still refer to adult child's room by name of child when referring to that room even after they have left 20 or more years earlier???

Ie. Bob's bedroom

TinselAndKnickers · 04/05/2019 18:09

I don't think it's weird at all!

Sparklingbrook · 04/05/2019 18:11

That's normal. Just indicates which bedroom they are talking about I think.

howwudufeel · 04/05/2019 18:12

That’s not weird at all.

RaffertyFair · 04/05/2019 18:13

Doesn't strike me as odd at all.

BogglesGoggles · 04/05/2019 18:14

Growing up, one of the rooms in our house was the ‘big’ room. Just one of those things. Otherwise you end up calling it bedroom 2 or that bedroom on the top flier that’s closest to the stairs on the right hand side (clearly we need more children).

swampytiggaa · 04/05/2019 18:15

My mom still refers to ‘dad’s wardrobe’ and ‘dad’s drawer’ and he died in 1978.

We all know exactly what she means tho...

IHateUncleJamie · 04/05/2019 18:16

Not weird at all. Confused

MsSquiz · 04/05/2019 18:16

Ha, then you'd definitely think me and DH are weird!

In our last house, we bought it from a family whose son was called Freddie, what was his bedroom became our guest bedroom. For the 3 years we lived there, we called it "Freddie's room" not guest room or spare room! Blush

AlunWynsKnee · 04/05/2019 18:19

Not weird at all. My parents still refer to my old bedroom as mine and so do I. I haven't lived there for almost 30 years.

RedRiverShore · 04/05/2019 18:19

DH asked me why I still call it DS bedroom as he had left home and I said it was so we knew which room I was talking about. I would not class myself as elderly though

Nonnymum · 04/05/2019 18:20

It's not odd I do it. Many people with adult children do

RaffertyFair · 04/05/2019 18:21

I'm trying to imagine what OP might use instead Hmm
"The blue room" perhaps ..Genuinely interested

SerenDippitty · 04/05/2019 18:24

I don’t think it’s weird. A certain room in my childhood home was still referred to as the playroom long after we’d grown up and it had ceased to be used as such.

EdWinchester · 04/05/2019 18:24

My parents do this. But only to my room - I am one of 4!

They have kept my bedroom as a shrine - it's like I just went out.

I left home for the last time in 1995. Confused

SweetMarmalade · 04/05/2019 18:26

Not odd at all Confused

RaffertyFair · 04/05/2019 18:27

They have kept my bedroom as a shrine - it's like I just went out

Now that is weird!

Laiste · 04/05/2019 18:28

I don't find it weird. If you've got more than one bedroom you have to describe them somehow. It's probably habit too. Spend 20 years calling a room a certain thing and it sticks.

We're describing our bedrooms by who's going to be sleeping in them - we haven't finished building them yet! Grin

EskeewdBeef · 04/05/2019 18:28

No, not weird. An easy and brief way to describe a room.

stucknoue · 04/05/2019 18:29

If they haven't moved then I suppose it is in their minds. My parents moved so it's guest bedrooms

Laiste · 04/05/2019 18:30

Yeah - the shrine thing's odd.

My DM did the opposite. The day i moved out aged 18 she got rid of my bed and turned the room into her own sewing/bits and bobs room Hmm Good job i never needed to come home!

RosaWaiting · 04/05/2019 18:30

no I don't

my late father apologised to me when he fell ill and had to use "your room" - I live nearby so no bother at all - but he still felt the need to apologise, poor soul.

that said, it's about half his stuff and half my ancient stuff, so they do use it freely for that. I can't imagine if it looked exactly like when I moved out!

LouLou789 · 04/05/2019 18:31

Since my adult sons have left home I’ve made a massive effort NOT to do this, and now try my best to call them “the back bedroom” and “the little bedroom” (the little one used to be known as “Bolshy’s Room” 🤣)

Pieceofpurplesky · 04/05/2019 18:31

I think it's weird that you think it's weird

EdWinchester · 04/05/2019 18:31

RaffertyFair

It's so weird! My perfumes are on the dressing table (can you imagine the smell?) and I have a sneaking suspicion there might be a 24 year old toothpaste in my bathroom.

Topseyt · 04/05/2019 18:32

Not at all odd! Why would you think that?

My parents do it and I left home around 30 years ago now. I do it too now that DD1 has left home. She is still my daughter. It is still her room and there for her when she comes back to visit. If she ever needs to move back for any reason then she will have that room again.
