to be wary of Naked Wine?

(or leary, in MN talk)

Are they good wines? Impossible to compare price, as it's independent vineyards, that aren't necessarily in shops. And I don't quite get the 'angel' thing. Anyone get their wine delivered?

We like naked wines (we are angels). The Christmas box is great, you get all sorts of "extras" like coffee, glasses, olive oil (yes, I know you are paying for them really). The only annuyng thing is the marketing emails where they constantly pretend they have made a mistake.

nelsonmuntzslingshot · 07/05/2019 16:14

DH orders from them at Christmas and they have always been really good.

WhatNowRandy · 07/05/2019 16:15

We had the initial box of wines from them, and found them all very nice. Didn't end up becoming subsribing in a futile effort to drink less wine. I kind of regret it...

FreeTedHastings · 07/05/2019 16:26

I agree that Naked Wines are OK, and can be worth it with a good voucher but The Wine Society offers by far the best value and quality. As said upthread it's a members' organisation. As with others, you get better wine if you pay a tenner or more, but they also have remarkably good wines in the under £7 range.

MereDintofPandiculation · 07/05/2019 16:34

any views on laithwaites They do two types of purchase 1) you subscribe to a case every three months. They tell you what will be in the case, and if you don't want it, you cancel and aren't charged 2) you order on-line as much or as little as you like, whenever you like, with discounts if you order 12 or more bottles at the same time.

I go for the second method, been buying from them for years. We've never had a wine we didn't like, although they give your money back if you don't like a wine. Customer service is excellent. They also trade as "sunday times wine club".

It's excellent having a stash of wine and knowing you can always reach for the right bottle for a meal.

Constance1234 · 07/05/2019 16:37

PopGoesTheWeaz Haha thanks I don't need any further explanation. Was just a bit odd that you wrote on a specific thread about Naked Wines something that might possibly be about another company. That's all.

Allhailthesun · 07/05/2019 16:41

Laithwaites has some excellent offers. I have had a couple introductory case with free delivery and some lovely glasses. I couldn’t say long term as a I am too poor to buy cases.
I have a friends and family discount from Majestic but frankly I do find the quality end of Lidls wines fantastic.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 07/05/2019 16:57

I got signed up by accident...so watch out for any free offers.!

There was a free voucher for a case when dh bought me my kitchen aid, and to sign up you had to fill in a questionnaire, and pay for postage, and somehow I ended up paying them £20 a month, but as we hadn't missed the money we let it be and have been with them for a good while now.

HOWEVER...it's all worked out very well, I just wait until there is about £100 in my account, or they have a nice "3 free bottles" offer or they phone to ask me if I have died of thirst I want anything and get a case delivered
They are always very amenable on the phone and easily persuaded to put through an offer, I moaned once as I missed a 3 free bottles offer as we had been away and the guy just said he'd put it through for me anyway!

IME it is all very nice wine, lots of gorgeous big juicy reds which I like and they always say if there's something not to my taste they will refund.

My main gripe is that they usually use Yodel to deliver and once a case got lost, they sorted it out fairly smartly though.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 07/05/2019 16:58

Parents let me share their Laithwaites account, we are all pretty satisfied with standard, selection and service.

I got a Naked voucher as a Christmas "bonus in kind" from work about 3 years ago. I think it the cheapest deal available as the selection you were entitled to was crap unless you signed up to pay £££ on top. It was when I worked in retail and we had Naked Wines offers in the bumpf that came with our orders at the time, too. I think it rather unfairly put me off them, tbh. I'm pleased to see that people have enjoyed using them and might have a look.

Nickpan · 10/05/2019 15:08

my delivery arrived, along with 2 vouchers for friends, £60 and £80.
How skullduggerous to use a friends address so that I can get more wine? It'd be my parents, they don't drink

OP posts:
Nickpan · 10/05/2019 15:35

could my partner at the same address as me, use the voucher?

LadyRannaldini · 10/05/2019 17:47

Don't be seduced by 'original' prices, they, and other wine clubs in that bracket, tend to be decent wines, we've had a lot from Laithwaites and Virgin. Beware though, you may be joining a wine club and get a non-reduced case every couple of months, you can call and cancel once you have the first case, don't forget to do it!

Napster1 · 26/09/2019 20:48

Hey, I just got Voucher for 75 pounds for Naked wine and don't plan on using it. Any chance I can sell it off to anyone keen for 20 pounds?

Napster1 · 26/09/2019 20:53

Scratch What was previously said, Anyone want the code for free?

Littlewhitedove · 26/09/2019 21:16

Love Naked Wines. I am an Angel. Lay of the Land Sauvignon Blanc is my fave. Never had a problem with them. I once had a Rose which I did not like...they instantly refunded my account and did not expect me to return the other bottle. Their wine tasting tours are great too.

Haphazardhacker · 27/09/2019 16:27

I work at Majestic. Majestic bought Naked and now the CEO of Naked has sold Majestic. We’re all still baffled by it. Anyway we are now separate operations.

CakeNinja · 27/09/2019 17:50

How funny, I received some flowers today and in with them was a £75 voucher off a case of wine priced at £115 or more. Even for £40, 12 bottles of wine is a bargain! I’m not sure I believe that the wine is particularly fancy or that it’s really much of a discount although I’m not a wine buff - I only drink red anyway!!
Think I’ll buy a case.

awishes · 27/09/2019 17:53

Great customer service and good wine!

CountFosco · 27/09/2019 18:08

Another vote for The Wine Society, you pay a one off joining fee of £40 (it has been this price for the last 20 years!) that gets you a share that you have forever, you can actually pass on your share to your children! It's a co-operative and it has lots of interesting wine but also a good selection of good value reliables. You can sign up to 'Wine without Fuss' where they send you a case (red, white or mixed and different price points) at an interval that suits you. Or you can buy En Primeur if you are really into wine. Staff are fabulous, know their wine and are really helpful. I've been a member for over 20 years, best money I ever spent.

Redpriestandmozart · 27/09/2019 18:11

I've been with them three or four years and in that time have never had a bad wine. One or two that I'd maybe not order again because I like others better. Customer service is brilliant, they will suspend your account over a few months if you have a back up of wine which has happened to me a few times.

Even better though, every time I do an order I open a chat window and ask if there are any free wines at the minute and they always ask what I like, suggest wine and add it free to my basket. I love Naked Wines.

MsMustDoBetter · 27/09/2019 18:14

Joined Naked Wine upon recommendation, that was four years ago.

I let me credit build up and order a couple of cases a year, really helps at Christmas when there is already so much to pay for.

Look out for Katie Jones, we absolutely love her wines.

ginola69 · 25/05/2020 13:06

Yes please! That would be amazing.... Many thanks 👍
