Hallelujah! Good riddance to bad rubbish!!

OP posts:
UnderTheSeaWithMe · 15/05/2019 12:25

No loss. Appalling rubbish to be airing in the first place.

Starisnotanumber · 15/05/2019 12:41

I feel sorry for all the people working behind the scenes. The camera crew hair and makeup and runners etc. I know that TV is hard to break into and it's a show that appeared to give a long term paycheck. We all do jobs we dislike for money or to get experience to move onto better things

HarryDaylight · 15/05/2019 12:44

Good riddance. It's a disgrace to broadcasting, with no production values.

Hopefully some of the other "circus" reality shows featuring the more vulnerable members of society will get axed as well.

Valanice1989 · 15/05/2019 12:44

Lifecraft, that's a pretty distasteful comparison.

Lifecraft · 15/05/2019 12:46

"Hopefully this is just the tip of the iceburg for other 'reality' shows to go."

It's easy to get rid of them all. If you look closely at your tv remote, you'll see a button, often red, that has the word OFF written on it. Press that, and you need never see a reality programme again.

This also has the advantage of allowing people who actually enjoy GBBO and the like to carry on enjoying them.

Becca19962014 · 15/05/2019 12:47

So they're trying to blame the GP so they can keep their other company (they own aftercare for all reality tv shows not only those mentioned on this thread) and obviously want to keep that going, which really pisses me off. Why for a minute would a GP think this person who obviously was very convinced from what's been said by their website/care team they could trust the show and aftercare experts was total bullshit and they'd be ripped to pieces and humiliated for entertainment and chucked out the door? Like GPs aren't run off their feet enough.

Someone locally had the misfortune to go on, and thought exactly the same - excellent help and care - as it said all over their websites and sadly despite several of us saying don't made zero difference. "Aftercare" became known in my head as "no we don't fucking care" by those of us who knew him.

Hopefully this will be the end of his other dreadful programmes as well.

Perhaps he can go back to being a slimy salesman like he was before he began being a DJ in Birmingham or better yet go to his local jobcentre, go on the benefits he hated people for claiming and get a job coach who will equally bully him to get off his lazy ass like he did to others..

It was always going to end like this, because there have been so many incidents over the years that were just covered up either by blaming someone else (like blaming GP here) or in the case of the person I knew dismissed as just being an addict so they'd OD anyway.

I wish people wouldn't call him a toad though. I like toads.

AngeloMysterioso · 15/05/2019 12:47

Woohoo!! About bloody time.

Becca19962014 · 15/05/2019 12:50

Or threatening people with legal action - there was a thread on digital spy years ago that they got shut down, which proved our point excellently about the show!

Lifecraft · 15/05/2019 12:51

Lifecraft, that's a pretty distasteful comparison.

You have missed the point, it was meant to be. To illustrate when people say "tv shouldn't make money from programmes about other people's suffering", you have to quantify it.

TV programmes for commercial tv have to make money, or they couldn't stay in business to make other programmes. Suffering makes for good viewing, be it JK or fly on the wall medical programmes.

flameycakes · 15/05/2019 12:53

Bet channel 5 picks it up.

Milicentbystander72 · 15/05/2019 12:56

(like blaming GP here)

I'm not sure if you mean this thread was blaming the GP? I mentioned the GP's 'fitness' letter upthread. I'm not blaming any GP.
I have no idea if it's true. I was reporting info I saw on C5 Jeremy Vine Show yesterday.

DonkeyHohtay · 15/05/2019 12:56

Come on folks, what are you expecting from ITV? Their whole ethos is churning out mass market, low-rent, brainless telly. Love Island, Loose Women, This Morning, Jeremy Kyle, X-Factor - it's all downmarket crap.

They will be making public statements about how awful it all is this week, next week they'll be holding meetings to come up with the next trashy daytime TV show for people who are hard of thinking.

There is very little on the channel worth watching at all. Victoria maybe. And I quite like Vera.

Becca19962014 · 15/05/2019 12:58

milicent no that wasn't what I meant! Sorry I should have been more clear. I'd read in an article before posting about the GP clearing him fit to go on the show. Apologies for not being clear!!

Becca19962014 · 15/05/2019 12:59

I meant the show were blaming the GP. Just to be crystal clear!!

PattyCow · 15/05/2019 12:59

Aibu should go with it.

AlaskanOilBaron · 15/05/2019 13:05

I think it's weird. Has it escaped everyone's attention that modern television is crass?

Seems unmeasured.

Ringdonna · 15/05/2019 13:08

Hopefully Love Island is next

Sparklesocks · 15/05/2019 13:13

It should’ve gone off the air years ago, terrible how they manipulated people for ratings

Acis · 15/05/2019 13:30

I wonder what will happen if a contestant makes a complete hash of their cake on GBBO, like a complete disaster of it, and feels so humiliated by having this aired on national tv, when everyone around them has done so well, that they go home and kill themselves?

On GBBO if someone messes up their baking you're not going to get Prue Leith shouting in their face about what despicable scum they are, with the audience being hyped up to boo and hiss. I'm quite sure everyone (well, maybe not Paul Hollywood) would be lovely to them and really supportive.

Acis · 15/05/2019 13:34

Aibu should go with it.

You have a point, PattyCow. A pile-on on AIBU has distinct echoes of a Kyle audience at times.

Lifecraft · 15/05/2019 13:39

But Paul (laser eyed barn owl) Hollywood can be quite brutal. That might tip them over the edge.

Some on here have said they hope this is the end or reality tv. Or is that just the reality tv they feel is beneath them. Middle class reality tv gets a pass?

Perhaps I'll pitch a new show to CH4, a cross between GBBO the JK Show. You go on, get shouted at and abused, but if you manage to bake a decent cake, you get to swerve the DNA test or get out of paying the upkeep for your child.

funinthesun19 · 15/05/2019 13:45

Good!
It’s a horrible programme that picks on the most vulnerable people and just feeds the country’s hatred towards stereotypes.

All the people who sit there laughing in the audience and are home thinking they are fucking perfect need a reality check. They are horrible people for finding other people’s misfortune oh so hilarious! I bet many of them have a few skeletons in their closets too....

funinthesun19 · 15/05/2019 13:47

*and at home

HelenaDove · 15/05/2019 13:49

I’m very pleased that JK has been axed, should have happened sooner. However, it seems now is a good as time as ever to look at the likes of love island and the suicides of people who’ve taken part in that show. In fact most of ITVs schedule should be examined: there’s an awful lot of their programmes that seem to centre around taking advantage of the vulnerable and the aftercare is apparently non existent

Agree 1000%

funinthesun19 · 15/05/2019 13:56

Yes Love Island should be scrapped too.
And channel 5 need to look at themselves too. Airing programmes such as “Can’t pay we’ll take it away” I mean, why is that even entraining to people?! And I bet the people who watch it don’t have money problems!
