Hello everyone, here's thread 2.

I'd be very grateful if someone could do a clicky link to the last one. Still can't figure it out.

Thanks!

Lady Diana

www.harpersbazaar.com/celebrity/latest/g22549179/princess-diana-life-facts/?slide=22

She coined the term "cleavage bags."

With cameras following her everywhere, Diana had to be careful of what was photographed. She used her small clutch bags as a guard for her cleavage, to make sure cameras didn't catch a glimpse down her top. Most photos of Diana getting out of a car to enter an event show her using her clutch as a shield. Designer Anya Hindmarch, who worked with Diana often, said, "we used to laugh when we designed what she called her 'cleavage bags,' little satin clutches which she would cover her cleavage with when she stepped out of cars."

ByeClaire · 01/05/2019 17:49

Jeez I’d need more than a little satin clutch to cover my cleavage. A beach bag, perhaps.

Polarbearflavour · 01/05/2019 17:53

A relative of mine was a lady in waiting to the Queen. She was told by the Queen that we (the plebs) have no idea who is really running the country and there are things that we will never know. Shock

AppleKatie · 01/05/2019 18:07

I think that’s fairly obvious isn’t it? Would we want to know everything?

MissEliza · 01/05/2019 18:09

There are a lot of lunatics supporting MM on Twitter. It's quite funny.
I agree Oprah's comment is hilarious. Most Americans have no idea how the RF works. You think the Crown might have educated them a bit.

FannyWork · 01/05/2019 18:10

I thought you were Diana's Spencer ancestor @FannyWork smile

I may be or I may just be a spectacularly shameless CamGirl. Who knows?

Two medicine balls in a surgical sling.

ByeClaire · 01/05/2019 18:15

Yup. I’m starting to seriously consider a breast reduction actually.

Ktay · 01/05/2019 18:23

This is the part of the extended press statement/briefing note that mentions plans for announcing when Meghan went into labour

I think it was meant to be understood as they are dark, shadowy forces at work. The government do not run the UK. The royal family has very little power.

Lady Diana

www.harpersbazaar.com/celebrity/latest/g22549179/princess-diana-life-facts/?slide=24

She had an affair with her bodyguard.

Barry Mannakee was with the police in the Royal Protection Squad before becoming Diana's bodyguard in 1985. After a year on her service, Mannakee was transferred off of royal duties because of an "unusually close relationship between the pair."

In a tape from a therapy session, Diana said that she was "deeply in love" and was "quite happy to give all this up and to just go off and live with him." While she does not directly name Mannakee, it is widely believed she walk talking about to him. Mannakee died in a motorcycle crash in 1987, and there are many theories that his death was not an accident.

In one of the Diana documentaries where she’s talking she said that Prince Charles told her of Manakee’s death in the car on the way to an event and she had to face the photographers just a few minutes after finding out.

Er, wow. Setting up two press enclosures open 15 hours a day from the onset of (announced) labour until 3 days after birth does not smack of wanting privacy.

FannyWork · 01/05/2019 18:37

That was Cannes 1987, just before this pic was taken.

noodlenosefraggle · 01/05/2019 18:40

That does sound a bit weird. I always thought the debacle of hundreds of people waiting outside a hospital waiting for a woman to give birth distasteful so was glad they didn't want to do it, but then what's the point of telling people when she's gone into labour? Just 'here's our baby X, born this morning' with no news beforehand would have been fine!

lyralalala · 01/05/2019 18:41

Er, wow. Setting up two press enclosures open 15 hours a day from the onset of (announced) labour until 3 days after birth does not smack of wanting privacy.

It’s just the birth details they were keeping private. The main bulk of the statement was badly worded and then misinterpreted by the press. The follow up was basically ignored by the media which allowed the “they’re keeping it secret!” thing to build.

lyralalala · 01/05/2019 18:42

I think the main point of the press pen is so that they get to see the Queen/William/Kate and co visiting like they did when people visited Kensington and could be seen coming and going.

justasking111 · 01/05/2019 18:44

Supposing you had a c section 3 days would not see me walking around

NaturalBornWoman · 01/05/2019 19:33

Do you honestly think that them wanting privacy will prevent the world's press from broadcasting? Of course there have to be arrangements to corral the press, it would be fucking chaos otherwise.

FannyWork · 01/05/2019 19:58

There’s never been anything like this before for higher profile births. Besides, she’s supposed to be giving birth at home which is in a secure area. They can’t even hang about the perimeter because it’s all private land and they can be moved on. Nobody can get near them. There was a small press enclosure outside the Lindo Wing for Kate precisely because it is a public area and so they were entitled to be there. But two staffed and manned press areas in London and Windsor? That’s huge overkill.

MagicKingdomDizzy · 01/05/2019 19:59

Polarbearflavour

The royal family has very little power.

I would go as far to say that the Royal Family have no power.

There truly is no point in a monarchy in this country anymore than to bring in tourism and act as PR with other countries.

They have to be politically neutral and express no personal opinions.

I don't see the monarchy lasting a great deal longer.

That's so unusually cruel. I can imagine Charles doing that and taking pleasure in it too Sad
