Have come away for a little weekend away and completely forgot to pack my pyjamas, have remembered to pack everything else for everyone else. Its bloomin freezing, aibu to nip to a supermarket to buy some more even though I have plenty at home and really don't need another pair?

What important thing have you forgotten to pack when going away?

Forgot my whole bag on a canal boating weekend. You can buy most things in Asda though. I had to soak my gas permeable contact lenses in saline though

Moved to Sydney for a year one July and when it was over 30 in London. Friends told me a winter coat or jumpers would be unnecessary. It was freezing cold 🥶 and raining until late October. Had to panic buy a wool coat and several jumpers for a huge price as all the shops were massively expensive and going into their Spring Summer Wear

While looking through boxes of old papers we found a 1970s postcard from grandma letting FIL know they had arrived safely on their two week trip to the Scottish Highlands, but, alas, all she had packed for grandad was a single pair of trousers...

PatriciaHolm · 05/05/2019 17:56

I managed to go away once with 3 kindles, 2 phones but no toothbrush or hairbrush....

Witchesandwizards · 05/05/2019 18:41

Bugaboo car seat adaptors on a 3 week trip to NZ with a 3 month old, making the frame entirely useless and cumbersome. Such a pain in the arse.

An entire suitcase full of Christmas presents and all DDs clothes on another 3 week NZ trip but luckily it was an early flight and DH managed to get a taxi home and back (LHR to central-ish London) and we made the flight. Taxi cost as much as the presents though.

Smugly took the Nespresso machine to Centerparcs to avoid 4 x £3 each time we needed caffeine. Only to put the milk and water compartments in the dishwasher before I packed...

Passtherioja · 05/05/2019 18:45

I worked on a sports shop many years ago and sold someone 2 left feet trainers -he only found when he arrived on his holiday!! Needless to say he didn't think it was funny!

Justanothernamechange2 · 05/05/2019 18:54

Pants/boxers always.

My SIL travelled 300miles up for a family wedding and forgot bottles for the baby. She cant breastfeed and spent that much time ensuring she'd packed formula, nappies, travel cot etc that she forgot bottles altogether. Well she had 1 that she had in the nappy bag.. but ended up buying a couple more while up here for 11 days.

fussychica · 05/05/2019 18:59

Always really careful but yesteday stupidly packed DHs personalised penknife which came from Zermat and which he's had 30 odd years in a carry on case rather than in the hold luggage and of course it was confiscated and destroyed. So upset. It is replaceable, thankfully but annoying nonetheless.

Some years ago we were flying back from Disney and missed a connecting flight in New York and had to wait 30 hours for a new flight. It had been 30 degrees in Florida and was snowing in New York.
Our cases had been transferred without us. We were wearing shorts and tee shirts so couldn't leave the hotel. The only item of "luggage" we had was a massive gorilla from the Tarzan film which had been DS's one stuffed toy of choice. Not much useGrin

Have forgotten to take a hairbrush at least twice. Managed to get a (free) comb from one hotel (was only there for the night)

Wantopinions · 05/05/2019 19:28

Forgot DD coat (December and cold)
Remembered in the roundabout near home but had no choice but to go on motorway for a junction. Turn back, get coat. Leaving home for a second time and she was sick 2 minutes from our house all over herself.
The journey took a whole 40 mins. Still 3 hours to go!

InvisibleToEveryone · 05/05/2019 19:44

Once forgot my glasses, drove in my contacts and had spare contacts, but after a couple of days I really wanted my glasses!

Also for got my handbag, with my purse in it.

Realised as we were pulling in to services 250 miles into a 350 mile drive......

Crappygilmore · 05/05/2019 19:46

Recently went away for a long weekend. Couldnt wait to go swimming on the first day id packed ds's trunks but not my swimdress. Luckily the complex sold costumes but being a large lady i was doubtful they had anything in my size. Thankfully they had ones up to a 20 and i squeezed into that. Butlins later this year im not going to make that mistake again. Am already drawing up lists and costums are underlined 3 times.

ThePants999 · 05/05/2019 19:49

Packed one pair of trousers. Ripped the crotch front to back on the first day. I'm too big to buy clothes on the high street.

xyzandabc · 05/05/2019 19:50

Got to Heathrow to realise we'd left a suitcase at home. It was mine.

We were en route to a fairly small town on Vancouver Island. Very limited stores. So I spent the 1st day of holiday going to Walmart and kitting myself out with shorts, t shirts and flip flops! Luckily I was wearing trainers, jeans and a jumper and it was quite hot so it was fine.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 05/05/2019 19:50

Packed shorts for Scout camp...

We had heavy rain, strong wind and HAIL. Wish I packed my thermals ... But it's May!

bibbitybobbityyhat · 05/05/2019 19:52

Packed for 4 people to go on holiday on the south coast of France in July. Forgot to pack any swimwear for me. Luckily there's a huge Decathlon in Montpellier!

Velvetmusical · 05/05/2019 19:53

Forgot my little girl's clothes bag last trip to Malta, only took her swimming suit coz it was packed in another bag!

bibbitybobbityyhat · 05/05/2019 19:54

Also, went on the annual extended family picnic (3 hours drive from home) and someone forgot to pack one of the picnic hampers in the back of the car. But that was h, not me.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 05/05/2019 19:56

Went on holiday to Brittany in June 2004 and made the mistake of packing summer clothes. It rained for a week! We bought the dc some supplementary warm French clothes in a small town and some socks etc for me. The socks are still alive!

Korvalscat · 05/05/2019 21:36

Not somethingforgotton but an unwanted extra - the food waste from the kitchen caddy - instead of putting it in the outside food waste bin, it was packed in the boot for the drive to Cornwall on a hot summer's day. The smell wasn't pleasant in the car to say the least.

We went to a family event (Dh's side) which involved a black tie dinner on Saturday night and a slightly less formal meal on Friday - there was a dress code included with the invite. I remembered my dress but forgot my dressy black trousers and only realised this as I was dressing for the evening as I had packed black jeans instead. I was the only one dressed in jeans and a nice top!

Ifonlyiweretaller · 05/05/2019 21:51

We decided to make my OHs white jeans ( in fairness it was the 1980s) into shorts so but them off. Unpacked our case to find we'd brought the cut off bits instead of the shorts

spursheaven · 05/05/2019 22:00

For some reason packed no knickers but tonnes of DP boxers

SansaryaAgain · 05/05/2019 22:00

Took DS to Australia to see my family when he was 8 months. Over halfway to Gatwick I realised I'd left the little suitcase with his clothes in our bedroom. Cue my mum having to make an emergency dash to Target before I landed!

tobee · 06/05/2019 01:49

Lots of things but the worst one was forgetting all the books and toys I'd packed for then 2 year old ds. We were staying in a tiny cramped place at the seaside in France and it rained the whole time, so lots of time to fill Instead of playing on the beach. The tiny house we stayed in had no toys and only one kids book that someone had left: Ladybird Dumbo. Ds knew it by heart by the end of the week.

I agree though you mostly only need a passport and wallet these days but I always worry I'll forget my tweezers! They are very useful! Grin

SgtFredColon · 06/05/2019 06:49

Not me but my cousin forgot to take a bag with her on her wedding day. Wedding reception was two hours from home. She woke up the morning after the wedding with nothing to wear except her wedding dress and underwear so she went knocking on all the female guest’s doors. She was wearing her friends knickers and trousers, my bra and my sister’s top for the day.
