Woman letting dog on train seat

I've just got an a (quite busy) train and a woman has got on with her spaniel sized dog and let it jump straight up on the seat. I asked her if she thought that was ok and she got a bit arsey and told me that she was going to put a blanket down for it (she hadn't) and that she'd paid for a ticket for the dog, which wasn't really what I was getting at. Was IBU? Is it is ok to have a dog on a seat on public transport?

Well I guess its time for the weekly dog hating thread on MN. Hmm

BogglesGoggles · 07/05/2019 17:30

No that’s just rude. That seat will be very dirty for a very long time which is grim in and of itself but worse given that many people are allergic. It’s weird enough that pets are allowed on public transport here, they definitely shouldn’t be sitting on the seats.

Saltisford · 07/05/2019 18:13

The main reason I would absolutely hate this (other than it being utterly gross - we’re not all dog lovers) is that I am allergic and would immediately start itching and sneezing. I wouldn’t expect anyone to do this!

MenuPlant · 07/05/2019 18:16

? Grey?

The answers have been
Dogs should have seats
Children should stand for dogs
Children are awful
Humans are gross
People having allergic reactions to animal hair that compromise their breathing is fine

I'd say the dog lovers are out in force so no need to feel sad :/

Do you really think it's hateful to think a dog should sit in the floor on public transport? If people are standing? You see that as a dog hating position?

What more do you want tbh

GreytExpectations · 07/05/2019 18:53

@MenuPlant if you read my post from earlier i give my opinion on the situation. Just wait, by tomorrow the dog haters will be out in full force.

ginghamstarfish · 07/05/2019 19:00

Nasty. If you want your dog's shitty arse on your own seats at home, go for it, but not on public transport. People are just ignorant and vile sometimes.

TrendyNorthLondonTeen · 07/05/2019 19:11

"Well I guess its time for the weekly dog hating thread on MN. hmm"

Don't you know? On MN every dog ever is a disgusting, shit covered, piss soaked, vicious, out of control flea bag waiting to pounce on you and cover you in it's disgusting poisonous drool.

Though I must say this thread is a pleasant change from the usual "a dog sniffed my child in the street AIBU to nuke them all from space??" thread.

DontVisitMe · 07/05/2019 19:17

Do you include yourself in the collective judgement ‘people are gross

It depends how unwashed I am that day.

freetone · 07/05/2019 20:16

Unfortunately there are a few lazy owners out there who do not take care of their dog’s hygiene. I see it all too often. What if the dog has worms and rubs themselves all over the seat? Not everyone does what they’re supposed to, quite a lot of animals are neglected in this country. I’m not saying all of them are, I’m just trying to make you see that more dogs than you think do walk about in their own faeces and urine. My NDN for example, her garden is full of it and they run about in it all day. Dread to think what her house is like! Most dogs don’t effectively clean themselves, like cats, so they need baths and grooming etc. Dogs can’t administer jabs, flea or worm treatment etc. If the human isn’t doing it then they won’t be hygienic dogs. Luckily MOST dogs are well cared for, but it still happens. I would upload pics of the house I cleaned but it’s a breach of confidentiality. The state of the sofas that the dogs had walked all over was unbelievable. These were neglected dogs of course, but they still looked ‘normal’ to your average person

user1480880826 · 07/05/2019 20:25

It’s revolting. Dogs have filthy bums and it’s vile to think I might be sitting where a dog has wiped it’s arse. Imagine if you sat your baby on that seat without knowing some dog’s arse had been wiped all over it.

People who treat their dogs like humans need to get a life.

And I bet that woman hadn’t bought her dog a train ticket. What kind of maniac buys a train ticket for a dog?! ...actually, probably the same maniac that lets her dog wipe it’s poo all over a seat designed for a human.

GreytExpectations · 07/05/2019 20:42

@TrendyNorthLondonTeen your post really made me laugh as its so true😂

Ive just noticed a few "dogs are disgusting" posts so it didnt last long. Love that apparently all dogs are just covered in shit and piss, its a shock all those poor children from households with dogs are still alive! Hmm

user1480880826 · 07/05/2019 21:09

@GreytExpectations no one is suggesting that dog poo is going to harm a child (although it can, of course) but it’s still revolting. No one would knowing expose their child to it. If you child trod in dog poo you would clean their shoe a lot more thoroughly than if they trod in mud.

Also, all of those people with dogs and children who are unharmed by dog poo and wee are exposing their children out of choice. People who don’t have dogs in their homes and gardens have chosen not to expose themselves and their children to the mess that comes with dogs. It therefore shouldn’t be forced on them by inconsiderate dog owners. No one is suggesting that people shouldn’t be allowed dogs but your dogs mess is your problem and not mine.

GreytExpectations · 07/05/2019 21:22

@user1480880826 my post was meant to be sarcastic. I think you have taken it too seriously....

bowchicapewpew · 07/05/2019 21:31

Yanbu. Dogs are not humans. I'm not saying they shouldn't be accorded kindness as living things but equally we don't bring a beloved pig, horse, sheep, cow, skunk or snake etc on public transport.

That lady sounds like the sort whose dog will chew her face off after death (it's true, they are animals, not substitutes for human love)

StoneofDestiny · 07/05/2019 21:42

Just because you don't want dog shit, dog slabber, dog hair and dog breath on you or next to you doesn't mean you hate dogs!

GreytExpectations · 07/05/2019 22:04

That lady sounds like the sort whose dog will chew her face off after death (it's true, they are animals, not substitutes for human love)

bowchicapewpew, surely your point could have been made without adding that?

NewPapaGuinea · 07/05/2019 22:21

BS she bought the dog a train ticket 😂

BMW6 · 07/05/2019 22:29

I don't normally allow my dog to jump up onto a train seat - the one exception was when the train guard/ticket man invited my dog to jump up opposite me.......

Omzlas · 07/05/2019 23:01

There's a reason the 'dog shelf' is named as such

bowchicapewpew · 07/05/2019 23:11

Yes unecessary. It was low. I read the other day and it stuck.
More for the child haters and how something about dogs become about children.

IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 07/05/2019 23:13

My dog is cleaner than most people. Honestly.

BMW6 · 07/05/2019 23:31

There's a reason the 'dog shelf' is named as such

Never heard of this in all my 60 plus years! Are you suggesting that there is a shelf on trains specifically designated for dogs????

MontStMichel · 08/05/2019 10:38

I was on a train late at night, once when there was somebody wandering around with a beer bottle in one hand, while very drunk - and dripping blood. He dripped blood on my coat - but given the state he was in, I was nervouse about complaining!

A dog on a seat does not bother me, whereas having blood dripped on my coat does!

TheInebriati · 08/05/2019 10:41

People do have to buy tickets for dogs that are too large to fit in a small carrier, but they don't entitle the dog to sit on a seat.

fluorescentorange · 08/05/2019 10:49

BMW6

The dog shelf is the floor!!!
