DD 13 and errands

So this morning I asked my dd13 to nip to the shops for a few items, this shop is not far and the whole journey would be around 20 mins including time in the shop.

Since 10am I've seen every avoidance tactic and when I've just asked her she says "I don't want to go! It's annoying!" For context she's a good kid and does keep her from tidy, wash dishes etc .... But my response was "well in that case "I don't want to give you 30 pounds to go to shopping centre for lunch with friends on Saturday, because you know, it's annoying" So AIBU?

Why does it have to be 'lengthy'

"Please could you pop to the shop as it will take me half an hour to put your brother's shoes on" is hardly the complete works of Shakespeare. It's the kind of simple explanation most people would expect to give and receive wrt a 13 yr old. Just common courtesy.

But it’s not because of anyone’s shoes. It’s because we need milk.

BertrandRussell · 04/05/2019 18:53

“Can you pop to the shop for some milk because we had custard and we’ve run out

It’s a job that needs doing. Not my job i’m asking someone to do as a favour.

Agree, Bertrand. It is pretty self-explanatory.

Indeed.....

My life mantra is to accept and not question the small stuff while considering carefully the things that actually matter.

Explanation of the above seems to me at the level of the average 3 year old WHY....? - type query.

BertrandRussell · 04/05/2019 19:09

I think children should have proper hogs within their family anyway. I read The Continuum Concept at a very receptive stage of my first pregnancy.........

BertrandRussell · 04/05/2019 19:10

*jobs. Hogs would be fun, though......

SheSaidNoFuckThat · 04/05/2019 19:47

Surely you're asking someone to get milk because you need milk?!? The whys are not relevant. Not everything in the world needs questioning or explaining

A lot of these responses explain why we have so many entitled, petty, disagreeable and uptight people around.

So many youths get to uni not knowing how to use a washing machine or wash up. The people saying op has no right to ask or that op needs to explain the reasons on this thread, are doing their child and society a massive disservice.
