Hollywood Wax 38 weeks?

Natasha4767 · 01/05/2019 12:39

Am I nuts to have a Hollywood was at 38 weeks I've had them lots of times but not during pregnancy.

I ended up getting my other half to shave me about two weeks ago and I just want to feel nice and clean (personal preference) I'm having a csection so it's not about lots of people seeing my lady area. It's just for me. Plus this is my 4th baby and first section so I have no worried about doctors seeing down their 😂😂

Yes you are nuts. Just wait until your baby is born.

jcq17 · 01/05/2019 12:42

Iv had them throughout my pregnancy so far and I'm now 28 weeks but it is definitely more painful! I'm booked in up for 38 weeks but will see how I feel closer to lol.

Sinead100 · 01/05/2019 12:42

Do whatever makes you feel comfortable. Total bush or all off - who really cares? Good luck Flowers

PicsInRed · 01/05/2019 12:43

What an appalling time to be a woman.
Just looking at some of the threads just now, I used to think Roman women had it bad, SMH.
Fuck's sake.

TheFastandCurious · 01/05/2019 12:46

Go for it but be prepared for it to hurt a bit more.

I remember the discomfort and frustration of not being able to see or position myself properly to epilate properly at the end of my pregnancy. I’m too much of a wimp to wax but if you can do it, go for it I say!

PazRaz10 · 01/05/2019 12:46

It will hurt more than every time you've had it done before - just a warning!

earringlady · 01/05/2019 12:46

I've had it done towards the end with both pregnancies and it was fine.
I get them done regularly though so didn't notice a huge pain increase. Goodluck with your birth x

eddiemairswife · 01/05/2019 12:47

Why would you feel dirty if unwaxed? Don't you wash?

Redken24 · 01/05/2019 12:48

Had it at 39/5 - as long as hot wax it will be fine..

bluebluezoo · 01/05/2019 12:51

You’re nuts :)

Word of warning though with a c-section shaving is no longer the standard of care- it hasn’t been for at least 15 years but some hospitals are slow to change their practices. It increases the likelihood of wound infection as the skin is abraded and has tiny cuts and nicks where bacteria hide out.

It may feel “cleaner”, but it isn’t. Intact skin is. You should also be asked to shower with hibiscrub both the evening before and morning of your section. That won’t be pleasant if your skin is irritated.

DoneLikeAKipper · 01/05/2019 12:52

If it’s what you want, go for it. Just in future, maybe ask this somewhere like Style and Beauty rather than AIBU. There’s about to be 100 replies mentioning ‘porn culture’, ‘I pity women’ and the worst ‘do you want to look prepubescent?’. Because no woman truly chooses to do this for ‘personal preferences’.

Nicknacky · 01/05/2019 12:55

Pics Whats your issue with a woman wanting to wax?!

loveonthewall · 01/05/2019 12:57

I had a c section and the anaesthetist had to shave my bikini line. I don't know what a Hollywood wax takes off but bear that in mind.

loveonthewall · 01/05/2019 12:59

To bluezoo's point, my c section was 16 years ago

DreamingofSunshine · 01/05/2019 13:01

I had a planned c section at 38+6 and my Hollywood at 38 weeks. The midwife said it was fine if I wanted to, but said to do it a few days before so that any redness would have calmed down. I'm happy I did it, if you want to and your midwife is happy for you to I can't see the problem.

Contraceptionismyfriend · 01/05/2019 13:02

I'm 30 weeks and looking into having my first wax Grin
After the effort it was to shave the other week I can't go back down there.

Natasha4767 · 01/05/2019 13:03

I just like it like that, it's as normal to me as shaving my legs 🙈 an in regards to porn culture I've never watched porn so I'm not sure what they look like 🙈

If anything I'd be more embarrassed about the fact my outer labia is so large the gp offered me a referral to have it chopped off but I'm so happy in my body I don't want it doing!

Nicknacky, I doubt men bother waxing for their wedding night, let alone when they're about to go through a major life and medical event.

Read alongside some of the other threads from the past few days (rape stats, rape victims' phones taken by police, women "trapping" "defenceless" men into fatherhood, women should "share" parental leave, women shouldn't be "rewarded" for being sham in divorce etc etc) this is just dreadfully sad. And this is on mumsnet. Imagine what the rest of the internet looks like on any given day.

If it wasn't considered desirable by society, not a single sausage would do it. Most of us don't shave our heads, as that hair is deemed "acceptable". No one considers it unclean, they bathe. Women remove pubic hair because of the societal embarrassment and perceived uncleanness of it, which oddly enough rarely applies in the same way to men. I just find it dreadfully, dreadfully sad that women now are considering this at full term of pregnancy.

It's a choice, sure, but the expectation which informs that choice has gone too far.

bluebluezoo · 01/05/2019 13:05

@loveonthewall - mine were 12 and 10 years ago. I was specifically asked not to shave. Big London teaching hospital that was/is right on top of all the current practices though. I also took part in an MRSA study and one for Gp B strep, lucky as dc was GBS+ and the lab picked up on it immediately.

Nicknacky · 01/05/2019 13:15

pics The op wanting a wax which she says herself her normal routine should not be getting confused with threads about rape.

Women can actually do things to their own body without it being for men, you know. They are allowed to prefer being hairless. I waxed mine just before my section.

DoneLikeAKipper · 01/05/2019 13:18

which oddly enough rarely applies in the same way to men.

What about the many men that shave their faces every day in order to look acceptably ‘clean and tidy’? Even with a bit of a beard, if it gets beyond a certain length, men are considered anything from unkempt to ‘looking like a hobo/Father Christmas/some other ridiculous comparison’. Don’t get started on moustaches or not sorting their ‘mutton chops’ out.

Goodenough06 · 01/05/2019 13:20

Go for it if it's what you want! I know what you mean about it feeling more normal and like yourself. When you're pregnant and you can't even see down there it's really hard!
If it's too painful and you aren't coping you can always ask the waxed to stop.

JaneEyre07 · 01/05/2019 13:21

I'm old school.

DH uses the garden clippers if he feels it's getting too much to fight through.

I have no desire to emulate a porn star in any way shape or form Grin

bluebluezoo · 01/05/2019 13:21

If you had been advised not to, like I was, how would you have felt? Would you still have waxed?

Buster72 · 01/05/2019 13:35

Many men do "manscape" these days, but it depends on personal preference, or the preference of their partners.
I have known woman to say that oral sex is much more preferable without picking pubes out of their teeth
