Natasha4767 · 01/05/2019 12:39

Am I nuts to have a Hollywood was at 38 weeks I've had them lots of times but not during pregnancy.

I ended up getting my other half to shave me about two weeks ago and I just want to feel nice and clean (personal preference) I'm having a csection so it's not about lots of people seeing my lady area. It's just for me. Plus this is my 4th baby and first section so I have no worried about doctors seeing down their 😂😂

OP posts:

yeah loads of men wax before a prosate exam Hmm

HelenaDove · 03/05/2019 19:14

*prostate

Passthecherrycoke · 03/05/2019 19:25

Lots of bullshit on this thread. How would you get an infection from waxing? And of course hospitals don’t care whether you wax or not- how would the deal with the many unplanned c sections if this made any difference whatsoever?

I had a wax before my last baby was born, im undecided this time as I have some varicose veins on my labia and not sure I want them involved with waxing 🙈 they may hurt a little more than usual but I wouldn’t worry too much about that when childbirth is imminent 🤣

WaterOffaDucksCrack · 03/05/2019 20:30

yeah loads of men wax before a prosate exam where did that come from 😂 they just do it as part of their routine!

callmeadoctor · 03/05/2019 20:45

I am a trained Beauty Therapist, when I trained it was a contraindication to wax when a woman was in late pregnancy (IHBC). Wonder when it changed?

Passthecherrycoke · 03/05/2019 21:02

When I was first pregnant 5 years ago you couldnt get a massage unless the therapist had a bed with a built in bump hole. This time I’ve been to a number where they do your back whilst you sit up facing away from them then have your arms legs and bump done laying in your back so things are moving on. There is no evidence any of those treatments posed a risk anyway

Justonemorepancake · 03/05/2019 21:04

I did at 37 weeks. Baby was born 48 hours later! Was glad I did as I needed labia stitches and they would have shaved me, which I find unbearably itchy, plus it made cleaning lochia much easier. Not for vanity, just find it easier to feel clean.

Montsti · 03/05/2019 21:07

I had a Hollywood wax at 38 weeks with all 4 of my kids pre c sections...

flamingoflamangos · 03/05/2019 21:08

I had a Hollywood 2 days before DD was born (39 weeks). I was so pleased I did - much easier with stitches and midwife actually mentioned in passing that it was easier to stitch me up.

I don’t know why waxing causes such outrage - I feel better with a Hollywood. Absolutely nothing to do with being ‘presentable’ for my husband. I don’t give a shit if he sees me with winter unshaven legs, the works. I have a wax for me. You feel shit after labour, what with the constant bleeding and fluid loss and a Hollywood just made me feel a million times better.

crispysausagerolls · 03/05/2019 21:45

God yes - much easier with stitches and lochia mess!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 03/05/2019 21:49

It may feel “cleaner”, but it isn’t. Intact skin is. You should also be asked to shower with hibiscrub both the evening before and morning of your section. That won’t be pleasant if your skin is irritated for this reason I wouldn't,greater risk of infection.

EdWinchester · 03/05/2019 21:49

I did at 39 weeks.

I'd had a fanny full of stitches the first time and I wanted to be hair free.

As it happened, I had no stitches but it felt much cleaner post birth.

My preference is to be hair-free, anyway.

steff13 · 03/05/2019 21:51

How's it going, Natasha4767? I hope you and the baby are ok.

Tinyteatime · 03/05/2019 21:55

I’m sure I’ve read this exact thread before!? Anyway, just sniggering at the fact that I can’t tell if there’s a typo in here or not

Don't care about TMI, people blaming porn culture need to think about how gross that can feel to come people.

Justonemorepancake · 03/05/2019 21:57

My skin was intact after a wax, just hairless. Obviously a shit therapist might result in broken skin! But a good therapist is less likely to break the skin than a midwife doing a dry shave with a bic. Plus my skin was pretty fucking broken after giving birth anyway!

Donnadon346 · 03/05/2019 22:15

I had them all through my pregnancy as well as a few days before my due date and actually think it was less painful than when I wasn't pregnant. Go for it Smile

bluebluezoo · 03/05/2019 22:16

My skin was intact after a wax, just hairless

On a microscopic level the skin will be abraded and will have tiny tears and surface irritation. Invisible to the naked eye but the perfect place for bacteria to breed.

Add to that hospitals are a massive source of bacteria, particularly antibiotic resistant ones, plus post birth your immune system might not be in top shape, and you have an increased chance of contracting an infection.

There are also studies that removing hair changes the skin biome, increasing UTI incidence and the like.

adiposegirl2 · 03/05/2019 22:23

I had a Brazilian wax at 39 +4. It was more painful- l literally had sweaty palms... I went into labour that evening... Not sure if their was any correlation?

Micah · 03/05/2019 22:30

am a trained Beauty Therapist, when I trained it was a contraindication to wax when a woman was in late pregnancy (IHBC). Wonder when it changed?

Call me a cynic but it probably changed when hairless became the norm and women would rather be bare and accept the risks, and the increase in business as women chose to wax in preparation for birth overcame any professional reservations...

Studentnurse1981 · 03/05/2019 22:36

Go for it OP . I much prefer it all off and my dh prefers me hairy. How fucking ridiculous people comparing it to taoe threads and saying we do it because of pressure. It's my fanny and il shave if I want too !

MrsBAF · 03/05/2019 22:37

I did it at 36+ weeks... twice. The hard part for me was lying on my back but it was done quickly

Studentnurse1981 · 03/05/2019 22:39

Rape*

englishdictionary · 03/05/2019 22:39

It's a bit cancel the chequey here isn't it? Grin

OP's waters broke yesterday lunchtime!

I hope all is well OP Thanks

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 03/05/2019 22:44

It made the DM Hmm

WestBerlin · 03/05/2019 22:47

Some prefer hairless, some don’t. It’s personal choice. My husband and I both wax/shave 🤷🏼‍♀️
