Have come away for a little weekend away and completely forgot to pack my pyjamas, have remembered to pack everything else for everyone else. Its bloomin freezing, aibu to nip to a supermarket to buy some more even though I have plenty at home and really don't need another pair?

What important thing have you forgotten to pack when going away?

Holiday to Turkey for a week i completely mucked up on what the weather would be like. A few months earlier we'd been to Egypt which was about a million degrees in the shade - so for Turkey i just slung in all the bikinis and cover ups from that holiday and a couple of vest dresses expecting to live like that again.

I shoved one pair of black leggings and one (horrible) fleece in the bottom of the case.

Well .... It was freezing and raining all week and I spent every fecking day in the above. There was no where to buy clothes and i had to wash those bloody black leggings in the bathroom sink every evening and dry them in the room and come down to breakfast in the same manky looking clothes every.single.day BlushBlushHmm

This was about 12 years ago and i have NEVER worn leggings since. Or a blasted fleece.

Travelling to France, 2 cars, 9 dc +2 adults.
Got to first services to fill up.
Hours away from home. Didn't have debit card with holiday money on-one of the dc confirmed purse was in mantlepiece... Only nearly empty account card on me by chance.

Rang ils who promised to withdraw cash regularly and top up other account. Years ago before phone banking etc.
Ils not very tech and drove 60 mile round trip every day to use the cash point outside my actual branch and then drive local to other bank to put the cash into the other account!
Should have taken it sign. Ds +friend were awful and got sent home on a plane after a few days!

Laiste · 04/05/2019 18:44

StabbyBitch Sorry that really made me laugh Grin

I can see me doing the same!

jaseyraex · 04/05/2019 18:45

I always forget sun cream despite buying it in abundance when it's on offer, so then have to buy more expensive stuff when we get to our destination. I've got bottles upon bottles of the stuff in the cupboard. The worst was forgetting the child's farm stuff for baby DS. Trying to find a similar alternative was a nightmare!

SabineUndine · 04/05/2019 18:45

Brush and comb. I didn't pack either. First morning in my gite in Provence (not posh, rabbit hutch style, in an outbuilding), 3 miles from the nearest shop, I had to do my hair with my toothbrush.

Toooldtobearsed2 · 04/05/2019 18:46

@Arpafeelie thats brilliant 🤣🤣🤣

UCOinanOCG · 04/05/2019 18:48

Holiday in Tenerife with a big group of friends and family. I forgot my swimsuit and had to make do with my friends mum's spare one until i could get to a shop. It was a delightful matronly floral number. Thankfully i got to a shop quickly!

Hiddenaspie1973 · 04/05/2019 18:49

Contact lens solution. Went to Turkey.
So lucky the hotel had it's own optical shop on site (miles away from anywhere).
My glasses are heavy so sea swimming would've been out for me.

stanski · 04/05/2019 18:50

The entire luggage.,, only realised I left it at home once at airport parking and by then was too late to go get it so left without and bought stuff there . Epic fail I know

intothedark · 04/05/2019 18:52

camping trip for the weekend and I managed to forget the food did remember the beer so not a total disaster

Marmite27 · 04/05/2019 18:53

My mum used to pack my dad’s stuff for holidays (the big man child). She once forgot to put his bag in the car. He now packs for himself so win/win.

He came home with a load of charity shop stuff Grin luckily they were only camping.

cheesenpickles · 04/05/2019 18:54

Allegedly, when I was about three my mum packed for her and myself to go away with my Godmother. When my mum opened her suitcase she found three of her right shoes, several Barbie dolls and a lot of colouring pencils. I'd gone and kindly repacked her bag for her when she wasn't looking. Blush

ChicCroissant · 04/05/2019 18:56

I have forgotten to take towels on a caravanning holiday.

I also didn't take a can opener on holiday once because my DH never eats anything out of a tin. He pointed to our dog, who I'd packed a supply of tinned food for.

StabbyBitch · 04/05/2019 18:56

@Laiste I was distraught. Ex kept telling me to cheer up & it didn't matter we were there now etc etc but DC 6 at the time who is being accessed for asd, adhd & cognitive delay & generalised anxiety disorder was on top form running around flapping and getting angry & anxious shouting "it is her fault" Grin

AllTheCakes · 04/05/2019 18:57

I got to my hotel after a very long flight and an epic coach transfer and tried to get in to my suitcase. The code wouldn’t work and I realised it was because I had picked up someone else’s identIcal case at baggage reclaim Blush. I had to get the rep to take the bag to it’s owner and collect mine from the airport the next day. I spent the first night with just the clothes I was standing in, with no toothbrush or toiletries.

I always double check the name tag on the case now!

Beachbodynowayready · 04/05/2019 19:01

More than once have forgotten wellies (camping usually in Scotland)
Whole family now have multiple pairs - trying to find any in August on a Sunday has been quite a challenge!!

BikeRunSki · 04/05/2019 19:11

I have also forgotten PJs. We were away for a week and I did buy new ones.

Mountain biking holiday - forgot to pack any of DD’s kit. Fortunately had packed for all weathers for DS, so cobbled her together some stuff that was a bit big.

Trip to different part of UK for DD and DH to enter a mountain bike race. Forgot dd’s helmet. Fortunately we realised 2 hours before her race started and rushed to Halfords to buy a new one.

Also forgot DS’s coat when visiting DM for a few days. Six hour drive. Stopped at the services halfway and realised we’d forgotten it. Delved into the Midlands to get a new one. It was November, needed to be done. Did exactly the same a few months later.

On our way back from holiday, DH once packed all his ski kit, but left all his casual clothes in a hotel room in Whistler, Canada. Fortunately we were stopping in Vancouver for a few days and they Fed Ex’ed them across.

BikeRunSki · 04/05/2019 19:13

Mountain biking holiday in Spain - bikes had to have pedals and chain removed to go on the flight. Bikes arrived, bag with pedals and chain etc didn’t.

TheInvisibleMrsCrane · 04/05/2019 19:13

Recently sent a child on a ski holiday with school without any salopettes!

VicSynix · 04/05/2019 19:13

Drove 4 hours to hotel for very posh wedding for OP's nephew. OP was one of the groomsmen and was wearing a beautifully fitted suit with a fancy dress shirt. Arrived shortly before wedding was due to start and realised that the fancy dress shirt was still on the ironing board, 4 hours away.

Hotel staff pointed him in the direction of the nearest Tescos and he stood at the back of the wedding photos.

nightnurse66 · 04/05/2019 19:14

Early morning flight but stupidly went out the night before for a few pre holiday drinks 🍹
Left early hours and in cab on way to airport and realised 5 mins from airport had left all evening clothes for me and husband were hanging perfectly ironed in the wardrobe.
Opps

Watto1 · 04/05/2019 19:15

Travelled up to MIL’s house in Yorkshire from Wales late on a Friday evening. Mil, dh and I were going to a family wedding the next day. As we unpacked, I realised that I had forgotten my nice shoes for the wedding. I only had the shoes on my feet- my trainers. Mil kindly offered me a pair of her brogues, but ‘unfortunately’ her feet were 3 sizes smaller than mine. I had to nip out to the 24 hour Tesco and get the only remotely suitable pair!

For a holiday in the sun, I packed a few light, thin, WHITE floaty tops for the evenings. I only packed black bras.

WeakAsIAm · 04/05/2019 19:15

Had a few. Camping and forgot my coat never good in UK

another camping and forgot all bedding, no pillows blankets or anything. Used coats to keep warm at night, luckily had remembered it this time.

An epic fail, forgot DS shirt for our wedding, exDH had to find somewhere to hire a suitable shirt in the right colour for a 1 yr old. Luckily I didn't know anything about it until later that night Confused

On a memorable holiday to France - DH does his own packing - forgot to pack his underwear- then left his shirts in the wardrobe at the gite when we left - suddenly remembered when we were about an hour into the journey home so we had to return to collect them. Still insists he doesn't need help.

AllTheCakes;
That's why we have luggage straps with our name woven into them!
