Mrs Hinch....perfect prep :-(

I feel so angry with Tommee Tippee that they've "gifted" her a perfect prep machine. Completely undermines her wish if she wants to breast feed. Plus she's such an influencer how much will this reduce our national breast feeding rates? Pregnant women will go and buy one just because she has one and not give themselves a chance to breastfeed Angry

But just because your child didn't get life threatening gastroenteritis at two weeks of age, doesn't make them safe

I agree with this!
It’s the same logic applied to a lot of incidents of going against NHS guidelines ‘well my baby turned out ok’ or ‘my friends all did it and their babies are fine’ going against guidelines doesn’t automatically mean the worst WILL happen - just increases the odds.

WithAllIntenseAndPurposes · 07/05/2019 08:25

'Life threatening gastroenteritis' for a bottle fed baby who has feeds made up correctly would be astonishingly rare though.
Bit like those scrawny bf babies who lose half of their body weight you hear of on here
Please stop scaremongering

hsegfiugseskufh · 07/05/2019 09:08

well any baby could get gastro no matter how its fed, but if its made properly and you shake the hot water to make sure all the milk powder is covered, I can imagine its v rare. Probably just as rare as babies getting gastro from formula made with a kettle.

and to the "whats wrong with a kettle" well, nothing is inherently wrong with a kettle but when you've a tiny baby screaming in the middle of the night for a bottle, I'd much rather have a perfect prep and have a bottle made at the perfect temp in 2 mins, than be stood round for half hour rinsing a bottle under a cold tap whilst my baby gets more and more distressed.

*Because I've seen the black mould for myself

Youve not seen mould youve seen carbon, and if you have seen it then the machine you saw either had an incorrect filter or was not cleaned properly!*

Well the good news for all the perfect prep lovers out there is that the Hinchmeister will do doubt be demonstrating how to clean the perfect prep on a regular basis. If you need any ideas. My money is on Zofloraing the shit out of it but she might surprise us all.

hsegfiugseskufh · 07/05/2019 10:40

yack I wouldn't put zoflora near anything I was going to eat out of.

I used a Milton tablet.

Maybe those will be her new thing!

UnPocoLoco2 · 09/05/2019 17:21

I'm sure mrs hinch is a nice lady but saturating your home in chemicals does not mean it is clean. I mostly use a bit of washing up liquid, opening the window and some elbow grease.

pikapikachu · 09/05/2019 22:20

Elbow Grease is an actual cleaning product

Mrs Hinch....perfect prep :-(
UnPocoLoco2 · 10/05/2019 01:05

@pikapikachu I like this

LimeKiwi · 10/05/2019 08:47

I'd never heard of Elbow Grease before Mrs H, it's brilliant stuff!

Sparklingbrook · 10/05/2019 09:44

YY it's really good. I think it was 99p or something too.

MariaNovella · 10/05/2019 09:53

The kids are still going to end up in McDonalds and KFC as teenagers regardless of how they were fed.

No. Children who are brought up on breast milk and a wide variety of fresh foods do not develop a taste for the overly sweet, overly salty and too fatty industrialised and fast food. Read Bee Wilson.

Hollowvictory · 10/05/2019 09:54

^ funny 😂🤣😂🤣

UnPocoLoco2 · 10/05/2019 10:37

@MariaNovella yeah because kids don't follow the crowd and go with what their mates like 🙄🙄🙄
Everybody has a craving for salty, sweet and fatty foods. They are so addictive because in nature we get either sugary and sweet ( a lot of fruits like grapes and breast milk) salty (such as olives) or fatty ( nuts , avocados) as separate foods. When we mix them together ( kfc , ice cream and all that rubbish) the brain and body goes ape 🦍 shit and gets a drug high. They are not mixed together in nature.
Breasts fed kids and those given the best quality of foods available are no more saintly than the rest of us. It is human nature. So do not believe the gospel according to bee 🐝.

londonloves · 10/05/2019 10:45

It's also possible that formula fed babies might be fed fresh healthy food as well. Just FYI.

MariaNovella · 10/05/2019 10:50

My DD is 14 and she never, ever goes to McDonald’s or any other fast food joint...

UnPocoLoco2 · 10/05/2019 10:50

@londonloves very true. My own formula fed kids are perfectly healthy and are not obese balls of flab with a life expectancy of age 3. They all eat very well.

UnPocoLoco2 · 10/05/2019 10:50

@MariaNovella at some point she will.

Hollowvictory · 10/05/2019 10:51

I was breast fed. I like macdonalds.
There is no link to whet your baby is ff or bf and whether they like fast food. That's hilarious.

MariaNovella · 10/05/2019 10:52

No she won’t. She was taken to McD a couple of times when in summer camp when she was 7/8 and she speaks of it with horror!

NewAccount270219 · 10/05/2019 10:53

Grin I've read Bee Wilson. She talks about ways to try and edge children towards healthier foods through weaning and beyond. She doesn't promise they'll never like unhealthy foods if you breastfeed and give them healthy food at home, because she's not an idiot. If your one child that you're taking as evidence of this doesn't like fast food then that's as much luck as it is your amazing parenting.

BettyJune07 · 10/05/2019 10:59

Mrs Hinch had a DVT which required a stent being fitted so must've been a big one, she's most probably on blood thinners now for life, I speak from experience as I've had the same. You cant breastfeed on blood thinners due to something in the tablets. Unfollowed her months ago, thought she would have had her baby by now!

Sagradafamiliar · 10/05/2019 11:10

Maria I read your post as satire 😂 is your DD more of a subway gal then?
I was breastfed but you should have seen the shit I ate as a student! And now! I have a balanced diet.
My children were mainly formula fed but can't get enough of healthy food made from scratch, sushi, avocado everything and a good old KFC.
I'm off for a maccy Ds before I pick my youngest up from nursery. Fries and milkshake mmmm. Then I might swing by on the way home and get him a happy meal. It's only food :)

UnPocoLoco2 · 10/05/2019 11:10

@MariaNovella of course she will. You're comment reminds me of my former self. I used to be a food snob too but learnt to relax and pick my battles. We eat really good on a budget with the odd treat thrown in for food measure

UnPocoLoco2 · 10/05/2019 11:13

@MariaNovella depending on your circumstance (urban/ rural, rich / poor and so forth) perhaps she has not yet has a lot of opportunity, for example I was not eating fast food at 14 because I lived in the back of nowhere and did not yet drive.
At some point she will be with mates ( or maybe working an office job with low pay and want a quick cheap lunch) and will be guided by them or low prices. It's inevitable that someday she will be her own woman capable of doing her own thing and out from under the thumb of mum ( and dad too of course)

DontVisitMe · 10/05/2019 11:18

Oh the absolute HORROR of McDonald's!
