Actually - and I’m not at all a woo kind of person - I would be inclined to believe it. I think lots of things (eg sleep) are affected by cycles which may be linked to moon cycles. I definitely sleep less well when there’s a full moon and if I were criminally minded that lack of sleep might reduce my ability to stop myself committing a crime.
Who knows?

Steamfan · 08/05/2019 12:25

Don't know about crime, but I used to work in a call centre, and the weird calls went up every full moon.

Contraceptionismyfriend · 08/05/2019 12:26

I'm not superstitiously all.
However myself, DH and all of our friends work in clubs. And it's well known that all the twats come
Out on a full moon.
There will be more fights, more people thrown out and more people mouthing off. It's great fun.

historyrocks · 08/05/2019 12:26

I spoke to a couple of policemen about this. They reckon that they have an increase in crime when it’s a full moon—particularly fighting. Even worse if it’s at the weekend.

IAmTheChosenOne · 08/05/2019 12:27

Ask an A&E nurse if its true, plenty of statistics out there to corroborate that there is a peak in violent crime and admissions.

Interesting article on the subject.

teyem · 08/05/2019 12:28

Nah, I agree, it's the kind of bollocks people like to believe but has no bearing in reality.

MaMisled · 08/05/2019 12:29

I work with the elderly and dementia related behaviours escalate alarmingly during a full moon.

whatwouldyoubelikeat28 · 08/05/2019 12:30

Everything in the world Influences your body, and your psyche is inextricably linked. The food, the weather, pollution, light, other people, current events, the chair you sit on at work. Why wouldn't the moon and the light it emanates and the gravitational pull - it does pull oceans across the planet, after all!
My cycle actually syncs to the moon.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 08/05/2019 12:30

full moon, pay day and a nice heatwave and being on a weekend night shift would make dh shake his head in horror.

SingingLily · 08/05/2019 12:30

I used to work in prisons and I was sceptical about a rise in bad behaviour around the time of a full moon but had to conclude there was something in it. It was particularly noticeable in women's prisons...

Becca83 · 08/05/2019 12:31

I work for an emergency service and we are always a lot busier during a full moon. Particularly violent incidents.

Siameasy · 08/05/2019 12:33

Emergency services here too-defo something in it. If it’s a full moon and especially a hot day we groan.

blackcat86 · 08/05/2019 12:34

It's true. I work in social care and you can always tell. I went to A&E a few years ago with an asthma attack and the doctor noted they had several people there in the same situation (basically a line of us on nebulisers). He said it's very common during a full moon.

bagpiss · 08/05/2019 12:34

I'm certain on QI, this was a question once and the answer was that behaviour didn't change.

I read an article on a science& research blog once, think it was called Frontier, (?) that I also think said no discernible difference in behaviours at full moon than in general.

Bloomburger · 08/05/2019 12:36

There is. When it's really windy too. I used to work in an adolescent mental health unit and the children were bloody nightmares when it was a full moon or v v windy.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 08/05/2019 12:42

My sister worked in a psychiatric unit and there was always an esclarion in behaviours at the full moon.

x2boys · 08/05/2019 12:48

Definitely Bigearring I worked in both acute and elderly mental health , and often bad nights shifts coincided with full moons .

whitehalleve · 08/05/2019 12:51

Having worked in a psychiatric units for many years I can tell you as will most other medics or nurses, that it's definitely a thing!

slowdownplease · 08/05/2019 12:53

As a teacher, I was so tempted to phone in sick on windy full moon daysConfused

StarShapedWindow · 08/05/2019 12:55

Yes, my fathers work partner used to go into a black mood whenever there was a full moon. It was very noticeable because he was such an easy going guy normally.

Walnutwhipster · 08/05/2019 12:57

Ask any nurse. They'll definitely tell you there's an increase in strange and violent behaviour.

Satterthwaite · 08/05/2019 12:59

Ask any nurse, and police officer or any firefighter. Yes it does happen!

PhillipeFellope · 08/05/2019 13:05

full moon, pay day and a nice heatwave and being on a weekend night shift would make dh shake his head in horror

Same here.

Bezalelle · 08/05/2019 13:06

Definitely a thing!

Skeptics just don't want to acknowledge it.
