Mrs Hinch....perfect prep :-(

I feel so angry with Tommee Tippee that they've "gifted" her a perfect prep machine. Completely undermines her wish if she wants to breast feed. Plus she's such an influencer how much will this reduce our national breast feeding rates? Pregnant women will go and buy one just because she has one and not give themselves a chance to breastfeed Angry

Well you continued to do something you didnt enjoy which you found hard so you clearly found more importance in the way you fed your baby than the effect it had on you.

True.

It's not a criticism it was just your choice which is fine. For me how i felt was more important than my baby being bf. Doesnt mean i dont care about my baby.

Also true.

Mrsjayy · 06/05/2019 16:53

Yes i do think women are treated appaulingly sometimes I bottle fed on demand i thought my HV was goi g to faint she kept going on about the waste of milk Hmm

Poloshot · 06/05/2019 16:59

Fair play. Perfect preps are great, mind your own business.

LimeKiwi · 06/05/2019 17:45

Exactly PlantParrotPot

gluteustothemaximus · 06/05/2019 18:12

Mrsjayy that's crazy, not to mention insensitive. All experience with HV's have been pretty crap IME.

ethelfleda · 06/05/2019 20:23

Incidentally, how much training do HV’s receive?? Their advice often seems outdated.
Conversely, mine told me to breastfeed every 3 - 4 hours at the beginning. He didn’t go that long between feeds until we were well into weaning!

Offredismysister · 06/05/2019 20:33

Some HV’s are midwives first so they should have extensive feeding knowledge.
Some HV’s are general or mental health nurses first so may have limited knowledge on feeding. I know on the HV degree course it used to be only 2 days of infant feeding training Hmm
Someone has tweeted Mrs Hinch & she has confirmed she is unable to breastfeed due to medical reasons.

HBStowe · 06/05/2019 21:01

Mrs Hinch posted today that she wants to breastfeed if she can, but that because of medication she takes for a long term health issue she may not be able to.

Just seems a shame that a first time mum with health issues is being shamed online because she might not be able to breastfeed.

I also think if she had come on here anonymously looking for advice she would (rightly) have been told that fed is best, and she shouldn’t beat herself up if a medical issue means she can’t breastfeed.

ethelfleda · 06/05/2019 21:03

Has anyone on this thread actually shamed her for choosing to ff though? Or are the actually saying that it’s a questionable way for tommee tippie to get around advertising laws?

GunpowderGelatine · 06/05/2019 21:03

Oh come on, she isn't being shamed because she is on the dance about breastfeeding, some people are questioning her morals at touting dodgy products for dodgy companies. I'm really not into this "she's a mummy therefore any choices can never be questioned" - she is publiclly supporting a controversial product, she is bound to get flack for it, I'm sure she's a big girl and can take it (and the ££££ will certainly help stem the blow of being "shamed")

GunpowderGelatine · 06/05/2019 21:04

*fence, not dance 🤦🏼‍♀️

LimeKiwi · 06/05/2019 21:05

I'm sure her stories said she'd been gifted it. That doesn't automatically mean she's got loads of pounds for it.
Some people really are clueless. If it's gifted it can mean literally that - you got it as a gift! Not paid Megabucks as well.

GunpowderGelatine · 06/05/2019 21:06

Don't be naive Lime of course she's being paid through the nose for it

LimeKiwi · 06/05/2019 21:15

You do realise that if you mark something as a gift on your platform - it can be just that, a gift?
You seem to be under the impression that gifted means paid money for as well.
Errm, no.

hsegfiugseskufh · 06/05/2019 21:26

Well i say good for her if shes getting paid for it. TT are not a formula company. Theyre not breaking any laws, and its not a dodgy product.

Its the single best thing i bought when i had Ds. No harm came to him. Its never going to be reccomended by the nhs because that would make ff easier which they obviously dont want to do but that in itself doesnt make it dodgy.

TT seem to be doing a lot of advertising with mummy bloggers atm but honestly i dont think this will make mothers who want to bf change their minds. It will maybe make mothers who plan on ff think fuck i need one of them, which is the point of the advert and of no detriment to anyone.

gluteustothemaximus · 06/05/2019 22:07

Incidentally, how much training do HV’s receive?? Their advice often seems outdated.
Conversely, mine told me to breastfeed every 3 - 4 hours at the beginning.

Same here. Poor DS. He was starving. Ended up feeding on demand (as I should have done) and lied to the HV when she asked if he was feeding every 4 hours. Crazy.

livinglavidavillanelle · 06/05/2019 23:19

Why are they awful? Because I've seen the black mould for myself, abs it's scary. It's not in them all, that's true. And TT will argue till they're blue in the face that they are safe . But concerns have been raised by a lot of people about the black crap in the pipes/filter.

Look, I'm not saying that they're not useful for some mums. But just because your child didn't get life threatening gastroenteritis at two weeks of age, doesn't make them safe. That is why health professionals don't recommend them, it's not to do with promoting formula feeding. What's wrong with a kettle? At least until the baby is a bit older and stronger? I'm not bashing mums that choose to use it, I just have legitimate concerns about its safety.

livinglavidavillanelle · 06/05/2019 23:21

And no, a gifted item does NOT mean that she's paid money. She is just somewhat obligated to share pictures/ videos to promote whatever she's received on IG. That's very different to a paid collaboration.

WithAllIntenseAndPurposes · 06/05/2019 23:35

Tomee tipee are shits for this though. I ordered a tube of lansinoh (for sore nipples) so clearly a product for a breastfeeding woman struggling with latch and in the packet they’d sent a tomee tipee bottle! I was raging. Talk about trying to undermine a woman’s choices. If id ordered alcohol free beer I wouldn’t expect to be sent a sample of alcoholic or a pair of red shoes and be sent blue.

Wow I'd love to have your life if a bottle makes you 'raging'
I hope you burnt it immediately

SweatyUnderboob · 06/05/2019 23:35

She charges around £10k for a feature on an Insta story, however.

TinyGhostWriter · 06/05/2019 23:37

Are you sure she doesn’t get paid to advertise?

I would think that the biggest PR issue the prep machines have is that they have a bad reputation for mould. Tommy Tippe will have a large budget for advertising/ PR.

It would be perfect for their reputation to work with Mrs Hinch. That sort of positive promotion could be worth 6 figures.

LimeKiwi · 06/05/2019 23:45

Exactly that @livinglavidavillanelle.
Gifted means you mark it as such and just show it on your stories.
Sweatyunderboob - you say that as fact. How do you know how much she does or doesn't charge for a feature on her Insta story? Confused

gluteustothemaximus · 06/05/2019 23:51

She charges around £10k for a feature on an Insta story, however

Shock

No wonder there's a tonne of copycats.

hsegfiugseskufh · 07/05/2019 07:13

Because I've seen the black mould for myself

Youve not seen mould youve seen carbon, and if you have seen it then the machine you saw either had an incorrect filter or was not cleaned properly!

CSIblonde · 07/05/2019 07:29

Who cares about a cleaning obsessed woman who obviously has a lot of time on her hands. And, FWIW, psychologically, excessive cleaning is often linked to expiating unaddressed guilt.
