To ask if you remember the days when we didn't have to get our feet summer ready

It got warm, we slipped on our Jesus sandals (sometimes with our tights on) and greeted summer.
Maybe we'd paint our toe nails but there was no pressure to file away at our feet, put on some heel cream, buy a Footner.
We weren't shamed by our yellowing heels - they were just part of our wonderful feet that performed the miraculous feat (😊) of carrying us around decade after decade.

I assume by "summer ready" you mean develop the hard skin in the right places to wear new sandals without socks?

SachaStark · 12/05/2019 23:31

I was a ballet dancer for several years, so my feet have been ruined by pointe shoes... I don’t dare to wear anything which exposes my heels (always choose sandals with a proper back covering), and I won’t show my toes without a full colour nail paint to hide the damage.

WorraLiberty · 12/05/2019 23:41

If you'd read the thread, there'd be no need for assumptions...

KissUntilTheyDieOfRabies · 13/05/2019 01:18

We were born summer ready. Every human. We are as we should be for any season. Tadaa.

anothernotherone · 13/05/2019 06:12

PookieDo those conditions are not prevented by using "nice creams". Just washing daily and cutting nails with a normal nail scissors is enough. Your creams and scraping at your feet aren't stopping you getting infections, if anything you're probably opening up avenues for infection, and going to beauty salons/ nail bars certainly makes you more likely to contract fungal infections.

You constantly tell people who don't use "nice creams" that their feet are painful, but clearly people would be aware of their feet were painful! They aren't, and if they were they'd need medical attention not "nice creams" and to scrape their skin off

floribunda18 · 13/05/2019 06:24

I've never got my feet "summer ready" in my life as I look after them all year round. I wouldn't find it comfortable to have cracked heels, wonky long toenails and so on. Maybe it's because I've always been active, if your feet are hurting then you aren't going to be able to run.

Literally all I do differently in summer is paint my toenails, which takes five minutes.

WithTwoGiantBoys · 13/05/2019 06:34

Thanks @Worra, I've read the thread. This was sarcasm based on the entire premise of "summer ready feet" being bollocks.

GymKitJen · 13/05/2019 06:42

I have ugly feet - no beauty product or nail polish will get them summer ready 😆 I think I'd need surgery (wonky, splayed toes, flat feet)!

I just wear closed toe (supportive) functional sandals 🤷‍♀️

MariaNovella · 13/05/2019 06:48

I look after my feet all year round and sometimes even have a pedicure in winter. Even if I remove dead skin, use foot cream and cuticle remover and file my nails, I do find a good professional pedicure once in a while makes my feet much more comfortable and nice to look at.

RedRiverShore · 13/05/2019 06:49

I remember but I was young then and my feet were probably a lot nicer

Alsohuman · 13/05/2019 06:51

Effective products are anything but “nice creams”. The active ingredient in the most beneficial ones is urea!

If you don’t suffer from hard skin, lucky you @anothermotherone. However a lot of us do and the judicious use of a foot file and an effective product solves the problem. And it clearly is a problem or there would be no podiatrists, who incidentally go a step further and use a scalpel to remove hard skin.

RevokeRemainpastcaringreally · 13/05/2019 07:05

Does anyone remember those tanks full of live fish and you could pay to have the skin nibbled off your feet? Shudder!

I don’t get my feet summer ready I look after my feet all year round and they look and feel lovely

I have a pedicure / polish around every 4 -6 weeks and a extra one if I’m going on holiday .
At home I use Nuxe or Fenjal dry oil spray on my legs and feet most days
Some people’s feet are fucking minging and when they wear flip flops it’s vile . I don’t get how they don’t notice how horrible their feet are when wearing open shoes

My DH spent years kickboxing and swore the hard disgusting skin on his feet protected him ( and hurt his opponents 😂)
He now has lovely soft feet and nails 😂😂 after years of my moaning at him

I will admit though that I’m probably a bit obsessed with my feet and my hands looking nice 😂

PookieDo · 13/05/2019 09:24

Those tanks were a full health hazard basically a cruel fishy bacteria bath
I never put my feet in one

I won’t give up my foot cream for anyone

Riverviews · 13/05/2019 12:00

I look after my feet all year round. In the winter they get less dry, as they are always in socks, so I only need cream 3 times a week. In the summer, the open air dries them out so I moisturize twice a day. I like them soft and with painted nails.

I don't do it for the benefit of others. Whether I'm single or not, I always look after my feet.

When I was younger they needed less care. I think that's the same for any part of anyone's body!

OneStepSideways · 13/05/2019 12:58

I do notice people's feet. I think it's hard not to notice cracked scaly heels, hairy toes, yellow toenails etc.

I do an annual Footner treatment a week before I plan to wear sandals, trim and paint my toenails. I'd feel awkward exposing my feet otherwise.

outvoid · 13/05/2019 13:02

I use aveeno moisturiser all over my body including feet so don’t have dry skin. Paint my toenails once in a blue moon so they never look absolutely fantastic. Other than that just keep my nails trimmed and I gladly whack the Birkenstock’s on when the weather allows!

Honestly, unless your feet are green or covered in moss nobody really cares Grin.

LittleAndOften · 13/05/2019 13:06

My feet are ready to transport me to the beach, therefore they are summer ready! Grin

thecatsthecats · 13/05/2019 13:09

Glances at own feet

Is there supposed to be something you do to feet?

I'm a fairly heavy exerciser, I occasionally scrub at patches of thickened skin because they hurt at the gym, and I sometimes have burst blisters on the back of my heels.

Not sure if I have naturally ok feet, or if I have minging uncared for feet. I won't be changing what I do, but would kind of like someone to post a pic of good feet, just so I know.

Shockers · 14/05/2019 17:34

My mum always had a pumice stone in the bathroom. I don’t think foot care is a new thing!

blackteasplease · 14/05/2019 17:42

It's another marketing thing. Take no notice.

LisaD76 · 14/05/2019 17:51

I moisturise my feet year round.... I am very prone to dry skin and in my feet all day so a foot spa is about twice a week and moisturise twice a day.... and still backs of heels look dry by the time I get home

jessebuni · 14/05/2019 18:30

What do people do to get their feet summer ready? I might moisturise my feet if they feel especially dry or trim my toenails when they start to grow too long... That’s it. I don’t file or buff or do anything else to them. I don’t even paint them. They’re feet...I’m assuming most people don’t look at my feet, as long as they are clean and hygienic then my feet aren’t hurting anyone so I don’t really care if they are looking.

Diva66 · 14/05/2019 18:36

I look after my feet for the sake of my health. I don’t want bunions from squashing them into fashion shoes.

Fowles94 · 14/05/2019 19:21

I don't get any part of my body summer ready, anybody getting that close to notice my feet needs to rethink personal space 😂😂
