RomanyQueen1 · 15/05/2019 10:37

Now all the other crap needs to go Love island, BGT, X Factor, I'm a celebrity, ffs the list is endless.

Geminijes · 15/05/2019 10:37

Jeremy Kyle show....1 suicide in 15 years...AXED

Love Island.....2 suicides in 3 years......NOT AXED

ITV displaying double standards!

SuperPixie247 · 15/05/2019 10:38

Good. He is a nasty little man. Lets hope he doesn't crawl out from under his rock in a few weeks when all this "has blown over" with a new gig.

comparing him to an insect felt really unjust towards the insect

PerfectPeony2 · 15/05/2019 10:39

I think with love island there may have been other issues surrounding the reasons for commuting suicide. Whereas this mans death was a direct result of the show 1 week later.

Not at all saying I agree with love island as I think it is awful.

PerfectPeony2 · 15/05/2019 10:39

*commiting

Milicentbystander72 · 15/05/2019 10:39

I believe Britain's Got Talent can make real careers for people though.

Look at Diversity, several talented comedians now appearing regularly on R4 and in British films.

I know a teenager that got through to the live finals of BGT. He was really looked after and is now working in Westend mudicals (ok not the leads but it's lead him to start there and work up).

I think Jk and Love Island are on a different level.

PotterHead1985 · 15/05/2019 10:41

Good riddance. Trying to be Jerry Springer (don't get me started on that one).

I loved BB waaaay back when it was in its infancy, but like everything it became all about gaining fame and notoriety for how you look and act, and less about the social experiment.

All those types of shows have very much gone that way. Love Island follows the same format. I have read from previous contestants that they get picked for the show, encouraged to play up and do things in front of the camera you wouldn't ordinarily do, drama deliberately created for viewership, the contestants thrust into the spotlight and then when it's over. Bam. Next to no support to get back to real life. Not surprising therefore that there have been suicides.

Horrid.

Milicentbystander72 · 15/05/2019 10:43

According to Jeremy Bine yesterday the J.K show asked for a letter from the mans GP saying he was fit to appear (after suffering a bout of depression). The GP gave the go ahead.

I believe the LI sucides were a result of immense social media pressure and self esteem issues once the cameras stop rolling and people loose interest. I still think that makes the programme very involved in those deaths.

ProfessorSlocombe · 15/05/2019 10:43

Axing the JK show is simply the cheapest possible publicity for it's successor. I doubt human nature has experienced a mass shift in values.

Bluestitch · 15/05/2019 10:43

Good. It should have been investigated after what happened in 2009 when a woman was beaten up after lie detector results.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 15/05/2019 10:43

The problem with all these shows is that they attract people who desperately want their 15 minutes of fame, but can’t actually DO anything. JK participants can’t seem to get that the attention the show brings them isn’t good attention, while Love Island contestants only have their looks - so all they end up doing is desperately trying to stay in the public eye via tales of who they’re shagging, or by getting thinner or fatter (and thinner again).

justarandomtricycle · 15/05/2019 10:43

You know the withdrawn broadcast involves people calling the man a worthless sack of shit in as many words. Even if that doesn't include the host.

We shouldn't be monetizing the angst and degeneration of the utterly dysfunctional underclass we have created.

Almost everything we have as a nation is arguably at the expense of their disenfranchisement and abandonment - whether it is the fake economic growth we have manufactured in the process of hollowing out the sectors their communities used to work in or the money we have made and saved in other ways that heap more misery, unemployment, homelessness and betrayal on them.

Blackorblack · 15/05/2019 10:45

It's the audition stages of the likes of BGT and X Factor that are disgraceful. Some of the contestants are just on to be humiliated.

Unless they no longer show these stages - I couldn't watch as I felt embarrassed for the deluded people.

TheQueef · 15/05/2019 10:45

Excellent. Now for Benefit bashing shows.

I doubt itv had a choice with MH in the spot light, I'd still like to see the psych team investigated.

DaisiesAreOurSilver · 15/05/2019 10:46

Several years too late.

Dreadful programme. Thus should perish all exploitative shite.

Lifecraft · 15/05/2019 10:47

The reason JK stayed on TV in the first place after the first couple of episodes is because people watch it. We get the telly and newspapers we deserve.

DonkeyHohtay · 15/05/2019 10:47

ITV will fill its slot with something similar. It gets high ratings, which is all ITV is interested in. Anyone hoping for something different is deluded, they are catering to the hard of thinking who want their daily fix of Jeremy Kyle, fluffy magazine programmes with Holly whatshername and reality TV.

alwaysthepessimist · 15/05/2019 10:49

wait for the lawsuits to begin for all the lives he has supposedly ruined despite some of these people being disgraceful anyway!

Glad it's gone though, can't believe Love Island is still going though.

ANewDawn10 · 15/05/2019 10:50

Excellent news!! It was just awful to see how he exploited people. Its was a.mockery of the most vulnerable people.
Ironic as his own life is deserving to be on that show.

JaneEyre07 · 15/05/2019 10:51

Love Island contestants are chosen from Instagram and are a certain type of person who lives their life through social media - akin to Big Brother contestants, X Factor, etc. Jeremy Kyle in comparison is like a form of bear baiting, and to lure people on their show with the promise of a free hotel stay and bar bill is just heinous.

I think it's well overdue.

IvanaPee · 15/05/2019 10:56

The thing with the Love Island contestants is that they’re the social media fame generation.

They’ll already have a fair few followers across platforms, and they know they’re going on to become a brand. They’re well aware of it.

Some of them are already Instagram personalities. And, let’s not forget, these suicides happened long after their seasons ended.

None of that holds true for your average JK guest.

More cynically; there’s no merchandise opportunities with JK demographic. No brand collaborations. No chance of follow-up shows.

Again, the exact opposite of Love Island.

Mooey89 · 15/05/2019 10:58

Well overdue in my opinion. Complete baiting of vulnerable people.
I’m surprised there haven’t been more reports of increased DV or assaults from it tbh

Mummyoflittledragon · 15/05/2019 10:58

I vaguely remember JK when it first come on and it was supposed to actually help people and be a breath of fresh air. From memory it did at the beginning although I only watched the odd part episode here or there. I was surprised a couple of years ago when I happened to switch on the programme at how nasty he had become. The show degraded into a British Jeremy Springer.

RiversDisguise · 15/05/2019 10:58

I always felt bad at myself for tuning in to laugh at the stupid people with their scummy sponger lifestyles, transparent lies, terrible grammar and lack of morals.

But I can't give up my Question Time. Blush

NotMyPuppy · 15/05/2019 10:58

I hate the programme because it preys in the vulnerable. I also hate Jeremy Kyle, and given how he apparently behaves in his private life I have no idea where he thinks he gets the moral high ground to lecture and berate his guests.
