Not AIBU, but for traffic

Second time this year I have a virus. This horrible phlegmy cough and cold. I'm hacking like I smoke 40 a day.

I was ill for ages a couple of months ago and now this!

I'm feeling sorry for myself

My sister has the exact same thing. She has been back and forth to GP and had bloods/ x ray but nothing has shown up. She lives in London..... I did suggest poor air quality but she doesnt think so

VeepVeep · 02/05/2019 05:00

What does your sister think it is? How old is she, if you don't mind me asking?

It's so depleting

Yes, I've had it for over week now. It's exhausting! My back and chest are so sore from coughing so much.

Myworstnightmare123 · 02/05/2019 05:09

She is 49. She had been ill for a while (very tired and lethargic) but seemed to feel better but has this awful cough. She has no idea what it could be. She is going to go back and see another GP as her one isnt that great TBH

NoYo · 02/05/2019 05:19

Dd was home from school for Easter hols and she had it, so she's had it for about 3 weeks. GP wouldn't give AB's, just told her to have lots of fluid. I've told her to see the GP at school to see if there's anything that can be done.
Now DH has it. He's in agony every time he coughs, and he's coughing up lots of phlegm (gross.)

Hopefully I don't get it! It's awful.

Mary1935 · 02/05/2019 05:47

Yes I’m rough too. No temperature but disgusting flem. Have covered myself with vicks and do a vicks inhalation later.
It’s just been a week though. I’m waking earlier and am just watching The Adulterer on More 4 a Walter presents.
I will have a shower and get my son to school and then nap hopefully.

Auramigraine · 02/05/2019 05:52

I had this...... the cough lasted over three weeks and at the end my right rib and side were so sore from the constant coughing. I still have a slight cough but nowhere near as bad 5 weeks on

fairislecable · 02/05/2019 05:59

On Easter Sunday it felt like my trachea was on fire, then Monday it moved up to Larynx ( no runny nose no cold) after a few days it completely changed to the most disgusting phlegm.

The coughing and exhaustion are just starting to go away and I think the night fevers are getting rid of it.

I did not have the flu jab and DH did - he is firmly convinced this is the flu

FurrySlipperBoots · 02/05/2019 06:03

I've got a version of it, or something similar, but it's not too bad. A couple of days of painful sore throat but it's developed into a chesty cough now, not too bad. I'm more concerned about the stomach ache I've had for 3 months because although the doctor is insisting it's a virus that seems like a bloody long time to be be ill to me! Has anyone got that one?

bellinisurge · 02/05/2019 06:05

Mine's just about worn off after weeks.

princesstinnedpeach · 02/05/2019 06:07

I've had/got this too and I'm pregnant so no cold relief medicine or decongestants etc Sad the worst thing for me was the splitting headache the cough brought on - thankfully gone now but I thought it would be a relief if my head just gave in and exploded.

malificent7 · 02/05/2019 06:09

Yes...am on week 5 now. Gp did nothing. Makes me feel old.

Lwmommy · 02/05/2019 06:24

It might be hayfever from tree pollen, try taking an anti histamine and see if it helpa

Happycow · 02/05/2019 06:27

Yup - had it about 3 weeks, thought it had almost gone over easter.... now its back !

Apparently its hayfever-related- lots more people have hayfever this year (tree pollen) presenting as cough rather than the usual itchy eyes etc but im not convinced.

Clearyweary · 02/05/2019 06:36

Yes, my dd has spent 2 days in hospital with similar earlier this week. On day 5 of it now and her temp is still in the 40’s. Horrible bug.

Xiaoxiong · 02/05/2019 06:46

Yes I have this! Caught it over the Easter weekend, was no use to anyone sneezing and ill from Tues-Fri and still have a lingering hacking cough and have almost lost my voice completely. I didn't realise it was going round.

strawberrypenguin · 02/05/2019 07:18

Yes! Had it for a couple of weeks now. It is easing slowly but it's still hanging around. Suspect hay fever might be playing a part.

TeenTitans · 02/05/2019 07:21

I've had this and it was pneumonia and pleurisy. It broke my rib. Antibiotics are what finally cleared it up.

TeenTitans · 02/05/2019 07:23

For the person who said it's the flu, my dc had it and ended up in hospital and it was parainfluenza initially. What's happening is it's viral but it's possible to get bacteria secondary to a virus which is what happened to me.

THEsonofaBITCH · 02/05/2019 07:26

Yup, 5 weeks and just now starting to feel like its getting better but definitely not gone yet! Viral pneumonia (anti biotics aren't going to help me!), lots of fluids and rest (if you can get it!). Good luck, sympathies!

BarrenFieldofFucks · 02/05/2019 07:28

My kids have both had The Cough.

PencilsInSpace · 02/05/2019 07:30

Yes, me. I think it's a virus. I'm on day 3 of copious snot, phlegmy cough, temperature and headache. I hope mine doesn't go on as long as some of you have had it.

stucknoue · 02/05/2019 07:31

Yep, just woke up feeling icky, was hacking all yesterday evening. Great, so busy today

CKWattisthemanager · 02/05/2019 07:31

I have it. I had what I considered to be flu about six weeks ago. I have never got this ill so soon after being as ill as that IYSWIM? I feel utterly miserable today.

Bunbunbunny · 02/05/2019 07:38

Yep had it over Easter the bastard, was so looking forward to my holiday then had to have antibiotics Sad

It's been doing the rounds in my office, wiped me out I slept so much with it.
