More of a wwyd as know I'm not being unreasonable...neighbour in terrace next to ours have chopped our tree down! It's clearly on our driveway and not theirs. Speechless!

Hi, I can see picture in post, not sure why others can't. Will try again.

They've never complained about it before

ColdNeverBotheredMeAnyway · 05/05/2019 17:23

It's odd - is there any way that they were mistaken and thought it was on their land?

Greyponcho · 05/05/2019 17:25

Can’t cut trees in bird nesting season unless it has been checked properly for nesting birds first. Unless theres a TPO on it, then in theory it should be untouchable without council permission.
Ordinary trees - if the branches are hanging on your side of the boundary line, then you can trim them but must return the trimmed pieces to the owner.
But what fuckwit doesn’t actually speak to their neighbour first?!?

MsJaneAusten · 05/05/2019 17:30

Have you spoken to them about it?

(I can’t see picture either)

Dippypippy1980 · 05/05/2019 17:31

Have you called round to see them?

Greyponcho · 05/05/2019 17:31

Although speaking to neighbour first doesn’t always help - asked neighbour (as we had newly moved in) if they minded me cutting back the monstrous mass of mile-a-minute along the boundary, that had been neglected and left to run wild for the several months our property was empty before we purchased it. They lent me the tools to do it, then were aghast that I actually went ahead and cut in on our side Hmm Confused
They then told my DP that he needed to “control his wife” Angry

Poppyinafieldofdreams · 05/05/2019 17:37

Our nightmare neighbour did this whilst we were on holiday. When DH went around to ask her why, she started screaming and swearing at us both. She has had similar with the neighbours on the other side.

There are awful people about and there are a lot of them. We do not want anything to do with neighbours ever again.

You need evidence of any damage to support a civil or court case. If you do have to talk with your neighbour you must obtain evidence to back up a court case.

On a more general note how do the rest of you approach the neighbour problem. Both of us avoid interacting with neighbours. We used to have good neighbours but now they are awful and we avoid.

This is the norm now it seems.

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 05/05/2019 17:37

No picture.

m4rdybum · 05/05/2019 17:37

Shamelessly placemarking and getting out the popcorn.

MountainEagle · 05/05/2019 17:37

If they are tenants there’s no way it was their tree. If it wasn’t OP’s tree it would belong to their landlord.

RosaWaiting · 05/05/2019 17:38

if they are tenants then the landlord might be responsible for what has happened?

Dippypippy1980 · 05/05/2019 17:38

Greyponcho I really don’t understand why people think they have the right to grow things into their neighbours garden.

My neighbours trees hit my house, but she goes ballistic if I trim them.

treeless · 05/05/2019 17:45

If they wanted to trim it back if it was encroaching on their side, then fair enough. At some point we were going to turn the garden into a driveway as parking is becoming difficult in our road. It may be that we would have had to lose the tree anyway at some point in the future. I'm just v taken aback.
Is there anyone who can see the picture? I can see it in both posts.

OP posts:
Dippypippy1980 · 05/05/2019 17:47

No pictures showing.

Your neighbours have totally crossed the line - are you sure it was them? Could they think it was their tree?

Tara336 · 05/05/2019 17:48

@Poppyinafieldofdreams we have a lovely neighbour one side, but the other side is a nightmare! She’s never spoken to me since we bought the place two years ago, probably because she knows not to bother after she called the police over a pile of sand on our drive (I kid you not). Turns out she has a bit of a reputation in the neighbourhood and has fallen out with just about everybody as she seems to think the world should fit in with her and what she wants or doesn’t want

bettyblueeyes83 · 05/05/2019 17:50

I can see both pictures! Am on the app and can always see them when others post that they can't - no idea why.

Sorry about your tree Angry

Puzzledandpissedoff · 05/05/2019 17:50

Can I ask how you know it was them?

Not doubting you of course, but just wondered ...

DerelictWreck · 05/05/2019 17:51

If you post pictures via the app, then only people using the app can see them. I think...

Kedgeree · 05/05/2019 17:51

When you say "tree", what exactly do you mean? Mature oak, plane, sycamore, beech, horse chestnut, ash, etc? Or some sort of ornamental acer, shrub, willow? They shouldn't have cut down anything of course and YANBU, but we need to understand the scale as you say some of it was going in your garden recycling bin, which to me suggests "bush" or "shrub" rather than tree as such.

AfterSchoolWorry · 05/05/2019 17:51

This is nearly as bonkers at the other thread where the neighbours planted things in the OP's garden.

JaynePoole · 05/05/2019 17:55

Have I missed your answer to this question, are you going to go and talk to your neighbours about this??

I would be fuming about the tree. So they never discussed the tree or cutting it down?

SourPineApple · 05/05/2019 17:59
