AIBU to ask my husband to pick up some bits on the way home?

I realised I'd run out of Sanitary towels...and shampoo...and bubble bath...and we're out of toilet roll too. And husband is out tonight and I could do with a glass of wine but don't have any. Oh and we're pretty much out of bread too.

DH said I'm taking the proverbial. He asked me if I wanted anything so I told him......AIBU???

The are you taking the proverbial was when i asked for shampoo and bath bubbles not the San pro. He's no issues buying that lol. It was just a very busy/tiring afternoon with the scamps and I was multitasking when I wrote post so it's a bit...odd!!! I know what I mean anyway!

Mine got the super ones once on the basis that 'super' means good so they must be better value for money

The only way I could see the taking the piss comment making sense if this was over several texts, so if the first one said sanitary towels, shampoo and bubble bath (though that should have been enough to clue him into the wine without you asking) then a few minutes later he gets one adding the loo roll, then another one with the wine, then a follow up with the bread - so in the way you've written in the post, by the last text I'd be thinking 'oh come on, stop it' in a way that I wouldn't with one text asking for all of them.

This is partly because the local shop doesn't have reception so if I didn't get the last text till after I'd come out I'd be fed up

Doesn't excuse him not getting the pads though

Hollanda · 02/05/2019 19:36

And God knows why not loo roll. 😬

I actually don't understand how you can be out of loo roll shampoo, bread, and any other basics.

Have you had a run on these things? As adults do you not both check your stocks and buy more before you run out?

AnnaMagnani · 02/05/2019 19:38

How is 7 items the whole shop?

DH often asks me to get some bits on the way home as we live in the middle of nowhere and all he can buy in walking distance is stuff from the garden centre.

And if my Dad could buy Tampax circa 1981, your DH can buy pads.

BertrandRussell · 02/05/2019 19:39

And they say there’s no need for feminism any more......

averylongtimeago · 02/05/2019 19:40

No you are not "taking the piss" by asking an adult to call in at the shops on the way home.

I assume we are talking about an adult here? Not a stroppy teen?

Bluntness100 · 02/05/2019 19:42

Does one of you have responsibility for the shopping?

With two kids in the house, and none of the basics. Then something is going wrong someplace.

raffle · 02/05/2019 19:42

So he was actually in a shop, and deliberately only bought 4 of the 6 items you requested?

I’m confused

Hollanda · 02/05/2019 19:45

We weren't out of bread this morning. I had a slice of toast when I got home in the 15 minutes before school run. Then DS wanTed cheese and ham toasties for tea so I did that for both. That took us down to way less than half a loaf and I take sandwiches to work for lunch.

Milk...I have no clue how 4pts are used in a house of 4. Maybe it's my tea habit. I drink lots of tea.

Loo roll...no idea where he put the 6 pack we only got delivered last week. Unless he's had a huge episode of the shits or he's eating it I have no clue.

San pro...shop had cheap ones only and he didn't know whether to get them.I'm not fussed for future reference.

Wine...necessary after today.

Bubble bath...not so much. Shampoo...will make do with baby shampoo.

I have never needed to ask my DP to get me sanitary towels because i never run out of them, wether he would get them for me i don't know

DontVisitMe · 02/05/2019 19:51

I have never needed to ask my DP to get me sanitary towels because i never run out of them

Bully for you. My DH gets them because I'm disabled and I can easily go through a pack a day with endo.

Aprillygirl · 02/05/2019 19:52

Not very organised are you? A 6 pack of loo roll isn't that much to get through in a week. You could keep a loaf in the freezer and milk too.

Sofagirl · 02/05/2019 19:53

Damn right

I’m always sending out my bloke out on errands

Why not?

It’s what they’re there for

Hollanda · 02/05/2019 19:54

Aprilly im terribly disorganised!

OP posts:
Hollanda · 02/05/2019 19:56

It's been that sort of a day!!!!

dementedpixie · 02/05/2019 19:58

I wouldn't have space for bread and milk in my freezer. I buy a big pack of toilet rolls though (Asda quilted 16 for £5.50). Dh does the main shop on a Saturday and will buy sanitary products if I ask for them

YouBumder · 02/05/2019 20:03

II actually don't understand how you can be out of loo roll shampoo, bread, and any other basics.

Have you had a run on these things? As adults do you not both check your stocks and buy more before you run out*

This really. It’s quite a lot of basics to run out of all at once.

As for sanpro I use a cup now but my husband has bought it no problem in the past. And my dear old dad bought me maternity pads after I had my first baby and didn’t realise just how many I would get through!

ControversialFerret · 02/05/2019 20:06

I've never understood why it's only possible to keep loo roll, food essentials and other household stuff in stock, if you have a vagina.

Clearly if you possess a penis then you must be far too busy and important to think about trifling things like that.

Why is it always the woman's responsibility to think about fucking bog roll?

Langrish · 02/05/2019 20:07

He asked, you told him. What’s the issue?

happyhillock · 02/05/2019 20:07

@DontVisitMe i never run out of them because i have heavy periods and need to make sure i alway's have them,
It's also called being organised.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 02/05/2019 20:10

Did you forget all that from your weekly shopping (either or both of you). My DH would say I was taking the piss as well, not because of the contents of the shop but the amount of it. When either of us pop in to the shop it is literally just a flying visit either because we have run out of something essential or we fancied something particular. Neither of us would be impressed with a shopping list in response to the question.

pinkylander · 02/05/2019 20:11

If he offered ........

SunshineCake · 02/05/2019 20:14

I call bollocks that he thought no pads were better than the wrong ones. Cheap ones work fine when the choice is nothing but pants.
