to be wary of Naked Wine?

(or leary, in MN talk)

Are they good wines? Impossible to compare price, as it's independent vineyards, that aren't necessarily in shops. And I don't quite get the 'angel' thing. Anyone get their wine delivered?

I know loads of people that are happy with them. It's just like a club in which you prepay really. The wines are fine

Shoxfordian · 07/05/2019 13:51

Yes they're really good wines
I'm an angel, it means you get the discounts on the wines. I can recommend Arabella Chenin Blanc if you like a nice dry white wine

Sculpin · 07/05/2019 13:52

Not currently a member, but I've used them in the past and was happy with them.

CurtainsOpen · 07/05/2019 13:52

Never had a problem. Just a wine subscription, and usually good stuff.

BurningTheToast · 07/05/2019 13:53

We buy wine from them. Better quality than the supermarkets for the same sort of money and when I had a duff bottle I emailed and they refunded the cost of it without question.

Not the cheapest, but better wine for the price, if you see what I mean. We've used them for years. Which reminds me, need to stock up...

popehilarious · 07/05/2019 13:53

I don't like most wines or know anything about them but dh gets Naked Wines and honestly, theyre usually really really good. We usually wait until they send a really good discount!

MaudesMum · 07/05/2019 13:56

The wine is fine, and being able to pay monthly means that it spreads the cost out. I also keep an eye out for good offers, and usually place orders around those. I personally get really really irritated by the jolly/trying to be your best mate tone of their emails, but I think that might just be me!

ginnybag · 07/05/2019 13:56

I'm a member and love it. Decent quality wines at reasonable prices and the 2 x a year tasting sessions are great fun.

If anyone wants to give it a go, I'm quite happy to pm a referral code that'll get a £120 case for £40.00?

AgentProvocateur · 07/05/2019 13:57

I’m an angel and I love their wine. And I think they refund you if you get a duff one.

Nickpan · 07/05/2019 14:02

oh wow, this is all positive! I got a £40 NakedWine voucher from Majestic Winehouse, so I'll go ahead.

Waiting for discount offers sounds like a good plan.

We are members and love it. The Christmas box is particularly good value

Fatasfooook · 07/05/2019 14:04

The wine society is great. Amazing wine

whyohwhyowhydididoit · 07/05/2019 14:13

majestic and Naked are linked in some way. I read a little while ago that Majestic had rebranded one store as Naked Wine.

anonymousbird · 07/05/2019 14:14

Lovely wine, and when you join their club (as little as £10 a month) you get discounts. The wine, pound for pound, is superb. You can easily get bottles for the £8/9 mark which are twice as good as what costs £7 from a supermarket.

That reminds me, I might up my monthly payment so I get to my next case quicker!

HopefullyAnonymous · 07/05/2019 14:16

Ooh I might have to give it a go. How does it work?

mbosnz · 07/05/2019 14:16

Naked Wine has purchased Majestic. Majestic is apparently potentially going to have some or all of its stores closed, and rebranding is definitely on the cards.

I did a taste test of a number of savignon blancs there a couple of weeks ago, and the Naked one stacked up reasonably well in my opinion.

downcasteyes · 07/05/2019 14:19

If you're up for a club, The Wine Society are great and really look after you!

DianaBlythe · 07/05/2019 14:20

Better quality than supermarket wine for the same kind of price. And really good customer service - they’ll refund you if you don’t like one.

They were totally happy to suspend my account whilst pregnant and even put a free bottle of champagne in my basket for after due date.

I also accidentally ordered wine to my old address after I’d moved. They retrieved the wine, refunded me and gave me free wine to apologise for the inconvenience. Even though the inconvenience was entirely caused by me!

Christmas deal is always good. Have noticed offers aren’t quite as good as they used to be in the past but I think such is life!

Mississippilessly · 07/05/2019 14:21

You pay in each month and then you buy cases when you like (so you dont have to buy x amount each month). You often get 'free' bottles of whatever they are promoting and the xmas selection is great and you get unusual gins etc.
We have had one bad bottle and have been members for getting on for 7 years.

AgnesNaismith · 07/05/2019 14:22

I love Naked Wines and this year saving up monthly for a big Christmas purchase of wine. The cases I had last year were all lovely!

Todamhottoday · 07/05/2019 14:26

We were members from the very beginning, good quality wines at fair prices. I liked the concept that they had, using the suppliers you could find out more with regards to the wine you bought. In the beginning the 'quirky' use of words and the general less snobbish branding was great.

But then they were bought out by Majestic (2015 I think) and the prices went up a little, and we wanted a better range, now its changing again as Majestic is closing stores and the remaining ones will be branded Naked Wines. We stopped our subscription and have not used them since preferring to use the Sunday Times Wine Club.

I did ask in Majestic just a couple of weeks ago if they would just stock Naked Wines and do away with the subscription, and they had no idea what was going to happen.

GaryWilmottsTeeth · 07/05/2019 14:28

I think they're great. just pay in every month, the balance is waits until you want to spend it, so you don't have to get a case every month. you can make your own cases up or get a ready-picked one, we made a case of pudding wines up for my mum as a birthday present and she has raved about them. Agree the Christmas deal is very good. Definitely worth giving them a try.

I can recommend Arabella Chenin Blanc if you like a nice dry white wine I was drinking the Arabella Cab Sauvignon last night, also very nice.

Villanellesproudmum · 07/05/2019 14:29

Majestic wine acquired Naked Wine a few years ago. It’s their online brand and they’ seeking advice on the shops property portfolio, likely to all go over to NW. Either way it’s a huge operation and there core business is wine so you’ll be fine. I used to subscribe to Virgin Wine years ago they used to have good offers.

PopGoesTheWeaz · 07/05/2019 14:30

Friend's husband subscribed through work (could have actually been virgin wines?) He doesn't drink wine, but she does. Then she found out she was pregnant and they tried to cancel but couldn't. It may have been work's hr, and not the wine club's policy but let's just say, everyone received wine for every possible present that year.

Moral is make sure you can cancel if you don't like it.

If you like old world wines in particular, the wine society is great and you pay once to join and then have it for ever. I also like majestic when driving home from france.

Weaverspin · 07/05/2019 14:32

I like both Naked Wines and our local Majestic store, so I'm not too bothered by the Majestic takeover and rebranding. I like that I can pay in monthly, and get a case when I have enough money, usually with an interesting freebie included. I've really enjoyed the wines I've had.
