AIBU to not get why everyone seems to hate lanyards?

Sort of re the pockets thread - I keep my work pass round my neck on a lanyard I was given with the pass for the purpose. This means I always have it so can get through the building easily, never lose it, don't have to carry it in a bag (or pocket!) etc.

I am however in a minority. Everyone else at work including my dh seems to go to great lengths to hide them - putting them in wallets, keeping them in bags, leavim them on desks etc. On the odd occasion I've caught someone wearing one, they've turned the card round in the little bracket do you can't see the photo. I mean your face is right there at the top of your neck, what do you think you are hiding??

Why do folk hate on the lanyard??

Yes I have also tried to use my bank card to get into the office doors too. Grin

Work pass doesn't work on my front door. Nor does the remote car key.

I bought myself a gorgeous new cat lanyard from cath kidston today. Will be wearing it with pride on Tuesday!

I hate the things, I feel like an animal with a name tag on and like a right twat in it.
I don’t even like the word lanyard.
I admit I have issues though Grin

We don't have to wear ours in the building that's we are based in. In fact it is discouraged as we try to create a reasonably informal setting for our young people. Also if we get attacked by them it is something to grab hold of.
However on our initial visits meeting a family, going into school or having meetings at County Hall I have to wear it. Also it has a fob on to allow me access into the buildings so I'm not hanging around waiting to be escorted around.

Ours don’t say where we work either. photo, name and a number, plus colour coded corners (permanent/temporary/contractor)

Polarbearflavour · 04/05/2019 10:00

I worked somewhere that didn’t have our names on our passes just our numbers. That was a weird place.

my photo swings round, however i have a double lanyard with a photo on either side, and this thread has reminded me, i must put it in the wash,

Polarbearflavour · 04/05/2019 10:03

Some people do wear them to show off. And I don’t have an inferiority complex as I too have the “honour” and “privilege” of working in office jobs!

There really is a general feeling that office jobs are “better” than retail.

EleanorReally · 04/05/2019 10:04

the popularity of them is crazy, sixth formers, for instance, anyone and everyone seems to wear them,
i only put mine on when entering the building, and remove it on leaving.

I'm not getting this in respect of Lanyards.
Some retail where lanyards and some offices don't.
I'm neither and sometimes have to wear one.
