I am unreasonable with what I drink...

For the past few weeks, I have been pretty un-well, always have a very sore headache, around the eye and the nose and this is also impacted with my endometriosis.

My husband tells me that I am not helping myself by drinking so much sprite, Fanta or coke-zero per day. I used to drink Coke Zero but switched to sprite because of the no caffeine but my husband thinks I should not drink any of these drinks unless I am out for dinner. I need to be honest and say I consume around 2 litres per day of sprite, very little water apart from at night and I do not drink alcohol.

Could my husband have a point?

He says I should drink only water but that seems crazy to me as I always have a sprite with my dinner or lunch. What do you all drink?

I drink
Endless cups of tea!
Squash or a can of something zero in the evening (or when at home), mostly squash
Water at work

bumtickler · 03/05/2019 13:19

thats a lot of sprite!!

your dh does have a point, maybe compromise and half your daily intake?

blackteasplease · 03/05/2019 13:20

Mostly water and tea.

I can't think all that fizzy drink is good for you!

Sexnotgender · 03/05/2019 13:20

That’s a lot of fizzy crap!

2 litres is bonkers quite frankly.

kaytee87 · 03/05/2019 13:21

I drink 2 cups of tea and about 1.5litres of plain water. Fizzy juice only I'd out for dinner. Alcohol once or twice a month.
I think your DH has a point too.

Fruityfruitcake · 03/05/2019 13:21

Jeez that's a lot! Could you try substituting for flavoured water and then work your way to water with lemon and then onto water.

BendingSpoons · 03/05/2019 13:22

It's quite a lot of sugar. Could you try fizzy water with some lime cordial or fresh lemon/lime for some of the time?

MrsMozartMkII · 03/05/2019 13:22

Step away from the fizzy drinks lass.

kaytee87 · 03/05/2019 13:22

Oh I occasionally have a can of Diet Coke at lunchtime. Rarely finish it

ArkAtEe · 03/05/2019 13:23

Yeh it sounds like a lot to me, maybe you could buy cans to try and limit yourself to say two cans a day? One with lunch, one with tea. I know with a 2 litre bottle it's easier just to have another glass.

VioletCharlotte · 03/05/2019 13:23

That's way too much fizz. See if you can cut down gradually and replace every other glass of Sprite with water.

IsYourGoogleBroken · 03/05/2019 13:23

I consume around 2 litres per day of sprite

This is not good for you - it is 40 teas poons of sugar. Jesus wept

Lala503 · 03/05/2019 13:24

It's not great as it contains sugar and a lot of artificial sweetener. Not saying that's harmful per se but so much per day?!
Can you try diluted orange juice to start with, if you're not keen on plain water?

ArkAtEe · 03/05/2019 13:24

Also yes as PPs said the fizzy flavoured waters are quite good! I buy the lemon and lime / apple and elderflower supermarket own

StCharlotte · 03/05/2019 13:24

Well I don't know about your current symptoms or your endometriosis but your DH is certainly right that fizzy drinks have absolutely no place in any kind of healthy diet.

MargotSimpson · 03/05/2019 13:24

Your DH has a point. I’m a Diet Coke fiend but even I admit 2L a day is bonkers. I try not to have more than 2 cans a day. Plus I drink at least a litre of water on top of that, ideally 2. If I don’t drink enough water, I get horrendous headaches. You should definitely cut down on the fizzy and increase your water intake. Maybe just have Sprite with meals?

Blondequeenie · 03/05/2019 13:24

I think you are all correct in your responses, I just wanted to see if others drink like me. I notice you all drink tea but I hate anything hot.

In the past I switched to fruit juice like apple juice but my old PT said that Coke Zero was better for weight loss so I switched back.

I used to drink the fizzy water with lime cordial @BendingSpoons like years ago, I will give that a try again!

Mumminmum · 03/05/2019 13:25

It is also quite a lot of acid.

Damntheman · 03/05/2019 13:26

I drink mostly water and tea as well. The fizzy drinks are almost certainly the cause of your headaches, you poor thing! Try substituting fizzy water mixed with cordial/squash to get the same taste feel before trying to move over to something more water based.

lazylinguist · 03/05/2019 13:26

That's really bad for you and is probably contributing to poor health. I drink water, tea, decaf coffee (both without sugar) and occasional beer or wine. I literally never drink sweet fizzy drinks as I don't like them and find they leave a horrible aftertaste, quite apart from the fact they are so unhealthy.

Damntheman · 03/05/2019 13:27

Have you tried iced tea? It's best with roobois tea and you can put sweeteners in it to up the sweet taste. You might like that better :) But tea isn't really a necessity if you're not into it.

AnastasiaaBeaverhousen · 03/05/2019 13:27

That is crazy amounts of sugar. I imagine that you will end up with T2 diabetes if you carry on. Switch to water.

lazylinguist · 03/05/2019 13:27

Surely lime cordial is nearly as bad?

Damntheman · 03/05/2019 13:29

I wouldn't have thought cordial was as bad given that one dilutes that with water.

Felicia4 · 03/05/2019 13:29

If you suffer from cluster headaches or migraines, sugar and artificial sweeteners will make them worse. I suffer from migraines and I drink water, sparkling water with a bit of cordial if I'm craving a fizzy drink ( but I don't have this often), green tea, mint tea, rooibos tea and coffee. I do drink alcohol so I do have fizzy drinks as mixers, but the amount doesn't affect me as much as drinking them daily.
