Pockets in dresses. Sorry, but I really don't see what all the hype is about

Everyone on instagram seems to be obsessed with any garment that has pockets. I've tried to see the benefit, I really have. I've even started to post about dresses I own that have pockets, and wax lyrical about how much I love them, but I'm just not feeling it. I'd much rather carry a bag. What is the big deal with pockets??

I never carry a bag Grin

Pockets in dresses and skirts is amazing!

Luckily if you don’t like pockets, you don’t have to get garments with them in since that is the default!

Another pocket fan here 🖐️

(... They're good for if you need to alleviate yourself from a fanny wedgie) 👀

What I actually need is a belt with loads of string/chains hanging from it so that I can attach all my bits and pieces to it.

Sounds like you need a carpenters belt that wishes it was a skater kid's belt Grin

@showmethekittens Grin this is how o used to smuggle contraband booze into gigs where the doormen searched your bags - the perfunctory touching up never extended into the depths of my cleavage!

My dear departed mother who was a bit of a legend and amply furnished with bosom could fit a large hip flask under each boob on such occasions. Salty, but cheaper than the house bar and no need to queue! 😂 I miss her.

HebeMumsnet ah that's where I'm going wrong - I just use my shirt as a makeshift hammock of crap thingy Grin

Pockets in worn dresses are for my work phone, probably a pack of mini tissues and my staff pass. Carry my notepad with pen attached and/or laptop to meetings in the building. Everything else can stay at my desk in my bag.

I love pockets! I just put my hands in them and sort of swish them from side to side!

StCharlotte · 30/04/2019 15:32

I like a pocket but not in addition to, not instead of a handbag.

OP you are clearly not a smoker Wink

StCharlotte · 30/04/2019 15:33
  • in addition to not "not" in addition to

They're fabulous for keeping lipsticks in so they're always on hand if you need to reapply

HebeMumsnet · 30/04/2019 15:54

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter Ah... you're an old-school declutterer.

You're very welcome!

Sounds like a chatelaine @LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chatelaine_(chain)

GarthFunkel · 04/05/2019 10:02

Or a utility belt? I'm sure Screwfix sells them Grin

Gilead · 04/05/2019 10:28

I have spare bits of material so that I can add pockets to clothes that need them.

NorthernKnickers · 04/05/2019 10:43

Primary teachers love dresses with pockets 😊. We keep rubbers, pencil sharpeners, green/pink highlighter pens, a biro and 'emergency tissues' in them...when you spend 6 hours a day walking round your classroom, leaning over little heads, rubbing out 'b' not 'd' a hundred times, highlighting 'wow words' and catching the runny nose 'just in time', pockets are the invention of the gods 😉

I don't IG any of that though 🤷‍♀️😂
