More of a wwyd as know I'm not being unreasonable...neighbour in terrace next to ours have chopped our tree down! It's clearly on our driveway and not theirs. Speechless!

Can someone with drawing skills please do an "artist's impression" of the arboreal crime scene to keep us going until the photos arrive?

@NicoAndTheNiners ! 😍😘

That really conveys the full violence! Beautiful!

RubberTreePlant · 05/05/2019 15:30

That axeman has a really arrogant expression, too.

EleanorReally · 05/05/2019 15:32

scared for the op now

bellabasset · 05/05/2019 15:36

We need to know more OP.

Slicedpineapple · 05/05/2019 15:37

Was it leaning over on to their drive at all? We have cut a neighbouring tree back because it was blocking our view when reversing out of our drive (as it had come on to our side) but wouldn't ever chop down somebody else's tree! Was it definitely them?

cleanasawhistle · 05/05/2019 15:40

I knew my MIL before I got with my OH.
She was a visitor at the house next door to me.

When I started dating her son she would pop in on her way past to the neighbers houe.

MIL mentioned the small tree in my garden being horrible. I said oh I quite like it....heard a noise in my garden one day and there is future MIL in my garden sawing my tree down. I was too gob smacked to say anyhing lol.

A few years later when me and OH got a place together she would turn up with gardening stuff and say she had come to chop things back.....OH was told to follow her and spervise.

LilBoaty · 05/05/2019 15:40

I want to know more details too. 👀👀👀

Osquito · 05/05/2019 15:45

clean That is one of the strangest MIL stories I’ve read on here

strawberrisc · 05/05/2019 15:50

If it was an absolute nuisance (blocking light/roots causing damage) it’s probably quicker and cheaper than trawling through the courts.

Tavannach · 05/05/2019 15:51

I'd call the police on 101 and ask their advice, because that's just weird behaviour. I'd expect the tree to be replaced like for like. As the tree had monetary value I think you could take them to court if they don't replace it.

cleanasawhistle · 05/05/2019 15:52

OSQUITO...think I have posted it before on here....but its true lol

...I could write some tales about her and also an ex friend of mine but I dont think anyone would believe them Grin

SevenSeasofRye · 05/05/2019 15:54

My neighbours have two yew trees planted on the fence line and one of them is already pretty big with branches growing across into our garden. They are strange people, hardly go out and curtains always drawn. Their garden is in shade because of all the trees, they have another planted so it blocks the light in our kitchen. We haven't been here long and already I am fantasising about chopping them down . We are trying to psyche ourselves up to have the 'conversation' but dread them refusing. It is really stressing me out. I can't understand why someone would plant Yew trees on a fence line .

Curiousdad18 · 05/05/2019 15:54

Your MIL and my DM would get on like a house on fire! DM has form for trimming (down to stumps) in my garden when we are out / on holiday etc

ControversialFerret · 05/05/2019 16:05

I'd go mad. I have a lot of trees in my (large) garden. They are well looked after and the tree surgeons come round when needed, to maintain and deadwood them.

I know one of my neighbours doesn't like the trees that are on the border between my house and hers. But as the trees are extremely large and mature, and her house is only 10 years old, I'm not that sympathetic as they were this bloody big and obvious when she decided to buy here!

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 05/05/2019 16:17

More information please.

treeless · 05/05/2019 16:23

Sorry, at a kids party at the moment. Didn't expect so many responses. Thanks. Will read when I get home.

Why did you move there if you hated the neighbour's trees, SevenSeasofRye, you say you haven't been there long.

Presumably the trees were there log before you came.

ColdNeverBotheredMeAnyway · 05/05/2019 16:36

Oh I love a bonkers tree neighbour story!

PotsOfJoy · 05/05/2019 16:39

Pic of the tree please.

EleanorReally · 05/05/2019 16:43

Op is busy Shock

CitadelsofScience · 05/05/2019 16:44

We've planted a tree today, I'm hoping my neighbours don't get pissed offhand chop it down, we've been nursing it and potting it on for quite a while ready to go in the garden.

Slicedpineapple · 05/05/2019 16:48

You can cut down any bits that cross over on to your side without an issue or conversation. DPs have a bit of banking next to their house - part of it was turned into a drive and the rest stayed banking. The new neighbours thought it was theirs and planted loads of stuff without asking. Annoyed DPs somewhat but they didn't do anything about it as they don't use that bit themselves and assumed the neighbours would maintain it. Wrong!
DF has since attacked it all with shears.
