Niles with baby the bird stuck on his head. Niles setting fire to Frasier's apartment. Niles scoring from the halfway line. Kelsey Grammer's wonderful overacting. The lovely autumnal colours. The clever dialogue. The list goes on

Niles and Daphne were better than Ross and Rachel.

Aibu? No I'm not 😀

There's something in the Times today about how much teenagers like Friends. I certainly do notice teen girls I teach binge watch it. But neither of my DSs like it. But DS2 (just turned 15) loves Frasier and sits and watches episodes with DH during the hols. He also loves Fawlty Towers.
It's just a shame Kelsey Grammer loves Trump so.

Bluestitch · 04/05/2019 12:20

Kelsey Grammer's father was shot and killed when he was 13, his sister raped and murdered a few years later and then a few years after that his 2 half brothers drowned, one whilst trying to rescue the other. I'm amazed he's still standing let alone a successful actor.

RiversDisguise · 04/05/2019 12:22

Wonderful actor. He's entitled to his views.

Piggywaspushed · 04/05/2019 12:24

I did know he had an awful backstory. he is quite the survivor. I did read an interesting article about him a few week back in the ST.

MumOfOne92 · 04/05/2019 12:28

Never really watched Frasier, I love Friends!

ReadWriteDraw · 04/05/2019 12:29

If you like Frasier you MUST listen to ‘Meet David Sedaris’ on Radio 4. So clever.

PositiveVibez · 04/05/2019 12:33

Fraiser was amazing, but IMHO, Golden Girls was the best. I am watching reruns now and it is bloody hilarious.

prettybird · 04/05/2019 12:34

Ds (18) was until recently a great fan of Friends, which he had been watching on Amazon Prime.

Then, uninfluenced by his addicted parents Wink, he "discovered" Frasier and is now raving about how brilliant it is and how it is the "greatest sitcom of all time" Grin There's my boy Wink He keeps on trying to tell us about "great moments" as if we don't know them already Grin. He's still working his way through the series, so he's not come across all the funniest bits yet Smile

HeronLanyon · 04/05/2019 12:34

Actually this thread has reminded me of another aspect - knowing what an absolute Kelsey grammar is is really hard to ignore ! So glad I watched before I discovered. In a trivial note real housewives of Beverley hills also was an eye opener re his marriage to Camille - what a not that she’s much better. Really hard to imagine fraisier being part of all of that . Apols for the s.

HeronLanyon · 04/05/2019 12:35

Oh interesting. Mn edited out all of my asterisks. Suffice to say the repeated word was four letters stating with sh. All asterisks which seem to offend mn filters!

StillCoughingandLaughing · 04/05/2019 12:42

I doubt it. MN doesn’t filter ‘shit’ without asterisks.

prettybird · 04/05/2019 12:43

MN didn't edit out your asterisks - it's just that asterisk get used to "bold" words to is you put them into the middle of words, it tries to bold them (and fails because it likes spaces before the first one and after the second one, with the bit in the middle in bold). You are allowed to say Fuck, Shit or any other swear word you like. Grin

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 04/05/2019 12:44

You are allowed to swear on here. This is MN, not Nethuns.
Just say shit!

HeronLanyon · 04/05/2019 12:45

Understood. Think he is a shit and Camille.

Bluestitch · 04/05/2019 12:45

Kelsey Grammer has well documented addiction issues, undoubtedly as a result of the overwhelming trauma he's been through. I don't see why he's any worse than many other men in showbiz, even if he does have the audacity to be a Trump supporter.

HeronLanyon · 04/05/2019 12:47

Agreed blue. I think loads of men and some women in show biz are shits. Didn’t know he had been through trauma. Was aware of addiction issues.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 04/05/2019 12:47

What did people think of ‘Joey’ (the spin-off, not the character)? Was it always doomed simply because it wasn’t ‘Friends’?

For me the problem was always that Joey spent the last few weeks of ‘Friends’ in a state of terror because everything in his life was changing. Then we were supposed to buy him upping sticks to LA and barely mentioning his friends again.

Bluestitch · 04/05/2019 12:52

I thought the Joey spin off was really funny and well written, I had the same issue though that I couldn't connect this Joey to the Joey that would never have made that move away from his friends. It would probably have worked better as a new show with a different actor, no connection to Friends.

TheInvisibleMrsCrane · 04/05/2019 12:58

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess - I really hope that is true and they make a good job of it.

LucilleBluth · 04/05/2019 12:58

treenu the nextflix Arrested Development incarnation doesn't touch series 1 & 2, but they're still worth watching.

I have a weird thing for Jerry Seinfeld. I'm going to see him live in July. I'm not the biggest fan of the Seinfeld. It just a bit too American, if that makes sense. I adore Curb Your Enthusiasm though as I'm actually married to Larry David. I am Cheryl.

The American Office is also wonderful but nothing yet has beaten Frasier for me. I'm currently re watching it with my 15 year old DS, we are always wondering around the house singing the theme tune.

I adore Frasier Grin Friends left me cold.

duckme · 04/05/2019 13:09

I grew up with friends so it will always have a special place in my heart. I remember the first episode I ever watched (the one with the drain hair) Andrew and my friend we're just obsessed with the show, the lifestyle of the friends, everything. That said, it didn't age well. The last few seasons were awful in comparison to the first two. It's on constantly in our house because my daughter is always watching it. We converse mainly in friends or Disney song quotes.
I think at the age I am now, Frasier trumps friends. It's aged well and still makes me laugh.
I agree with pp, American Office is better than friends and as good, of not marginally better, than Frasier

duckme · 04/05/2019 13:09

Not sure who this Andrew is....

Livpool · 04/05/2019 13:13

I love Frasier! Niles is one of the best characters on television

PuppyMonkey · 04/05/2019 13:16

DD(aged 12) and I sit and watch Frasier every weekend (and Raymond if possible) - it’s our weekend morning treat. She adores both but is totally indifferent to Friends.

I adored Bibi the agent “don’t look in her eyes!” The scene where she’s trying to give up smoking and she describes why she wants a cigarette. It’s pure poetry!

And “there’s a back aching for the lash!”Grin

I’m always saying Put Your Brother on!!!
