22 is too cold! And I've got a jumper on.

I know the solution would be to move the thermostat to another position but it's not been one of the most pressing alterations we have planned to make since moving in.

We have a movable thermostat which helps a lot but we still have issues sometimes. Xmas Day last year we had it in the kitchen diner, DH and I were wearing t-shirts while we prepared dinner. The rest of the family (who live in warmer countries) were bundled up in jumpers. I had to move it to the hallway to get the heating comfortable for them.

adriennewillfly · 06/05/2019 10:12

In the winter, I rarely put my Thermostat over 18 degrees, but in spring, i do occasionally put it up to 22, as I get so cold (even with socks and jumpers on).

adriennewillfly · 06/05/2019 10:13

Not it's only for an hour - never more.

PamelaX · 06/05/2019 10:21

you should be comfortable in your own house, put the heating on if you want!

The day people in England will stop using fans and air cons on a summer day pretending they are "fainting due to heat" on what is just a nice and warm day, you can reassess.

It's not just the temperature in this country the problem, it's the humidity.
I always put the heating on in the bathrooms unless it really is hot. No reason for my kids to be in a cold room when they have their bath.

cookiemon666 · 06/05/2019 10:22

I can barely afford to put the heating 9n 8n the winter, mine has been off since March. Thermostat is set at 18

PamelaX · 06/05/2019 10:22

to add, I'd rather live according to the outside temperature, not the calendar months! If it's warm in February, as it was here, heating was off. If it's cold in July, heating on. Much better.

joystir59 · 06/05/2019 10:23

North East coast and ours is never above 18

MsMustDoBetter · 06/05/2019 10:25

We have turned ours off and are wearing extra layers of chilly. Also, blankets on sofas and hot water bottles.

Could you try and lower it to 20? You will get used to a cooler house in no time.

GoodPlaceJanet · 06/05/2019 10:32

DH likes it at 20 I like it at 22 so we settle on 21 when it feels cold.

SD1978 · 06/05/2019 10:35

Mine is usually on at that, sometimes even 25. I despise being cold. Currently in the bedroom and the heater is on- it's 27 degrees and I am comfortable and toasty.

Branleuse · 06/05/2019 10:39

i have mine at 18 or 19. Id be roasting at 23 in the house. Thats bikini temperature

RottnestFerry · 06/05/2019 10:42

Our sis set at 18 year round.

Also why do people turn the thermostat up when it is cold outside? It makes no sense.

littlepeas · 06/05/2019 10:42

I just checked ours and its on 20 - but that is our winter setting, it hasn't been on for more than an hour for ages. I don't like the cold either and will sit right next to fire when it is cold, but it really isn't very cold today - we have windows open and I am only wearing a vest and yoga bottoms! We're in the Midlands.

MumOfOne92 · 06/05/2019 10:44

My heating isn't on and I'm not cold but I'm in a 1st floor flat so I have downstairs heat rising. It's 19 in my flat at the moment.

stucknoue · 06/05/2019 10:51

Mines at 18 but the thermostat is in a colder spot in the house

safariboot · 06/05/2019 10:51

As mentioned the room could be well under (or over) the thermostat setting. Get a thermometer if you want to know the actual room temperature.

DM's house heats unevenly whatever she's tried, with the bathroom being the coldest. Often means turning the thermostat rather high just to be comfortable when you come out the shower.

LoafofSellotape · 06/05/2019 10:57

Also why do people turn the thermostat up when it is cold outside? It makes no sense

Outside temperature affects how cold the house is you daft banana!

LaMarschallin · 06/05/2019 11:07

Are you 70 or over?

I used to make house calls and, if I felt like I was going to pass out from the heat, it was invariably someone of that demographic.

If not have you had your thyroid function checked?

Now, you may be just boasting (look at me in the SE of England with my heating on full blast) but you don't sound as though you are. In which case that doesn't sound appropriate.

Is your thermostat playing up?

cunningartificer · 06/05/2019 11:10

Go out for a brisk walk and when you come back you’ll feel boiling at that temperature—then turn it down

sweetkitty · 06/05/2019 11:16

I think your thermostats probably broken. Saying that I put our heating on for half an hour this morning, I have fibromyalgia and part of that is feeling cold all the time. My muscles literally ache with the cold it’s horrible.

SleepingSloth · 06/05/2019 11:21

It's 9/10 degrees outside here today. Our thermostat said 19 this morning but the house felt freezing. I've put it up to 22 and it feels comfortable now.

PamelaX · 06/05/2019 11:27

why is it acceptable to have threads over threads of posters dying in a heat wave (reaching barely 24 - 25) but someone cannot be cold at 23?

it has never been really HOT in this country, but it didn't' stop people to go into competitive cooling down thread method last summer.

you can equally be cold at 23, why not?

kaytee87 · 06/05/2019 11:33

That's really warm. Mine is 17 day time, 18 evening & 14 overnight.

DulcieRay · 06/05/2019 11:37

I used to Blush actually more like 25 degrees
You could wear a bikini in my house at Christmas
Now I put a jumper and socks on, slippers, blanket and dressing gown too if I need them. Which weirdly I don't as often now. I think I've become used to being cooler

Buddytheelf85 · 06/05/2019 11:43

Do some exercise.
