ever die because they did not have sex? Is sex essential for life? Do you have a right to have sex?

If you say yes, you have a right to have sex, then we have a problem. See, if you have a right to have sex, someone has a responsibility to have sex with you. This means that rape is acceptable, because, after all, you have rights, correct?

SaskiaRembrandt · 15/05/2019 20:45

agnurse have you lost a sock? I think it's here -> JQBased

Quintella · 15/05/2019 20:46

Is sex essential for life?

Did you seriously ask that?

AngeloMysterioso · 15/05/2019 20:46

How about we take precautions to not get pregnant in the first place?

There is NO form of contraception that is guaranteed 100% effective.

I can understand abortions and the legit reasons, but having known women who have had several abortions each for the reason of they simply don't want children I do think perhaps prevention and greater responsibility should also be promoted.

Not wanting children is a perfectly valid reason to have an abortion. Deciding not to continue a pregnancy when you know you don’t want a child is the responsible thing to do.

but there needs to be a middle ground and not just I'm going to have a quick abortion in my lunch hour, please just cover my phone until I get back...which has happened...

Nope, sorry but that is absolute bullshit. No abortion procedure is casually over and done with in an hour. You are lying.

Ifeelinclined · 15/05/2019 20:46

The state citizens did not vote for this. This was passed by the state legislature. It is horribly regressive, but I would have voted against it had I been given the chance. Alabama is a poorer area of the US, so this kind of bs legislation is the last thing we need. But to be honest, I'm not surprised one bit that the legislature passed it.

sheettent · 15/05/2019 20:46

@SaskiaRembrandt Grin i was about to say similar. I had a temporary ban from mn a few months ago and don't care for another so will refrain from calling them what's springing to mind. 🤐

Quintella · 15/05/2019 20:47

so your latest thing is if we're not abstaining we're raping?

Okey dokey.

DoomOnTheBroom · 15/05/2019 20:47

Is it the pregnancy you don't want, or is it the baby resulting from the pregnancy that you don't want? An abortion is no picnic and is not necessarily safer than childbirth.

Both. I have enough children and a further pregnancy would likely result in my death.

No one has claimed an abortion is a picnic but it's is not riskier than nine months of pregnancy and childbirth.

Do you have a right to have sex?

I don't have a right to sex however I have a right to enjoyment of sex with a consenting adult partner without fear that this will result in me being forced to carry and bear a child I do not want.

agnurse · 15/05/2019 20:47

If you don't want to have children, why are you engaging in activities that you know will lead to children?

Did dying a virgin ever directly cause someone's death?

SaskiaRembrandt · 15/05/2019 20:48

agnurse nope, I'm not being disingenuous, I have simply asked a very straightforward that you have refused to answer.

No one has said anyone has a right to have sex, once again you are using false analogies in an apparent attempt to change the subject.

Even if you believe that life begins at conception, how can you justify a foetus being given rights that massively exceed those of humans who have been born? As I keep saying, no 'born' person has the right to legally compel another to give up their bodily autonomy in order to sustain or save a life. Why are foetuses different to people who need blood transfusions, or kidney transplants? In fact, to compare what you may consider like with like: why are foetuses different to newborn babies who require blood transfusions or organ transplants? Why does that right end the moment someone is born?

Marvelendgame · 15/05/2019 20:48

agnurse who has said that they have a right to have sex?

What we do have a right to do is live our lives within the law of the land. Sex can be an enjoyable part of our lives, sex is legal between consenting adults.

sheettent · 15/05/2019 20:48

@agnurse Did dying a virgin ever directly cause someone's death?

Not sure. Maybe you can let us know one day. Wink

GarnierBBCream · 15/05/2019 20:48

This isn't about pro-life, it's about punishing women for having sex.

agnurse · 15/05/2019 20:49

Actually, following an abortion you have a 7 times higher risk of suicide. You have a higher risk of breast cancer. (Ironically, pregnancy and breastfeeding lower the risk of breast cancer.) You have a higher risk of developing an incompetent cervix. This can lead to problems carrying a pregnancy in the future.

Abortion is not safer than childbirth.

Quintella · 15/05/2019 20:49

Thank you for that agnurse. If anything you've made me more pro-choice.

Me too! The anti-choice 'reasoning' we've seen today would be laughable if it weren't so sinister.

agnurse · 15/05/2019 20:49

SaskiaRembrandt

I already answered your question.

agnurse · 15/05/2019 20:49

Actually I am married to a man and he is as against abortion as I am.

Quintella · 15/05/2019 20:50

Did dying a virgin ever directly cause someone's death?

It just turns you into a bigot like Ann Widdicombe.

Ginger1982 · 15/05/2019 20:50

Good for him @agnurse. Lucky for him it's actually nothing to do with him or any man.
