I am unreasonable with what I drink...

For the past few weeks, I have been pretty un-well, always have a very sore headache, around the eye and the nose and this is also impacted with my endometriosis.

My husband tells me that I am not helping myself by drinking so much sprite, Fanta or coke-zero per day. I used to drink Coke Zero but switched to sprite because of the no caffeine but my husband thinks I should not drink any of these drinks unless I am out for dinner. I need to be honest and say I consume around 2 litres per day of sprite, very little water apart from at night and I do not drink alcohol.

Could my husband have a point?

He says I should drink only water but that seems crazy to me as I always have a sprite with my dinner or lunch. What do you all drink?

I literally never drink sweet fizzy drinks

Ditto.

OP have you tried sugar free cordial and fizzy water? I love elderflower cordial and tonic water if I want something other than water.

ShabbyAbby · 03/05/2019 13:30

I don't understand why people think squash, cordial, or flavoured water Is that much better? Juice can give you diabetes too.

Trying to increase water and reduce fizzy, yes, but don't just substitute it

Thesearmsofmine · 03/05/2019 13:31

That sounds like loads of fizzy to me.

I drink 2-3 of cups of tea a day(usually one is camomile or fruity tea), maybe a small glass of fruit juice or a smoothie and the rest f the time water.

PippilottaLongstocking · 03/05/2019 13:32

If I’m craving something fizzy I go for kombucha (fizzy fermented tea) you can get loads of flavours and it’s full of probiotics. I only want fizzy drinks a couple of times a week usually though

ArkAtEe · 03/05/2019 13:35

I think PPs mainly mean to start off by substituting to then gradually try to cut back to them then being the odd treat when you go out.

Speaking from experience as someone who didn't like water, I find once you start gradually drinking water more, say every other drink, the more you start to get used to drinking it and then start to opt for water instead of fizzy.

Blondequeenie · 03/05/2019 13:36

Thank you for all your lovely responses.

I did not even realise how bad I was as I always been like this!!

My husband also said that switching to cordial drinks are just as bad. I am going to try water for the moment, currently sitting in the library with a big bottle of Evian! #tryingtodobetter

If you want a healthy body, respect your health by nourishing it properly. You can't be surprised with ill health when you're drinking two litres of sprite a day. You're poisoning yourself. Cut it out, replace with water and your symptoms will disappear within weeks.

Damntheman · 03/05/2019 13:39

Good luck Queenie! I hope it goes well for you and the headaches reduce :)

Magmatic80 · 03/05/2019 13:40

The fizzy part doesn’t help either. But fizzy water is at least better than fizzy pop

Blondequeenie · 03/05/2019 13:41

Can I ask another question?

Do you think that this drinking of sprite etc is impacting my weight?

I have been working out, trying to eat healthy but I am over weight and I am not sure if cutting out all of these drinks will have an impact!

I do find that when I get my headaches I don't have the energy to do anything, my studies or go to the gym!

I allow myself 1x 500ml bottle of fizzy daily max as a treat. Often Sprite or Fanta, used to be full fat coke but I have given that up in pregnancy to avoid caffeine (I have dodgy blood pressure and the caffeine gives me palpitations).

The rest of the time I drink water or very dilute cordial (sugar free). Plus one serving of fruit juice as part of my 5/day. I don't do hot drinks.

2l of fizzy regardless of what it is is terrible for you and will really make you ill in the long term.

Saffy101 · 03/05/2019 13:45

Your headaches could be cluster headaches, with pain around the eye and nose. Have a look here. ouchuk.org/

Megan2018 · 03/05/2019 13:46

Cordial is ok in moderation - but not as a main drink.

I can't drink only water all day and night - it is too boring. Other people drink tea and coffee, I don't so my occasional cordial and fizzy is my equivalent to that. But plain water makes up the bulk of my intake - a good 2l daily.

Your Sprite drinking will have undoubtedly contributed to weight issues.

Fundays12 · 03/05/2019 13:47

Definitely not good for you I would cut it right down and drink water.

FooFighter99 · 03/05/2019 13:48

I drink pepsi max all day every day.

i know i need to drink water instead but i'm just a fan of pepsi max

dreaming174 · 03/05/2019 13:49

I have soda water with orange cordial and ice. It tastes like fanta.

lazylinguist · 03/05/2019 13:49

Yes of course it's impacting your weight - unless you are drinking entirely sugar-free it is very high calorie. Even if you are drinking sugar-free, I believe there's now evidence that sweeteners trigger your insulin response like sugar does, so it can still affect your weight.

Toooldtocareanymore · 03/05/2019 13:49

is it full sugar sprite? if it is then yes will add a lot of empty calories. But aside form all those comments have you tried taking anything for headache beyond usual paracetamol etc as it sounds like a sinus issue to me.

Ohyesiam · 03/05/2019 13:49

Do you like fizzy wAter?

musicmaiden · 03/05/2019 13:51

There's about 280 calories in 2L of Sprite so it's about the equivalent of a chocolate bar a day if you're wondering about your weight. It's also about 66g of sugar.

Definitely swap most of it out for water.

Poppyinafieldofdreams · 03/05/2019 13:51

I drink a lot of low cal tonic water on its own.

Tesco low calorie Indian tonic water with lemon.

Could you try that.

Margot33 · 03/05/2019 13:52

I suffered with migraines until I stopped the tea/coffee/pop. Now I only drink water, sometimes a fruit tea. I have not had one single migraine since. Try it and see.

OwlBeThere · 03/05/2019 13:53

My family like to comment on how much diet coke i drink....all the while drinking endless cups of tea and coffee.

if your DH is without vice then fine, but i suspect hes not.

mycatisblack · 03/05/2019 13:54

I do t drink anything containing artificial sweeteners as they give me migraines so yes, I think your husband could be correct.
