Take photos especially if they have left the tree on your land or theirs

IsYourGoogleBroken · 05/05/2019 14:27

"""Get a quote for having it replaced - I'd imagine that would be tens of thousands. Send them a copy of quote asking them to pay. When they refuse go to small claims court."

For the love of God - that as advice is awful on her - you cant use the small claims court, that is for money owed

www.gov.uk/make-court-claim-for-money

tens of thousand ? what are your trees? solid gold , encrusted with diamonds? A mature tree of 6 metres is around 3K

QOD · 05/05/2019 14:28

Or as I said before autocorrect bloody corrected it

Wtaf?

RubberTreePlant · 05/05/2019 14:28

That makes more sense @QOD Grin

I was trying to picture a tree-cutting stag do.

Alsohuman · 05/05/2019 14:30

I’d want it replaced like for like. And I’d use everything in my power to make them do it.

IggyAce · 05/05/2019 14:32

Definitely contact the police it’s an offence to disturb nesting birds. I would definitely want it replacing.

EleanorReally · 05/05/2019 14:34

is it damaging their house via its roots?

Likethebattle · 05/05/2019 14:35

Pretty sure they have broken the law.

gamerchick · 05/05/2019 14:36

Police, scare the crap out of them.

Someone cut down a tree in our street that was in the middle of 2 drives. Man, was the council mad as hell. Police, leaflets about the crime through the door hunting for the persons responsible.qq

dreichuplands · 05/05/2019 14:36

I would talk to them first to establish what they did and why if possible.
Then I would contact the police to get a crime number.
Then I would use the legal advice on your home insurance to see how to get them to fund the replacement tree.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 05/05/2019 14:37

Did they dispose of the tree?!

SayItLoud1 · 05/05/2019 14:39

I’d be mad as hell about this but first do you have proof?

notapizzaeater · 05/05/2019 14:43

How do you know it was them ? Have they mentioned the tree before?

PushkarKali · 05/05/2019 14:47

Criminal damage, surely?

EleanorReally · 05/05/2019 14:48

where is op?

regmover · 05/05/2019 14:55

"Where is op?" - well Op posted less than an hour ago. Maybe they are next door having a chat. Maybe they have a life.

EleanorReally · 05/05/2019 15:02

their life should be here, updating
not just post and run Confused

regmover · 05/05/2019 15:05

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 05/05/2019 15:10

Police, insurance and small claims court seems a good plan to me, but I’m not an expert.

Your neighbours are twats, but you know that already.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 05/05/2019 15:11
Shock
ChardonnaysPrettySister · 05/05/2019 15:15

I hope OP is in Scotland then.

The only comfort I can offer is that you will have to bear these things in mind should they ever ask a favour from you

This must come from a Nobel Peace Prize Winner.

Dippypippy1980 · 05/05/2019 15:21

I once trimmed some overhanging branches is my neighbours trees and another neighbour started shouting at me for cutting down a tree that want mine,

Have hey actually cut the truck of the tree? If so they have broken the law - by trespassing and destroying your property.

Knock on their door and ask them to explain themselves, give them the opportunity to put it right, and explain you will have to contact the police of it isn’t sorted.

RubberTreePlant · 05/05/2019 15:22

Can someone with drawing skills please do an "artist's impression" of the arboreal crime scene to keep us going until the photos arrive? Sad

Zebraantelopegiraffe · 05/05/2019 15:24

I would be devastated if someone cut my tree down

Isohungy · 05/05/2019 15:26
