More of a wwyd as know I'm not being unreasonable...neighbour in terrace next to ours have chopped our tree down! It's clearly on our driveway and not theirs. Speechless!

"Can I take your email address please?"
For what?
"So I can email you some websites that sell mature trees, to replace the one of ours that you've chopped down, you utter cockface"

And finish with a sharp jab to the eye

Wanker

Fedupflo · 05/05/2019 18:27

Is that a tree? Looks like a shrub to me. How big was it? What was it? It'll very likely grow back. If you feed and water it, it shouldn't take too long and you can get it to a shape you want. Depending on what it is, the regrowth could be quicker and easier than getting it replaced because the roots are established.

Fedupflo · 05/05/2019 18:29

I would still create holy hell so that he doesn't lay a finger on your property again though.

grumiosmum · 05/05/2019 18:30

Looks more like a large shrub than a tree, from the pic I've seen.

Either way, it's outrageous!

notapizzaeater · 05/05/2019 18:32

Doesn't Matt what it is, neighbours can't just chop things down in your garden

Fedupflo · 05/05/2019 18:32

No one is saying they canHmm

treeless · 05/05/2019 18:32

I have a v poor pic of tree/bush in situ and a pic of it in neighbour's garden.

See if you can get them posted and we'll try to work out what it is.

I had a neighbour try this with a lilac bush that threw a shadow over his hot tub. Thankfully he'd only just started when I caught him. I went nuts. He won't dare touch it again.

TheTreeHearsYourSecret · 05/05/2019 18:37

The pic takes about a minute to appear, I am not using the app.

Do you have any before photos? What type of tree was it?

It is nesting season, can't believe anyone is hard pruning or tree cutting. We have birds in our garden at this very moment collecting nesting materials, it is adorable.

Offallycheap · 05/05/2019 18:37

I wonder is the neighbour a bit hard of thinking, and has assumed that your garden ends level with the boundary?

I have expertly annotated your picture to demonstrate.

I'll be back on again later. I need to go and do bath and bed etc with kids.

If the neighbour is a tenant your first port of call can/should be the landlord as they should be asking for his permission to cut down trees if they think that they are in their garden. It might be that they haven't bothered to ask about anything so they are in trouble there too, as presumably the landlord would have said that it's not his/her tree to cut down.

If the neighbour has been given carte blanche to do anything they want and this is the result, that's another conversation that needs to be had.

Do you know who the property owner is, or the lettings agency if there's one involved?

Harebellsies · 05/05/2019 18:43

I hate people like this. What bastards.

Fedupflo · 05/05/2019 18:44

There are a couple of things it could be from that photo. Is it evergreen? Is there any chance you could take a close up of the end of a branch with leaves and flowers on?

WhatchaMaCalllit · 05/05/2019 18:48

That's unreal @treeless.

You will have to say something to the neighbours about it. Fair enough that they wanted to do some gardening in their garden but they must be told where their garden begins and ends and where yours begins. This plant (by the photo of the chopped down plant it looks to me like a Red Robin but I'm open to correction) needs to be replaced by them and they need to dispose of the cuttings they made. It shouldn't go into your bin at all, as they are at fault here.

I do hope that when you've spoken with your partner that you're both of the opinion that they need to be set straight about the boundary line at the very least and perhaps that they need to sort out a replacement plant (and gardening costs - getting rid of the root system of this plant and putting the new one in place) at their own cost.

Best of luck with this.

JumpJockey · 05/05/2019 18:53

It looks like a photinia as they’re in blossom at the moment, did it have red leaves?

BillyBusStop · 05/05/2019 18:55

I don't get it because the tree appears to be in the 'fair game' area Blush

BillyBusStop · 05/05/2019 18:56

Ah, now I get it...Grin

Bringbackthestripes · 05/05/2019 19:06

I can’t believe you didn’t say “why have you chopped my tree down?”.
I also can’t believe they have taken it upon themselves to do it. I’m not seeing how they thought it was theirs from the photo of the boundary- what am I missing?

Dippypippy1980 · 05/05/2019 19:12

My aggressive neighbour would have killed me on the spot😂😂

I trimmed three inches off some overhanging branches as she went ape. I didn’t even go to the boundary.

You really need to speak to the neighbours or they will think they have free rein.

Username321 · 05/05/2019 19:14

Wow I would be furious!

JosephineHass · 05/05/2019 19:15

What kind of tree was it?
Unreasonable in anyway, no doubt about that.😮
I would definitely ask them what's going on and how they figure out that they can freely do this and want replacement for it.

Hairyheadphones · 05/05/2019 19:17

I’d be so angry!
