To sneak a McDonald's into the cinema

Would it be wrong to sneak a big mac and fries into the cinema? I usually just take a bag of sweets and bottle of water. I refuse to pay the cinema prices for food. The film I want to see tomorrow is 3 hours long, plus 30 minutes or so of adverts. It starts at 11.30am. Do you take your own food into the cinema?

Yeah decided against it. Wasn't thinking properly and have realised it would be selfish. I'll take in some sweets, not individually wrapped ones, probably liquorice all sorts.

Oh, well, you've listened to MN. I'd have gone for it, but then, when I visit my sister in the US we see films in bar/movie theatres. The Globe Theatre allows you to bring in food and drink, just no glass, but don't tell MN!

HBStowe · 03/05/2019 21:49

This would be way too rude. It would stink out the entire cinema. Have a late breakfast before you go in.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 03/05/2019 21:50

Mn is not a good benchmark of what is olfactory etiquette,it really isn’t
Folk claiming to faint at whiff of comfort, cough at febreeze and gag at plug ins
On mn folk claim they can smell a glade plugin a mile away, itch at perfume
It’s all very overstated and a bit oh I get headache/hives/nausea with anything chemical

slappinthebass · 03/05/2019 21:50

I agree with the Brendasumbrella totally actually. Rustling individual sweet wrappers annoy me far far more than hot food smells.

OnlyLittleMissOrganised · 03/05/2019 21:50

I've done this a few times. It's just like taking a hot dog or nachos from the stands in the cinema

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 03/05/2019 21:51

Yup I’ve taken in happy meals for the kids,Greggs, chips curry sauce

Crafting1Queen · 03/05/2019 21:52

Iv took McDonald’s in to a cinema more then once and Iv know others who have done it to.

No ones ever said anything."

That's because CF's are known, by the very nature of their CF'ery behaviour & the we don't give a shit about/have any consideration for anyone else but ourselves attitude, that it would probably be a waste of time to point out that they stinky, rustly food they are noshing into in a closed environment, is actually downright offensive smelling to others around you, who have paid good money to see a film with an expectation of being able to do so with having to endure the various --stench aromas of hot food brought in from outside. The hotdogs sold in the cinema are rancid enough smelling, without then competing with the smells of others choice of hot food.

One of these days someone will just actually frebreze you. No words, no warning - just schoosh, then we'll see how you like it?

So, yes OP YWBU to take/eat a McDonalds in the cinema.

SihtricsHorseWitnere · 03/05/2019 21:52

I remember one memorable MN thread regarding long train journeys, think Plymouth to Glasgow, and being told you should only have a 'polite, furtive sandwich'. I've done that route, taking 12 hours with flood delays and a good many people were pissed beyond belief upon arrival not giving a fig for 'polite' sandwiches.

MN, you can't even make it up!

happymummy12345 · 03/05/2019 21:53

I wouldn't

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 03/05/2019 21:53

Yes as suggested on mn why can’t people eat odourless food

SihtricsHorseWitnere · 03/05/2019 21:53

I've done this a few times. It's just like taking a hot dog or nachos from the stands in the cinema

Then why do they sell it in there?

Notnownotneverever · 03/05/2019 21:54

YABU - it's really unpleasant for those in the cinema with you.
I saw Endgame last week and the cinema smelt the worst it has in a while, I suspect due to the back to back showings filling the auditorium with sweaty people and food.

If you are that desperate for food, take a non smelly sandwich or something and eat it in the trailers and enjoy your normal sweets, etc.

Chocolate50 · 03/05/2019 21:54

Ha! I'll raise you - we once took a whole takeaway curry into the cinema - we were really hungry but did get some bad looks

Banterlope · 03/05/2019 21:56

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away (my 20s, in Greenwich, drunk in the 90s) I took my cat to a midnight showing of The Empire Strikes Back in a Tescos carrier bag (he didn't like to be left alone, made sense at the time). Although he dozed on my lap for most of it my cat-pal Oscar didn't like the fight scenes & the pwow-pwow noises or the end credits, so might have slipped off while I was snoring when I was distracted causing much conniptions amongst the audience. We had to go for a kebab afterwards

everythingisginandroses · 03/05/2019 21:56

It really pongs. Inconsiderate and awful

SihtricsHorseWitnere · 03/05/2019 21:58

One of these days someone will just actually frebreze you. No words, no warning - just schoosh, then we'll see how you like it?

Of course they won't! Such people would never buy Fabreeze, that is akin to buzzing anti-freeze and they can smell it when their neighbour 4 doors down uses it and if pollutes them so much they have to close their windows.

Eliza9919 · 03/05/2019 22:00

I've done it before. I think it was to see hellboy. I came out the pub, got a mcds then decided to go in the cinema.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 03/05/2019 22:03

One of these days someone will just actually frebreze you. No words, no warning - just schoosh, then we'll see how you like it?
What’s that actually mean? A random stranger will spray autumn fields at the public in a built up area
No chance as mn folk claim to smell febreeze, glade, perfume, conditioner, plug ins, fast food and fabric softener within a 45m radius. And immediately gag and faint

paddlingwhenIshouldbeworking · 03/05/2019 22:03

McDonalds disgusting if not eaten immediately and it hardly takes more than 5 minutes to eat. Just organise yourself rather than wait to eat a soggy burger or cold soggy and limp fries.

HundredYearOldMan · 03/05/2019 22:05

YANBU

Take your McD’s and enjoy

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 03/05/2019 22:05

As a studen reheated McDonald’s next day and it was lush

HeresMe · 03/05/2019 22:07

If you take Macdonald's in you are scum no it's no buts,I'd fail to see why not eat in the takeaway.

returnofthecat · 03/05/2019 22:07

I wouldn't recommend it, but... Cineworld sell hot dogs and nachos to eat inside the screening room. Does a McDonalds smell any worse?

ALemonyPea · 03/05/2019 22:07

Quinoa salad Hmm

My local Odeon has a Greggs shop right near it. Always tempted to take a pasty in, but would probably end up covered in crumbs.
