My DH calls bedding bedclothes. AIBU to think that he needs professional help?

My Dh does too .. he also calls trainers 'training shoes'!

Helplessfeeling · 10/05/2019 20:54

I remember my mum calling it that years ago. It is quite old fashioned now though.

recrudescence · 10/05/2019 20:54

Your husband is correct. Sorry.

NoSauce · 10/05/2019 20:55

Grin DH says “ I need some new clothing “ instead of clothes. Drives me mad.

mimibunz · 10/05/2019 20:57

I heard a very proper gent use the term bedclothes and I thought he meant pyjamas. Confused

LazyLemur · 10/05/2019 20:59

But that's what it is? "Bedding" makes me think of hamsters 🐭

LadySainsburySeal · 10/05/2019 21:01

Bedclothes is correct Grin

sandalsinthebin · 10/05/2019 21:08

My DH used to call food ‘foodstuffs’ it was so pretentious-sounding and it made me absolutely livid. He’s stopped now because I kept pulling him up on it, Still no clue why he did it - and he doesn’t even know why. I think he must have been possessed by the spirit of a pompous bastard

pallisers · 10/05/2019 21:11

so do I.

MissPollyHadADolly19 · 10/05/2019 21:12

Bedclothes to me sounds like a posh persons way of saying pyjamas Grin
Bedding is bedding!

honeylulu · 10/05/2019 21:13

My dad says "bathing costume" for swimwear.

lazylinguist · 10/05/2019 21:17

Hmm There are different words for things. They vary from generation to generation, from area to area, from class to class. Bedclothes is a pretty normal word. So is bedding. Neither of them is incorrect.

FeeLock · 10/05/2019 21:18

I call it 'bed linen'. I'll get my coat ... Grin

Pinkarsedfly · 10/05/2019 21:19

Bedclothes is totally normal.

Foodstuffs, on the other hand...Grin

Was he partial to a hot beverage too?

Apileofballyhoo · 10/05/2019 21:19

Does he dress the bed?

MichonnesBBF · 10/05/2019 21:20

My friend calls her dressing gown her 'night jacket', bearing in mind we were very early 20's when we met, now in mid thirties and has always said it.

I did ask her once why but she never really answered.

Shutuptodd · 10/05/2019 21:20

I thought bedclothes were Pj's. Then again I thought private ambulances were for rich people so I'm probably not one to ask.

SirVixofVixHall · 10/05/2019 21:21

I say bedclothes, and bathing costume/bathers/cossie .

JustCallMeSliths · 10/05/2019 21:21

We call the whole lot sheets. Grin Yet somehow we always (To date anyway) kniw whether the other person is referring to the actual "sheets" or the duvet cover/pillows.

SirVixofVixHall · 10/05/2019 21:21

I also say bed linen.

MrsSpenserGregson · 10/05/2019 21:21

YABU. Your DH is right. Bedclothes = sheets, blankets etc. On Sunday evenings I change all the bedclothes. Or sometimes I change the sheets, but I have definitely never ever changed the bedding.

Oh and I grew up with "bathing costume" too.

Alsohuman · 10/05/2019 21:22

I’ve always said bedclothes.

OldAndWornOut · 10/05/2019 21:22

Dressing gown or housecoat?

SirVixofVixHall · 10/05/2019 21:22

Or just “linen” , as in “do we have clean linen for dd’s bed ?” .
I now feel 103.

CathyorClaire · 10/05/2019 21:24

Bedstuff here. Best of both worlds Wink
