I can assure you all I have no affiliation to this product or any other I would delete the thread if I could I was genuinely surprised that something like this existed (sheltered life maybe) but as I said up thread I had only ever heard of AF lager and wine. The whole price thing is weird to me I would pay 26 quid for "real" gin so why not for AF If I like it

Bloody hell, some vicious comments on here just because OP wanted to recommend a drink! Did you all suspect her of being a plant by Seedlip?

I have always loved the straight-talking nature of Mumsnet but this is ridiculous.

jarhead123 · 01/05/2019 21:50

Expensive for alcohol free!

MustardScreams · 01/05/2019 21:50

£26 for flavoured water! What is the world coming to? Just shove some lime and juniper berries in some tonic water and save yourself a fortune.

Girlking · 01/05/2019 21:51

A woman was ripped to shreds on here last night as she drank nearly a bottle of wine a night and similar is happening tonight because a woman posts about an alcohol free drink she likes 🤷‍♀️

Greeborising · 01/05/2019 21:51

Can’t believe why so many people pounced on op for this 🤷🏻‍♀️

Maybe this is a modern thing. When pregnant I was just happy with a sparkling water, lemonade or coke. It wouldn’t have even occurred to me to order an alcohol free version of anything I used to drink as I was just happy to be pregnant, I never felt I was missing a taste of my usual tipple.

I’m guessing it’s a modern marketing mans dream to persuade pregnant women to now order an alcohol free version of their usual tipple so that they don’t forget what they like and to remind them that, once baby has been born, they can get back to their usual alcoholic drink.

AntheaTrifid · 01/05/2019 21:58

How much?!

pictish · 01/05/2019 22:00

Why the very fuck would you drink something that tastes like gin when it’s not gin. Drink something nice!

Peridot1 · 01/05/2019 22:00

I like it too. Have tried various low alcohol and alcohol free wines and they are all vile to me. But I like Seedlip with tonic and ice and lemon. Not sickly sweet and feels like a nice drink.

And no I would not pay £26 for a bottle of 7Up. As I wouldn’t be diluting that with tonic. Yes it’s expnsive but you can’t compare it to 7Up.

IHopeYouUnderstandWeArePuppets · 01/05/2019 22:01

When I was pregnant I went to pizza express for a meal with my sister and I ordered a seed lip. Waiter brought it over and I sniffed it and was amazed - couldn’t believe how gin like it smelled! I was so chuffed as I’d been missing my gin. I proclaimed my delight to DSis, who whipped it off me, tasted it and told me that it was actual gin. She was indeed correct, the waiter apologised and brought me a genuine seedlip, which could only ever be a disappointment after sniffing a real gin. Sad

Aberforthsgoat · 01/05/2019 22:03

@pictish maybe because people are pregnant? or can't drink alcohol? or are trying to cut down?
Loads of reasons tbh, no need to be so judgy.
Do you go round asking vegetarians why they eat veggie burgers and sausages and insisting they just eat the real thing instead?

Scardanelli · 01/05/2019 22:03

Glad you enjoyed it, OP. I thought it tasted of mouthwash. Confused

ThanksItHasPockets · 01/05/2019 22:05

Puppets that is hilarious.

AhhhHereItGoes · 01/05/2019 22:07

I loved sparkling elderflower when pregnant.
Yum.

So many MNetters not taught to show disagreement without being snide.

Mummy0ftwo12 · 01/05/2019 22:08

Is this a stealth advertising thread?

pictish · 01/05/2019 22:08

Gin is horrible though? I mean I know we’ve all been saturated with it’s wonderousness for donkeys now...but let’s not forget, it’s actually minging.

Provincialbelle · 01/05/2019 22:09

It seems to me that quite a few mumsnetters here could use a drink. Doubtless the poor OP among them, except she’s pregnant so it’s a mocktail for her I guess ...

Justajot · 01/05/2019 22:09

I think it's shite and given that £7.50 of the cost of a bottle of gin is tax seedlip won't be taxed, it's also a massive rip off.

Sportsnight · 01/05/2019 22:10

Yes M&S’s one is delicious shins. I got some for my SIL and she made me double check it wasn’t secretly booze.

Houseonahill · 01/05/2019 22:10

I see mumsnet is in full bitch mode tonight Hmm

musicposy · 01/05/2019 22:14

I can't drink alcohol, ever again, sadly. So OP, this is a really useful thread.

I occasionally have Monin gin syrup - it's passable with tonic, though you wouldn't confuse it for the real thing. It's interesting reading on here about alternatives.

Thank you, OP, and sorry you're getting a roasting. I get fed up with the "just drink actual gin, why wouldn't you drink alcohol, why pay all that money for squash" judgy brigade. It can be bloody depressing never getting to drink what others do, not even having a glass of wine now and then, and anything that makes it even slightly better is worth it in my book. It shouldn't take too much imagination for people to understand that not everyone can have alcohol.

pictish · 01/05/2019 22:15

Totally don’t get alcohol free alcohol. I only drink alcohol because I want the effect. Alcohol tastes rubbish...why would you want the taste without the effect? Have something that tastes pleasant.

pictish · 01/05/2019 22:16

Should add...I’m not a big drinker. Never did take to it.
