My DH calls bedding bedclothes. AIBU to think that he needs professional help?

DaisiesAreOurSilver · 10/05/2019 21:25

Bedding is where animals sleep.

doughnutcraver · 10/05/2019 21:26

Dressing gown?
Bathrobe?
Or house coat?

Nicketynac · 10/05/2019 21:26

I would say covers or maybe sheets. Or even just "I have changed the bed" which is very non-specific.

adaline · 10/05/2019 21:28

What's wrong with bathing costume?!

theWarOnPeace · 10/05/2019 21:28

Bed linen.

mumwon · 10/05/2019 21:28

night jackets are those little cardigan like things my dm wore (before central heating when reading in bed : ) (creeps away as showing age)

Hatemadeupwords · 10/05/2019 21:28

Linen! I agree with bedding being for hamsters 🐹 😂

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 10/05/2019 21:29

My husband is worse than all this. He says "clothe" as a noun, as in "The boys could do with some new clothe". I'm hoping it's a Scottish thing and he isn't just profoundly odd.

Singlenotsingle · 10/05/2019 21:30

Everyone calls bedding "bedclothes". Don't they? Confused

Chottie · 10/05/2019 21:30

@mumwon my elderly cousin always referred to them as bed jackets. She would crochet bed jackets with matching bed socks for the local church bazaar.

Justkeeprollingalong · 10/05/2019 21:31

Bed clothes is correct but bed linen is also acceptable. As are bathing costume and dressing gown.

WeeDangerousSpike · 10/05/2019 21:32

I had to think about it, but I say bed sheets or sheets for the whole lot as a group. I'll say duvet cover or pillowcase if I'm talking about them individually. Bedding is what hamsters sleep in.

Also say swimming costume.

Setting a cat among the pigeons: Tea is eaten in the evening.

Shodan · 10/05/2019 21:33

Bed linen here.

Bedding is for hamsters Grin

Even worse, I bought one this year. Well, a cheapy fleece jacket from Wish which when it arrived was too bobbly a fleece to wear in public, so I've kept it to wear in bed reading in the morning.

God my DP is so lucky. Grin That fleece and my bedsocks... plus my longjohns when it was really cold.

sparkli · 10/05/2019 21:35

Bed linen here.

I'm interested to know if this is another occasion of regional variations?! I'm in East Scotland.

RickOShay · 10/05/2019 21:36

I win
dh says underpants Grin

BogglesGoggles · 10/05/2019 21:37

The bedding is the quilt and pillows etc isn’t it?

LazyFace · 10/05/2019 21:38

Tea is a drink... 🙂

Wincarnis · 10/05/2019 21:39

Bedclothes in my house (North West England)
Bathers/cozzy
Tea at night as in breakfast/dinner/tea (pretty sure we’ve had a thread about that before)

whyohwhyowhydididoit · 10/05/2019 21:39

In my habit app the reminder is ‘ change sheets’ which means sheets duvet cover and pillowcases. If I was just talking about it to DH or DC I’d say bed clothes.

To me bedding means everything, all the bed linen described above plus actual duvets, pillows and mattresses.

Honeyroar · 10/05/2019 21:39

Nowadays I'd say we need to change the duvet cover. Otherwise I'd be happy with bed clothes, bed linen or bedding (but I'd also use bedding to describe what my horses sleep on).

BogglesGoggles · 10/05/2019 21:40

Oh and bathers/swimming costume where I come from. Other varriations from down under include swimmers, bathing costume and budgie smugglers. Swimwear is a section in a store.

Troels · 10/05/2019 21:40

I say underpants too Grin
And the bedclothes I call sheets, even if I mean pillowcases. As in I'm changing the sheets.
Housecoats are the old lady ones with a zip up the front. I wear a dressing gown.
Just realized I say Swimming costume too. LOL I think I'm from the 1800's and got lost.

popehilarious · 10/05/2019 21:42

I take the baby out in the perambulator :)

RickOShay · 10/05/2019 21:43

troels but doesn’t it make you snigger every time you say it?
