Woman letting dog on train seat

I've just got an a (quite busy) train and a woman has got on with her spaniel sized dog and let it jump straight up on the seat. I asked her if she thought that was ok and she got a bit arsey and told me that she was going to put a blanket down for it (she hadn't) and that she'd paid for a ticket for the dog, which wasn't really what I was getting at. Was IBU? Is it is ok to have a dog on a seat on public transport?

My dog is cleaner than most people. Honestly.

Same with mine, and he smells better than most too.

People don't put their dogs in carriers on the tube

They just have them with them. Small dogs tend to get held or go on lap if the person had a seat.
Large dogs they tend to stand near doors.
You see dogs not infrequently. I don't think they need tickets.
I have not seen them on seats or anyone get a child to stand so a dog can have a seat.

Just checked tfl says dogs go free, max 2. They may not go on seats.

I regularly take DDog on the train. He's little, and usually sits on my lap - I trained him to do so on the tube when he was in danger of being trodden on by fellow passengers. He, of course, doesn't differentiate between tubes and long distance trains Grin

Sometimes his feet have ended up directly on a seat when he's decided my thighs aren't comfortable enough or he jumps onto an empty seat on his way to my lap. He's not there for more than 5 seconds.

I often have people choose to sit next to us because they're dog starved and desperate for cuddles. If it's crowded I always ask if another passenger minds me sitting next to them. Only one, unnecessarily apologetic man has declined due to allergies and I was happy to move to the next carriage.

Train seats are always a bit grubby. I find the least clean passengers are toddlers whose parents let them eat on the train - the whole surrounding area seems to end up covered in crisp crumbs and half chewed biscuits, with no attempt by the parents to clear up after their little darlings.

When my dog goes on the train with me I put him on his blanket on a seat.

Its a 4 hour trip, he's a dog always 5 minutes from starvation so would happily be like a loon looking for food on the floor the entire trip. For us putting him on the seat (with a blanket) is far more settling.

If someone wanted his seat I'd put him on my lap.

We go on buses too, he goes on my lap if the bus is busy. He's a small Westie, I don't want him stood on by mistake by someone so he goes on my lap.

He loves looking out of the window watching the world go by, people wave to him Grin

A dog wouldn't worry me if the train wasn't busy.

You should see the state of the seats on a Friday or Saturday night. Drink split, food all over them, peoples feet on them, vomit everywhere.

A dog would be the least of my worries for what's been on a train seat.

Thought this was a piss take and then saw it on the tube on Thursday - tube was packed, loads of people standing and man spreader spread and had his dog on a seat.

Seriously not on
