Danny Baker: Standing ovation at first show since Twitter storm www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-nottinghamshire-48249637

What is wrong with people. He showed his true inherent racism but people still believe he's a top bloke!

Is anyone ever racist? Everytime one of these people spew their racist thoughts, we are always told that they're not really racist. That they made a mistake.

It would seem that no one is racist unless they are the KKK or some extreme far right group. We know that can't be true. Racism is rife, especially in its most dangerous form, which is unconscious bias.

Out of the overflow of their hearts do they speak or do these things. 95% per cent of the people saying he isn't racist is very likely to be white. The vast majority of non-white would say he is deep down.

NannaNoodleman · 13/05/2019 09:18

so sensitive to everything that people say.

Minimise the racism. Imply people are PC hysterical. Make racism OK!

It was an image of a chimp... it's not misinterpreted.

NoSauce · 13/05/2019 09:19

I agree with you OP. It was a racist image that he posted whether he’s admitting to be racist or not. I wouldn’t dream of posting anything like that due to the common racist association between monkeys and black/mixed race people. He’s apparently an intelligent guy and he works in the media so would have fully known that this picture would cause untold offence.

rainbowlovesfroot · 13/05/2019 09:20

Literally disgusting

ShatnersWig · 13/05/2019 09:21

@Dottierichardson That's a fair and valid point.

NannaNoodleman · 13/05/2019 09:21

His lengthy apology... after he denied it and was sacked! Doesn't scream genuine.

OP posts:
Sn0tnose · 13/05/2019 09:22

I was under the impression it was an ill thought out 'posh ' jibe not a racist one. which would have been arguable if he’d posted that photo when William & Kate brought any of their babies home. But he didn’t.

Love him or hate him, he’s not an unintelligent man. Anyone with two brain cells to rub together would have realised the racist connotations and how inappropriate posting that photo was.

WeeDangerousSpike · 13/05/2019 09:22

So if it wasn't racist, can someone please explain the 'joke' and why it's 'funny'.

I can see no other interpretation.

He's a racist twat.

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 13/05/2019 09:24

I think I read somewhere that his tweet was supposed to be about media circus. On the face of it, it's hard to see how he could not released that picture in the context of a mixed race baby bring born was racist. To give benefit of the doubt, if he was thinking along the lines of a media circus joke, it's conceivable he just didn't cotton on immediately.

WeeDangerousSpike · 13/05/2019 09:24

A 'posh' jibe? What's posh or not about a chimp?

Why not use a pic of a dressed up dog or cat? Would that have been 'funny'?

It would have been nonsensical.

He knew exactly what he was doing.

JaneJeffer · 13/05/2019 09:25

I think he's just a bit stupid and didn't realize the implications

A bit stupid? If he didn't realise the implications he must be the stupidest person on the planet.

ShatnersWig · 13/05/2019 09:25

@DoneLikeAKipper I chose the words poorly there. I hold my hands up immediately and shan't make a stupid apology like Baker.

Bigotry is bigotry. It is not exclusively a colour issue.

The tweet was racist. The BBC were right to sack him.

That wasn’t about this picture btw.

But yes there is definitely pc hysteria these days.
That’s why when people see or here things like this they’re actually not sure how to react. As you can see from many of the comments not everyone says he’s racist. Or maybe as a pp said those people are probably all white. Hmm

SerenDippitty · 13/05/2019 09:27

Anyone remember this?

www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2009/oct/05/strictly-come-dancing-bbc-defence

Not saying the BBC shouldn’t have sacked Danny Baker but they are hypocrites.

Justicegf · 13/05/2019 09:27

I think it was meant in the "trained monkey" sense and royal children do give off that vibe. Always waving, smiling - doing what they are told to do. A stuck out tongue is significant and hilarious Confused
He would only have seen it with W&K kids so wouldn't have posted it then.

That's what I took from it.

WeeDangerousSpike · 13/05/2019 09:28

X post re media circus.

OK, running with that for a minute, it seems so unlikely that that was the joke because it takes some serious mental gymnastics to get there from that pic and tag.

Smacks of grasping at straws to me.

Lifecraft · 13/05/2019 09:28

Considering he's been in the public eye since he was 17, and he's now 61, it's staggering that if he's such a massive racist, he's managed to go 44 years of broadcasting without a single previous incidence of racism. Not a hint of it, nothing.

And in all his writing, multiple books, for years churning out articles as a journalist on the NME...nothing. Not a single thing.

EskeewdBeef · 13/05/2019 09:29

Why do people always go down the 'you're racist for seeing racism' bollocks argument to defend racism? It is so illogical and childish. "Takes one to know one," should have been left in the playground Hmm

redwoodmazza · 13/05/2019 09:29

Just makes me wonder what search he put in to find that photo?
And what rubbish to say he didn't know which princess [?] was pregnant. A previous tweet of his shows he knew Meghan was pregnant.
Deserved to lose his job.

ShatnersWig · 13/05/2019 09:29

@Seren Sugar wasn't sacked for his racist tweet about the Senegalese football team last year either.

Rangeloaf · 13/05/2019 09:30

Danny Baker is a pretty intelligent guy. Even if was racist he wouldn’t be so stupid as to post that and ruin his career. It was clearly an unthinking mistake.

When I first saw the tweet I didn’t get it because I just wasn’t thinking like that.

LaraLily90 · 13/05/2019 09:30

Oh come on!!! It was actually quite funny

Rach182 · 13/05/2019 09:30

He works in football. Anyone that works on football knows that black players still frequently get monkey chants directed their way at matches by racist fans. Does he think the past couple decades of the Kick It Out campaign was just for funsies?!

To claim ignorance would either make him the stupidest man in Britain (which he clearly isn't), or a liar. Can't believe people are defending him.

EskeewdBeef · 13/05/2019 09:31

"Oh come on!!! It was actually quite funny"

What was funny?
