To ask if you've ever been banned/barred from anywhere?

Was having a conversation with a friend this week and she's been banned from her local swimming centre for arguing with the receptionist. The receptionist didn't believe her daughters age and said that she was trying to get her in cheaper resulting in the manager banning her for life!

It made me think of the time I was banned from Santa's grotto 15 years ago 🤦🏻‍♀️ I can't go into too much detail because it's extremely outing!

Not exactly banned, but 20 years ago in Northampton Sixfields Cineworld the server wouldn't believe I was 22 and wouldn't sell me a beer, so I got my younger brother's mate (aged 19) to buy it for me, the love. still bitter

Got thrown out of a City of London pub for kissing my then boyfriend.

Got thrown out of City University St Barts School of Nursing and Midwifery in 2000 for being "unsafe". No chance of getting registered, apparently. Basically, go away, never come back.

I have a ban-aim, actually, to be blocked by Owen Jones, Guardian "journalist", snowflake and misogynist on Twitter. For some reason, I have not achieved this ambition (yet).

I said sorry and posted a casserole recipe instead

I was banned from a pub for refusing to sleep with the sleazy landlord when he discovered I was underage....
I have been banned from a post office for telling the twat how to do his job as he didn't have a clue (it was my profession at the time).

I just remembered I got barred from a crap bar in the city. It was a leaving do and I went outside a sneaky fag with another one of our group the bouncer decided I was too drunk as I was doing something odd apparently ( I stood on some chewing gum which I was trying to scrape off by moving my foot along pavement). I went back in to get my stuff and use the loo, came back out the loo and two bouncers were waiting for me.

I got banned from the shopping center near my mums for arguing with a security guard.

I went to a rough school and was in there in uniform, the security guard accused me of being up to no good coz everyone knows all kids from said school are trouble and "I've had enough of your kind shoplifting" he went into a whole rant about council estate kids so I very loudly explained to him that I would not be moving until his boss came to apologise for his disgusting behaviour, then sat on the floor. By the time the manager arrived there were quite a few people watching, the manager apologised and I rather smugly walked off. Next time I went in the security guard informed me I was banned.

I got banned from the Brownies when I was 9

Got banned from soft play for calling them out on being cheeky greedy bastards.
They behaved like fucking peelers every time my niece who is 5 tried to go into the toddler area to look after my 1 year old.
They said it was a health and safety issue for her to be there and I should go in if he needed help. I'm 22 stone mate... I'm pretty sure that I pose more of a health and safety risk than my 3 stone niece

I was banned from a pub because I was heard asking a couple of guys to explain why they called me a CT.
(I'd politely asked them to move slightly along a shared bench .... we were all needing to share the bench and they were taking up heaps of space, unnecessarily )
What upset the pub manager was that I used the "C-word ", but he totally ignored the fact that I was just asking the blokes why they'd called me a Ct.

I was barred from the magazine Let's Knit's forum because I told them they'd yet again not tested the pattern they'd published, i.e. was wrong and damaging to the craft. A bunch of us set up another forum where it was happy and jolly.

Oh, also got chucked out of a tearoom by the lunatic (then) owner. Who claimed I'd written nasty messages about her. She reckoned I'd bad mouthed her all the time she had the business (about a year) funny thing though, when I spent £250 I think it was on one afternoon tea she was MORE than happy to take my money.

I got banned from Gumtree for posting an ad for a new business venture I was starting - admin work! Apparently my ad didn't "comply with guidelines". When I emailed to ask why I'd been banned as I couldn't see an issue (plenty of similar ads on the) they said they wouldn't engage in conversation, my ban was permanent and that any further emails would be ignored

Got banned from a holiday cottage for complaining that it stank. Despite the fact that the landlord sent their handyman out to us 3 times in the week we were there to sort out the drains in the bathroom

As a teenager i was in a group who got our school banned from an outdoor residential camp (I wasn't directly involved with events that lead to the ban, but I was on the same trip. From what I heard it was a bit wild )

@edwardcullensotherwoman this happened to my friend when she put her kitchen up for sale on Gumtree. No explanation, they basically said they couldn't tell her the reason but she was banned! It was the first thing she'd ever listed.

Got kicked out of a Facebook group for a well known brand of high street pottery. Was genuinely asking a question and the admin clearly thought I’d overstepped the mark somehow because I suddenly wasn’t in the group anymore. Messaged the admin to ask her what the hell she thought she was doing and got told to shut my stinking gob. I found out later that the question I was asking related to someone else that had fallen foul of her power trips so she obviously thought I was on a wind up. I wasn’t! Me and my friends on a couple of rival groups have a good laugh about her every now and then.

We once stayed in a holiday cottage in the middle of nowhere in France. We had so many issues(mice, a downstairs bathroom that stank amongst other things)with the place I wrote a pretty frank and scathing review in the guest book. We used to own a holiday cottage in France and we should have rented it out, we'd have done a hell of a lot better job than they did. We never went there again obviously but I'm pretty sure we'd be banned anyways. Just remembered this.

I was also banned from local fb group as I'd messaged an admin after a pretty bad bit of bullying on there which is witnessed. I reiterated how upsetting it can be and what if someone had Autism or similar? Could be extremely damaging to them (not exact words but that was basically what I said) and he flipped! Said "my brother has Autism so don't you dare!!"

I spoke to another admin member and explained that he had clearly misunderstood me and that if anything I was DEFENDING not criticising and she sided with him! Called me 'Disablist!'

I'm disabled.

I was briefly banned from MN for starting a thread about something deeply personal involving the neglect of my daughter by her 'Dad' whilst I was in hospital. I needed support. Every word of it was true yet (presumably because it really was shocking what he did - not sexual, just horrific neglect. Even the Police weren't sure exactly what charge to use/bring) nobody believed it and the thread was full of trollhunting and "Is it not bedtime yet little one" "Must be the school holidays" and "Reported" Then MNHQ deleted the thread with the comment "Yikes don't worry folks, that's thankfully been zapped" or something to that effect. I broke down and sobbed for over an hour. I'd turned to MN for support. I wish it had been false. Sadly not....
Luckily after a chat with MNHQ I was allowed back on but no acknowledgement of my countless emails showing documented proof that it was true. They just insisted I 'promise not to make things up again'

John Menzies, I once attempted to shoplift a marker pen in the 90’s unsuccessfully for a dare...i am that bad a person and 14 year old me has never recovered from the shame. Luckily they went out of business (I doubt it was from marker pen theft though!)

Banned from a chat room when I was a kid (and when dial up internet was a thing still ) for claiming that Fidel Castro was my uncle. I didn’t even know who Fidel Castro was at the time, me and my sister were bored and just out to wind people up. Thing was, all you had to do was go back with another user name and they let you back in so it was a pointless ban.

Also got kicked out of a Facebook kid’s clothes buying & selling group and I have no idea why 🤷🏻‍♀️ I posted an ad for wanted clothes, people replied, I purchased, they posted. Next time I went on it I had been removed and blocked. Apparently it happens a lot on that page.

Some of these are hilarious, but the amount of women who have been banned from bars for retaliating to sexual assault is truly fucking depressing!

@SalemSpellman I was feeling down that I hadn’t been barred from anywhere like everyone else but seeing your post reminded me I got barred from Subway City! (to be fair, they caught me taking coke in the toilets)

I was also banned from playing basketball at Drayton Manor on a school trip. It was one of those games where you paid a pound and then had two shots at dunking the basketball to win a prize. I paid and won and got a huge teddy and then my friend gave me a pound to win one for her, which I did. Another friend gave me a pound to win for them but I was told I wasn’t allowed to play anymore

When I was a working teenager I used to buy chips for my lunch every day. I got banned from the chip shop because I ‘use too much vinegar’.

A lot goes on under the guise of "trollhunting". Given mummypatagonia's story I'm not surprised we ended up with our... current issues.
