Have come away for a little weekend away and completely forgot to pack my pyjamas, have remembered to pack everything else for everyone else. Its bloomin freezing, aibu to nip to a supermarket to buy some more even though I have plenty at home and really don't need another pair?

What important thing have you forgotten to pack when going away?

My worst was just going away overnight without my evening clothes and having to go to out for the evening in baggy black trousers and a hoody with a vest under.

LuckyLou7 · 06/05/2019 06:58

I went to Morocco and forgot my swimming cossie. The hotel sold bikinis, no one-piece suits, and the bikinis were VERY skimpy. But it had to be done. I just kept saying to myself the only secret to getting a 'bikini body' is physically putting your body in a bikini.

PillowTalker · 06/05/2019 07:42

No underwear for me or DC

Florencenotflo · 06/05/2019 08:00

Went to NY during Winter with DH before we were married. I packed my stuff, DH got stuck at work, asked if I could put all his stuff (he'd put it all out on his bed) into a case for him, he would be running quite late by the time he finished work. He travels in shorts because he finds planes very hot! I forgot his jeans he'd hung up next to the bed. He didn't fancy spending 3 days in New York in denim shorts in -14 degree snow 😂 so bought a pair of jeans!

Amfeelingfline · 06/05/2019 08:27

1st camping trip with new (second hand) tent in the new forest. OH forgot the inner tent 😂so we had to sleep with mattress on the grass. Thankfully it was only for a long weekend and it didn’t rain 😁

vampirethriller · 06/05/2019 10:16

Going to visit family last Xmas I had a carrier bag full of sterilised bottles for the baby and one full of rubbish to throw away as I left the house. Guess which one I threw away and which one travelled 500 miles with me.

kingsassassin · 06/05/2019 10:35

I left suitcases for me, DH, DD and DS in the hall. DD's didn't make it into the car so she had a surprise new wardrobe.

Keys for holiday cottage.

DH's medication...

BikeRunSki · 06/05/2019 10:46

Left all the Christmas presents at home when we went to my PIL for Christmas last year. Fortunately I had to stockings and their contents.

I know I'm a day late but your post really made me laugh @Iwishiweretaller! Grin

Mincingfuckdragon · 07/05/2019 02:24

I once forgot to pack any knickers for a weekend trip away with DH. I also had my period and wasn't feeling well, so DH offered to go out and buy me some new knickers. At the first store he went into he asked if they sold ladies underwear, and the shop assistant said "No, love, but try X shop up the street, they're very... um ... understanding". He was mortified!

Cantbelieveit101 · 07/05/2019 05:17

My DD plays rep netball and we went away for her states championship and I was so busy packing for everyone, I forgot my shoes!

Only had my slides on over socks for the trip.

such a stupid thing to forget.

Beldon · 07/05/2019 12:44

Bag of shoes. We had gone to attend a wedding and by the time we arrived (in rural location) didn’t have time to go shopping. So I would have had a pair of timberlands in with my short pretty dress and husband would have had old trainers with his suit. We ended up sending apologies and going to pub instead, there was a brilliant band on and we had a absolutely brilliant night. Dropped wedding present off next morning. It was a work colleague and we were invited to evening do so wouldn’t really have been missed, they were very nice about sudden sickness bug the day before 😉

BikeRunSki · 07/05/2019 14:39

DH - socks for a wedding. Lovely suit, nice nice. Red and white Spotty “King of the Mountains” cycling socks. His dad had s less prominent role and gave him his socks.

DottieLottie1 · 07/05/2019 17:26

Bought a beautiful dress online to take with me, it arrived and was too big. I missed the second delivery and had to make a special trip to the couriers depot to collect the day before we were going. Very inconvenient.

This was 2 months ago, yesterday I found the package in the back of my wardrobe. Not only did I forget to pack it, I didn't notice throughout the holiday or until now! Blush

Forgetting one family member's suitcase

This is why when flying with the family I always have an "emergency kit" containing a change of underwear, t-shirt and socks for each person which is packed in someone else's case and similar packed in the hand luggage. Also useful if the airline loses or mislays one of the cases.

zebrapig · 08/05/2019 11:03

Went camping 2 years ago, packed everything. Until we went to put the tent up and realised the pump was missing and we can't put the tent up without it as it's an air tent. Drove round the whole campsite and eventually managed to find someone who had one we could borrow 90 mins later just as we were thinking we'd have to go home.

JurassicGirl · 08/05/2019 11:28

Catalonia we do the same sort of thing with suitcases.

I get everyones piles of clothes & split each one into 3 or 4 piles depending on how many cases we're taking. So swimsuit/trunks, t-shirt, shorts, underwear etc into each suitcase for each person.

I think it takes me an extra hour at most & gives me piece of mind that we'd cope if a case went missing.

TooManyPaws · 08/05/2019 11:31

First time I flew I was 3 months old and Mum was taking me to meet her family in England. She had packed all my terry nappies (early 60s) under the mattress in my carry cot. The flight attendant suggested that Mum carry me in her arms due to the plane being crowded and the carry cot went into the hold.

She arrived in Birmingham with me and the carry cot arrived in Belfast. Grandma had to empty a drawer for me to sleep in and my uncle had to drive all over Birmingham on a bank holiday weekend to find an open chemist to get nappies.

MargotSimpson · 08/05/2019 11:35

The bottoms to my bikini.

SallyWD · 08/05/2019 11:38

On returning from Cuba my husband and I both put our house keys in the suitcase. We arrived back on Heathrow whilst our bags went to Mexico! We got back home on a very snowy day only to realise we couldn't get in the house!

underneaththeash · 08/05/2019 11:42

DH is no longer allowed to pack his own bags as he's dreadful at it, invariably he forgets something vital (shoes/swimming trunks/wash kit/underwear) and as he's 6'6" with size 13 feet, we can't easily just buy stuff at the nearest shop. He did once end up with the most revolting pair of Gucci loafers from a cruise ship ship once as they were the only thing we could find in he size.

He also forgot an entire suitcase....

OutInTheCountry · 08/05/2019 11:42

I once forgot shoes for a 2 week holiday in the sun. I was a teenager and arrived wearing trainers, I'd left my flip flops, nice flat sandals and nice healed sandals (all bought specially) on the bed at home. I had to buy some crappy espadrilles.

Yogagirl123 · 08/05/2019 11:52

I always forgot something I need, past forgotten items include my hair brush, sunglasses, make up etc.

DH always asks for a completely random item, that no one would ever take on holiday, happens every year without fail 😂

JurassicGirl · 08/05/2019 15:33

Peace not piece lol!

In my defence I've been awake most of the night with ds & dh being sick so I'm pretty tired!

BikeRunSki · 08/05/2019 21:12

DH used to forget his prescription sunglasses. Every holiday, about 5 holidays running. He’s bought clip on sunglasses in Las Vegas, Chamonix, Malaga, Edinburgh and other holiday destinations around the globe. He now has reactions lenses in his normal glasses.
