22 is too cold! And I've got a jumper on.

23 is too hot. 19 is supposed to be the new black.

LoafofSellotape · 06/05/2019 00:22

Surely it depends on your house?

aLilNonnyMouse · 06/05/2019 00:23

I have mine at 23c too. I've got a chronic illness that means I feel a lot of aches and pains when I'm cold, and OH is recovering from chemo - which gives you pins and needles all over when you feel cold.

It also depends on how active around the house you are - if you are always moving 23c will feel like torture, if you tend to sit down for long periods of time then you will get cold at 20c.

goldenchicken · 06/05/2019 00:23

16 C.

Sparklfairy · 06/05/2019 00:27

Heat yourself, not your house. Hot water bottle, decent socks and layers! What a waste.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 06/05/2019 00:30

I'm in Oz, so my blood has got thin. Grin. It was 24 on Saturday and I put the log burner on that night as it got bloody cold. When it drops below 20 here people start breaking out the down jackets, beanies and uggs. So I sympathise!

Bestfootforward1 · 06/05/2019 00:37

Ok, would it be fair for those who feel the cold and those who have joint pain made worse by the cold, to have their thermostat slightly higher if they have tried layers, hot water bottles, star jumps etc. Or should they just sit and feel ill?

Bestfootforward1 · 06/05/2019 00:38

Old people definitely feel the cold more.

NaomifromMilkshake · 06/05/2019 00:42

22 and I boost it every so often.

In my defence I have lost 5 and a half stone on the cancer diet, and I am very scrawny added to which I have just been diagnosed with an underactive thyroid, which explains why I am permanently cold.

In the winter during the day, I wear a thermal top, a jumper, thermal leggings, heavy jeans, two pairs of sock and substantial boots.

I am always cold.

In the evening, when the house is at a constant 22 I change into a different pair of thermal leggings, a pair of leggings, I put flight socks on over the two pairs of socks, I retain my thermal top and jumper. I go downstairs and I put the fire in the garden room on and sit under a blanket whilst huddled up to my DH.

I make no apologies.

Ferfeckssake · 06/05/2019 00:43

We had heating problems and the house always felt cold, even when I turned up thermostat.
Check radiators are all working.
My heating guy said that the temperature on your boiler set the radiators , but thermostat set temp of house.

SleepingSloth · 06/05/2019 00:58

We've had ours on 22 today. I thinks it's been about 8 degrees here and it feels really cold. We've had it on a lot this week.

BlackeyedGruesome · 06/05/2019 01:12

Thermal base layer, warm socks, keep your feet ankles and lower back warm. Save the planet from no return.

Different if you are I'll.

I have a condition that makes me feel the cold but it can be mainly dealt with with layers of clothing. if that does not work then heating is needed. Also for older people.

rededucator · 06/05/2019 01:12

Turned our heating off in March and live in west coast of Scotland. If it's nippy put on a jumper. During winter it's set to 19.

Redglitter · 06/05/2019 01:19

I haven't had my heating on for weeks. My bedroom window is permanently open

Ariela · 06/05/2019 01:21

Blimey you must be sweltering! Not had our heating on for a couple of months, when it is on the thermostat is set at 15 and it rarely comes on: luckily we have a warm house.

Not as efficient as a friend of mine lives in a middle floor flat, she's NEVER used her heating as the people below and either side keep her flat warm enough! It helps that it has thick double glazing too.

justdog · 06/05/2019 01:52

Shit, I was meant to be in bed hours ago...
Downstairs the temp is set to about 15...
I choose to use dog as the heat ninja..

OwlBeThere · 06/05/2019 05:16

This thread is daft. If the OP is cold then she’s cold!

CountFosco · 06/05/2019 05:31

What the thermostat says and what the temperature of the house is can be very different. DM lives in a modern, very well insulated house with ground source underfloor heating (she has a windmill as well!), her thermostat is on one of the cooler rooms that gets less sun and it's set at 16C. It feels more like mid 20s, I wander round her house in shorts and tshirt and get a big shock at how cold it is when I go outside. Our house is an older house with less efficient insulation, our heating is set at 19.5 and it feels pleasant with a jumper and socks on.

ForalltheSaints · 06/05/2019 07:44

Thick slippers and if it is too cold at even 20C, think about how you can improve insulation and cut out drafts.

How old is your boiler (if you have water filled radiators)- an old one may not distribute the heat well?

OVAgroundWOMBlingfree · 06/05/2019 07:45

YABU unless you want to buy SPF 3000 for your grandchildren.

babyvans · 06/05/2019 08:24

19 here mayyybe 19.5 if I've been stationary for too long

WhoAteMyNuts · 06/05/2019 08:36

I think there are people who are happy for everyone else to suffer feeling cold because they don't feel it in the same way.

Then there are others that prefer to walk around wrapped up like they are outside to save money/planet or another reason and think everyone should do the same as them.

Then there are others (myself included) that do not want to be dressed as if they are outside who will put the heating up to whatever it needs to be to feel comfortable.

Feeling cold almost feels painful to me so I have no reservations in making my home a comfortable temperature.

Aquathest · 06/05/2019 09:09

Mines on 25 because my thermostat is situated in one of the warmest parts of my home and as some PPs have said, the thermostat level doesn't necessarily dictate that all of the house is actually the same temperature on the thermostat.

Any lower than 25 and my thermostat turns the heating off when most of the house feels like 17 degrees.

I know the solution would be to move the thermostat to another position but it's not been one of the most pressing alterations we have planned to make since moving in.

LoafofSellotape · 06/05/2019 09:24

I've got the heating on this morning,my nose was cold in bed this morning and I had pajamas and a winter duvet! It feels like winter here again today and yes,I am wearing a jumper etc.

Theoldwoman · 06/05/2019 10:03

We have our heater set at 18. Were told it wears out faster any higher. It seems comfortable enough.
