Not knowing much, but you could ask them why if they are approachable.
Otherwise report to local police, they both trespassed and vandalised and caused harm to any birds and wildlife.
Would speak to local council .
If you want get them to replace it.

treeless · 05/05/2019 18:00

I posted on the app. He had a saw and our tree is in his front garden piled up! He is acting as though he's chopped down his own tree...Confused

OMG! You need to knock on their door and ask why they have done that!

And then they need to replace it

ahtellthee · 05/05/2019 18:00

Oops, cross post.

Have you told him about his mistake?

LotsToThinkOf · 05/05/2019 18:01

I can see the picture, there's no way that was a mistake regarding it being their own! I'd be round there playing merry hell right now.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 05/05/2019 18:03

OP's picture from the app.

Neighbours have chopped our tree down
MiddleClassProblem · 05/05/2019 18:04
Shock
HotSauceCommittee · 05/05/2019 18:06

I’d have been round to give them a serious bollocking and the bill for a replacement.
Haven’t you spoken to them about it?

JaynePoole · 05/05/2019 18:08

He is acting as though he's chopped down his own tree...

In what way? Have you spoken to him??

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 05/05/2019 18:08

So what did he say?

GreenTulips · 05/05/2019 18:09

If they are remnants they aren’t the owners of the tree anyway

What did you say

TheNoodlesIncident · 05/05/2019 18:11

Are you going to speak to them about this at all? I can see a lot of branches would be overhanging their garden, but they don't have the right to cut it at the base like that. What did you say when he was acting like he'd cut his own landlord's tree?

(Thank you for reposting photo MilkTwoSugars)

FedUpParent · 05/05/2019 18:11

Genuinely shocked after seeing the photo, I’d be absolutely furious and billing them... then putting it towards your new drive Smile

CitadelsofScience · 05/05/2019 18:13

So it's not like they didn't know where the boundary is looking at that pic Confused

GertrudeCB · 05/05/2019 18:14

Have you actually spoken to them yet?

diddl · 05/05/2019 18:14

"He is acting as though he's chopped down his own tree..."

Blimey!

Perhaps you should go & sit in his house & tell him you thought it was yours...

PJMasksAreOnTheirWay · 05/05/2019 18:14

Have you not asked them wtf they think they’ve been doing??

sawyersfishbiscuits · 05/05/2019 18:14

Bloody hell OP. You've got to say something. We have exact same border and tree situation here.

The new tenants next door said 'do you mind us doing something about the trees?' last week. I said well I put my twinkly lights on then st Christmas but you can trim the tatty bits if you like' or get rid of your effing dandelions

I hope this doesn't happen to us!

Hotterthanahotthing · 05/05/2019 18:17

Make them at least take out all the roots.Plant something like a silver birch to replace. You can trim the lower branches as it grows so you have a high canopy which won't interfere with a drive.
You could go mad and plant several!

Dippypippy1980 · 05/05/2019 18:20

Could someone on the app take a screen shot?? I am hooked on this one

Dippypippy1980 · 05/05/2019 18:21

Oops cross post

florence11 · 05/05/2019 18:22

Also hooked. I mean Shock

AfterSchoolWorry · 05/05/2019 18:23

Ask him wtf!?

MiddleClassProblem · 05/05/2019 18:24

I’d go round and be (because I’m a wuss) “I think there’s been a mistake. The tree you chopped down is actually on our side”

treeless · 05/05/2019 18:25

I haven't spoken to them about it yet. Will have a chat with partner later when kids go to sleep and I have a read through of the thread again. I have no idea what the tree (or maybe it was a bush that looked a bit like a tree?) is called. I'll post a pic.
